Nintendo Switches It Up

Nintendo today announced the Nintendo Switch, its newest home gaming system. As many predicted, the system looks to combine the power of home gaming system with the portability of a handheld. In its home configuration, the Switch rests within the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects to system to a TV. If users lift the Switch from the Dock, then it switches to portable mode using the device's own screen.

The system features two detachable Joy-Con controllers that can be deployed in multiple ways. One player can use both parts, each in one hand; or two players can use each one separately. More Joy-Con can be used to add extra players, and players can combine both Joy-Con onto a Grip accessory to make it more like a traditional gamepad. An optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will also be available.

The Nintendo Switch will be released in March 2017. Pricing and a list of titles have not yet been announced, though its introductory video showed both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim running on the device.
