Paradox Interactive, a developer and publisher based in Sweden known for its historical strategy titles, has purchased White Wolf Publishing and all of its intellectual properties. Under this new ownership, White Wolf will function as a seperate entity within Paradox that will employ a dedicated team run by CEO Tobias Sjögren, formerly the Executive Vice President of Paradox's Business Development. Paradox explained that the purchase was due to an interest in expanding White Wolf's properties.
"Like Paradox's games, White Wolf's properties have dedicated, passionate communities," said Fredrik Wester, CEO and President of Paradox Interactive, via press release. "While there are similarities in spirit, White Wolf's IPs have very different themes than Paradox's titles, and deserve their own brand and team. We have great respect for White Wolf's gaming worlds and see big opportunities for their expansion in the future under our new subsidiary."
White Wolf Publishing's properties have received releases across various forms of media, from pen and paper RPGs to collectible card games. Among its more prominent properties is World of Darkness, which includes Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Mage: The Awakening, and Vampire: The Masquerade, the last of which was made into the cult classic RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. A long-in-development MMORPG was planned for World of Darkness but was cancelled in April 2014.
