Liv: Ok - let's move back on to RPG questions! ^^
Matt: Yes, agreed :) * Jesus sulks.
Jesus: Okay... :)
Jerry: What? RPG? Is that a gun?
Josh: Hehe.
Jesus: Hehe.
Matt: So, Final Fantasy III was largely great, but had a couple of
flaws.
* Jerry saw no flaws save for the demo-poweredness.
Matt: Haha.
Jesus: Speaking of which, I hear Mass Effect is going to rock pretty hard.
Matt: Speaking of which... FFVII: DoC.
Kyle: Mass Effect?
Kyle: Ohh! Did anyone play that??
Jesus: That's an RPG now?
Jerry: Mass Effect...missed that one.
Kyle: They tweaked it for us and took out the online play.
Matt: Me too, sorry.
Jesus: Mass Effect is a lot of places' 360 game of show.
Kyle: Ah.
Matt: Though it- yeah, it made an impression.
Jesus: They're not going to have it online for America?
Jesus: Bleh, probably just as well, PS2 online is a disaster.
Kyle: Nope.
Kyle: They didn't think it'd be popular enough.
Kyle: A friend of mine said it was crappy anyways.
Jerry: Of course. -_-;
Donovan: ...I don't like the look of it, really. Mass Effect looks too...I don't know...war-like?
Jesus: As opposed to being high fantasy game #99999999999999999999999999?
Donovan: Point taken.
Kyle: Instead [of being online]... they threw in 40 extra missions and tweaked the physics.
Kyle: Vincent jumps higher and when aiming, he walks faster.
Jesus: More likely they didn't wanna' get burned like they did with the PS2 HDD.
Kyle: Yeah, that was a reason why the hard drives sold crappily in the US.
Jerry: ...er...hrm, I thought you were talking about Mass Effect.
Jerry: Oops.
Jesus: That's what I mean.
Kyle: No I'm talking about Dirge of Cerberus.
Matt: Everyone I talked to that played FFVII: DoC thought that it was massively underwhelming.
Jesus: Mass Effect is a different setting than every other RPG seems to take.
Jerry: Good! We need more of that.
Kyle: I just want the story.
Jesus: I hate it when people say that.
Kyle: Lol, well...
Kyle: If the gameplay sucks, the story is all that's left.
Jesus: "I just want the story." Then why not wait for those VCDs that'll eventually come to eBay anyway?
Matt: Vigivalgus had a bit of fun with it, I think.
* Jerry shoots himself in the head.
Jerry: >_>;
Gabriel: How about Persona 3 over yonder?
Matt: It looked interesting... I got demo-ed it by the representative.
Donovan: I read all the impressions of DoC, and it seemed like control was a huge issue.
Matt: Yeah, a big issue, Donovan.
Matt: Apparently you can't run while shooting, and targetting was less than simple. @_@
Jesus: What!?
Jerry: Heh, "Suicide was the theme of E3 this year... Persona, MGS4....Sony..."
Donovan: That's gonna be rough.
Kyle: Actually, they fixed it - you walk faster.
Jesus: You've been able to do that since friggin' DOOM!
Jerry: You can't run - you just shuffle.
* Matt shrugs.
Jesus: That is stupid.
Jerry: Yeah, it is.
Matt: Yeah, it doesn't look like my cup of tea.
Jerry: I was going to play it, but when I saw Vigi play it, I just thought... "forget this crap."
Kyle: Well, apparently, it's faster than in the Japanese version.
Jesus: Memo to Squaresoft - Pick up HL2, play it, learn from it.
Kyle: Wada announced that the FFVII Compilation was going to run through 2 decades.
Matt: The 90s and the 00s?
Jesus: ... Talk about whoring out.
Kyle: "He believes the franchise will be alive for two decades, meaning ten more years."
Kyle: Ten more years means like 2-3 more games.
Gabriel: In reality, running with a firing gun is difficult.
Matt: It could very well be, Kyle, but even our demo was subpar.
Donovan: Apparently the game feels more suited to a keyboard/mouse combo...
Gabriel: If they're aiming for realism, running with a gun is mostly a no-no.
Jesus: Realism?
Jerry: Realism...
Jesus: What, pray tell, is realistic about FFVII?
Jerry: In a game...from FFVII...
Matt: Meow, realism!
Gabriel: Even when running with a 9mm, firing at something is
hard.
* Jerry takes a nap.
Liv: Did either of you play the new Paper Mario game?
Matt: Super Paper Mario was not playable, I'm afraid.
Jesus: They didn't even show Cube stuff, I hear.
* Jerry did not see any.
Matt: It looks fantastic though - like an "Action-RPG," but with mario levels instead.
Jesus: From what I've heard, Nintendo's booth was ALL Wii/DS.
Matt: Actually- ALL DS, with only hidden Wii stuff.
Josh: Yeah, they got rid of their NES booth for some reason.
Jesus: Hehe.
Jesus: The Cube IS about as relevent as the NES at this point.
Donovan: The Wii looks promising in general...despite the unwieldy controller.
Jerry: Yep.
Liv: I wish they'd make an actual sequel to Super Mario RPG... T_T
Matt: There were dozens upon dozens of playable DS's, and they were all incredibly lined up.
Matt: It was a sight to behold.
Kyle: I'm glad the DS is starting to take off more.
Jerry: Playing = believing, and I BELIEVE!
Kyle: DS vs. PSP - did the DS win?
Jerry: Heck, yes.
Gabriel: Yes, mostly.
Kyle: Sweet.
Matt: And the NES is having a huge influence now! Come on, guys.
Matt: We have the Virtual Console in the works...
Jerry: It's won since, like, the beginning of the year.
Kyle: Lol, I was just clarifying.
Gabriel: My PSP ended up being used as a freaking flash drive.
Gabriel: I store my thesis files on it. T_T
Jesus: I got the 2.6 update for MM Powered Up, so no roms for me.
Gabriel: Hah! I didn't update yet!
Kyle: PSP is too expensive still, and they break way too easily.
Matt: Saleswise, I think the two systems are neck and neck in North America, though the Japanese sales are absolutely phenomenal, I hear.
Donovan: The PSP has only one game I'm looking forward to: Lenneth.
Kyle: I'm looking forward to Lenneth and Crisis Core.
Kyle: Also... I'm thinking of getting Itadaki Street Special imported.
Kyle: PSP is region free right?
Jerry: Yep.
Jesus: For games.
Kyle: Nice.
Jesus: Not for movies.
Jesus: Not like you want a UMD movie...
Kyle: Nah, I prefer a bigger screen, though the screen for PSPs are big enough for movies.
Kyle: My step brother has one. I watched "The Punisher" on it... was pretty good - I was impressed.
Gabriel: It's terrible on the battery though.
Jerry: I have maybe 5 games I want for PSP, only two of which I want very badly.
Liv: What about the new Harvest Moon games? Were there any there?
Jerry: HMDS.
Matt: There might have been one, Liv, but I'm not sure.
Matt: I didn't play any myself.
Jerry: *ahem*
Jerry: Harvest Moon DS.
Matt: Heh, was it there? ^^;;;
Jerry: Yes. ^^
Matt: My apologies.
* Wonderslime saw 300 million games in 2 days.
Jesus: Hehe.
Liv: Are they ever going to bring over Harvest Moon: DS for Girls?
Jerry: I... am not sure.
* Jerry saw it when Vigi played it.
* Jerry has never played an HM though, so ^^;
Jesus: Well, if Majesco can bring over Cooking Mama, anything's possible.
Kyle: Did anyone take a look at .hack//GU or Fragment?
Jerry: Yessir - GU.
Matt: Oh! My turn!
Kyle: Good, yes?
Jerry: I liked. ^^
Jerry: It was fun.
Matt: Well... I had an interview with Namco, and yeah, it looked pretty good.
Matt: Graphically, blah, but gameplay-wise... promising.
Gabriel: I want GU.
Kyle: Nice.
Jesus: Is that another 50-part game?
Kyle: It's 3-part.
Matt: A 3-part, yes.
Donovan: I lost interest in .//hack after Infection.
Kyle: Apparently, they're a lot longer.
Jesus: So I'll be closer to the end when I tire of it because they don't improve anything between games?
Gabriel: The important questions is whether I can load my data flags from the previous games.
Jerry: It [GU] might make me get back into .hack again if that means anything, and I stopped at Infection.
Jesus: Same here, Xero.
Jesus: Actually, no, I stopped at the second one...
Matt: I asked specifically about //fragment to the representatives that we met with, and they were very mum about the subject.
Matt: Almost humble...
Donovan: Is the gameplay better?
Kyle: Each of the three games supposedly just shows different points of view of the same events.
Kyle: And they're A LOT longer supposedly.
Jerry: Gameplay was actually, you know, involved. It was pretty cool.
Jesus: Interesting.
Donovan: No more sleeping during fights?
Jerry: Indeed. ^^
Kyle: I had to drag myself through Outbreak and Quarantine.
Gabriel: I finished all four.
Kyle: The story helped.
Jesus: Will it improve from part to part?
Kyle: I think it will be different, 'cuz I think you play as a different character each game.
Jesus: Weird.
Matt: It really looks like they've shoved //fragment onto the back burner and right off the stove, as far as a N.A. release goes, anyway.
Gabriel: The screens actually look nice.
Jesus: This is for PS2 right?
Kyle: I've been watching .hack//Roots... it's a prequel to .hack//GU.
Jerry: Ooh, sounds like Shining force.
Gabriel: Yes.
Kyle: The story seems kinda nice.
* Jerry needs to play that.
Jerry: *all of it*
Gabriel: Shining Force sucks.
Donovan: Agreed.
Jerry: Eh, I'd rather find out for myself. ^^;
Gabriel: The difficulty was so random, it's insane.
Jesus: That's another thing - with the price of the PS3, does anyone else here expect to see more good RPGs for the PS2 for a little longer than we saw on the PS1?
Jesus: Perhaps a lot longer?
Gabriel: Indeed.
Jerry: Probably. Smaller companies will wait until there's an installed userbase.
Donovan: Well...Persona 3's coming.
Kyle: I'm not sure.
Gabriel: I mean, Persona, FFXII, Xenosaga 3, etc.
Matt: I don't know
Jesus: I can't imagine, barring the odd 360 game or heavy Wii support, that many Japanese devs are going to make the next-gen jump for a long time.
Jerry: Bigger companies will only risk their largest ventures, I imagine.
Matt: It's become a hot thing to deposit old systems immediately.
Matt: It's pretty sad.
Kyle: Was anyone else not surprised by Xenosaga getting cut in half?
Jerry: I wasn't, but it still annoys me.
Matt: Yeah, me too.
Gabriel: Me also.
Jesus: Xenosaga - boring.
Kyle: They should keep making the anime.
Gabriel: I wanted the dang thing to finish what Gears theoretically started.
Matt: Aww.
* Jerry punts Jesus.
Jerry: Dont' ruin our fun. ;)
Jesus: I tried to play it, but playing for nine hours and not actually pressing buttons for more than 10 minutes is a turnoff.
Jesus: Sorry, I'm totally against hour-long cutscenes.
Jerry: That's fine.
Jerry: I was kidding. ^^;
Matt: There were no hour-long cutscenes. :P
Matt: But, agreed - lots of non-game time.
Matt: Though, I have some XSIII details that I also learned from Namco, if anyone cares to hear.
Donovan: Go head.
Matt: Xenosaga III will combine the best of both worlds from the previous two, allegedly.
Matt: A similar skill system and online-database feature are returning.
Gabriel: But the important question is: Why wasn't there a sequel to Radiata stories announced?!?! >:(
