Liv: Ok, last sub-topic! Kinda use this one to bring all your thoughts together since it's already sort of been answered.
Liv: What are some of the best (in your opinion) non-traditional RPGs? What about them stands out?
Jeremy: For me, FFX, the DDS games, Breath of Fire V...
Jesus: How is FFX non-traditional?
Matt: Bah, I'd say FFX is definitely traditional.
Matt: Yeah.
Jeremy: Well, no fully explorable world map, more linear…
Steve: Yes.
Michael: I think Persona 2 was an excellent example, with the whole Persona and Rumor systems.
Jeremy: Battle systems for most of them, the Scenario Overlay for BoFV…
Rebecca: Earthbound's the one game that stands out in my mind because of its sheer uniqueness.
Derek: Radiata was the most enjoyable one I played recently.
Jesus: Well, Paper Mario works as a great non-traditional RPG.
Michael: And the battle system for P2 allowed for both quick fights and strategic fights.
Adam: Are we including Strategy RPGs? ‘Cuz I'd say the original Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my all-time favorites.
Jeremy: And the original Super Mario RPG.
Derek: The fact that everyone has their own life was cool.
Matt: BoFV, definitely. But there are so many different types of atypical RPGs.
Jesus: Adam: Yeah, we can include them.
Liv: Yeah, strategy RPGs would be pretty non-traditional.
Matt: Earthbound is a favourite of mine, but what about Zelda games?
Jesus: And hard to do.
Liv: Zelda! I love Zelda!
Steve: FFT was good, except I will murder the localization team when I find out where all of them live.
Michael: Even though I’ve never played it, I guess Disgaea could be included.
Steve: Pssh.
Liv: That would definitely be non-traditional.
Jesus: Zelda isn't an RPG, it's action/adventure.
Steve: Zelda's not even an RPG.
Matt: Yeah, but we've had this debate before.
Steve: Indeed.
Liv: You could consider it one.
Steve: Okay.
Jeremy: Millions of times.
Matt: You can argue it forever.
Adam: Let's argue about it.
Matt: But we cover it at this site, after all :P
Steve: I'm going with Mario RPG.
Steve: For the win.
Jesus: Well, that's because Nintendo tried to say it was an RPG since the N64 had none.
Michael: Zelda 2 for the NES was definitely more RPG-ish.
Liv: I agree with Steve.
Jesus: Michael: True.
Liv: Mario RPG all the way!
Jeremy: Indeed.
Adam: No, the N64 had Quest 64 which was :cough: awesome :cough:
Matt: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
Matt: Oh god, Adam.
Matt: x_x
Matt: Hahaha.
Jesus: Adam: You liked that game? O_O
Matt: Sigh.
Liv: I'm currently playing through Superstar Saga.
Adam: HAHAHA, no, but I finished it.
Matt: Isn't it awesome, Liv?
Matt: And me too, Adam.
Adam: Years ago. I don't know why.
Steve: I like it.
Jesus: Liv - that's an awesome game.
Matt: I was desperate.
Rebecca: I'm thinking of picking that up just for kicks.
Liv: It *is* pretty much amazing.
Steve: Actually, still playing it… and dying.
Matt: It's so incredibly funny.
Michael: It’s sure fun.
Steve: But lovable!
Jeremy: I heard Aidyn Chronicles was *cough* a masterpiece *cough* as well. ^^
Jesus: Of course, Sword of Mana would have been a good example, but only for one thing…
Rebecca: What one thing?
Jesus: Jeremy: Hehe
Adam: You know what game I really liked? Legend of Mana. It was just plain fun.
Jesus: Yeah, Sword of Mana had braindead ally AI, which made it bad.
Jesus: Adam: Meh, not a big fan.
Jeremy: A step down from Secret of Mana's AI.
Michael: I know. They’d just run around doing jack.
Rebecca: Legend of Mana is still on my backlog.
Adam: I enjoyed it because I liked all the little side-stories.
Rebecca: As is Sword of Mana.
Steve: Opposed to Xenosaga.
Rebecca: As for my favorite series currently, Harvest Moon, it's more of a sim than an RPG.
Liv: Ok... er... let's try to, uh, wrap things up.
Jesus: Hm, speaking of nontraditional RPGs, I'm reminded of Legend of Legaia.
Liv: Any last comments?
Jeremy: Well, it does have a fully explorable world map, so I dunno...
Adam: Umm, last comments... Final Fantasy Mystic Quest for life!
Matt: Hahahahaha.
Jesus: Adam: That was traditional.
Michael: Cheese does not go well with vinegar up your nose.
Jesus: Braindead easy, but traditional.
Steve: I love Matt more than Derek.
Matt: !
Rebecca: I'm looking forward to Contact. If that game says that it does NOT contain spikey-haired amnesiac heroes on the back of the box...
Liv: Concluding comments?
Adam: It was different though, at the time.
Rebecca: It's probably going to be good.
Adam: 'Entry level' they called it.
Matt: Heh, I'm with you there, Rebecca!
Michael: Two thumbs up for evil empires.
Jesus: Adam: A beginner RPG, but a traditional RPG nonetheless.
Adam: Ok.
Matt: I think that without traditional RPGs, we'd be missing out on a huge part of a great genre.
Jesus: Much like Ghost Lion.
Matt: And blahdiblahdiblah.
Jeremy: And many RPGs would be carbon copies of each other.
Michael: I will make flowers all over the world.
Liv: Please... please... can we start to conclude this? =)
Steve: For me?
Steve: Awww, you shouldn't have.
Steve: I did.
Jesus: Hehe, sure. How do we end it?
Jeremy: There will be plenty of non-traditional RPGs in the
future, of course.
* Michael commits suicide to stop his fat mouth.
Steve: I love Matt more than Derek, that's all we need.
Jesus: Yeah, non-traditional RPGs are going to be more common.
Steve: It's a wrap.
Rebecca: Contact!
Matt: There are many ways that RPGs can be untraditional, and I'm sure that there will be many more as developers try to become more creative in the future.
Jesus: Unfortunately, there's going to also be more games with RPG elements tacked on.
Liv: And... we're.... DONE!!!
Rebecca: Huzzah!
