The latest issue of Famitsu has brought new information on Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana, Square Enix's action RPG for the Nintendo DS, to light. The magazine discussed several gameplay details, as well as giving us an idea of when to look for this title to hit retailers' shelves.
Famitsu confirmed that Square Enix will hold true to its promise of making Children of Mana resemble Secret of Mana, as a strong emphasis will be placed on the latest game's multiplayer capabilities. Children of Mana will feature combination moves in battle, allowing two or more players to cooperate to better achieve their objectives. Specifically, Famitsu mentioned an example of one player attacking another to propel him over a barrier.
While Children of Mana will have some limited form of stylus usage, the main action will all be handled through the buttons and the d-pad, as Square Enix mentioned an aversion to using the stylus simply for its own sake. Also, in a change for the Mana series, characters will be able to equip multiple weapon types at one time. This feature was demonstrated in the earliest screenshots of the game, which showed the hero equipped with both a sword and bow. Mastering the interaction between different weapon types will be one key to emerging from battle victorious.
While RPGamer previously reported that it was unknown whether Seiken Densetsu DS: Children of Mana's "winter 2006" release date would be the first or last quarter of 2006, new clarification has been provided which narrows down the timeframe considerably. It is now known that the game will be released this winter in Japan, which means DS owners could be playing the latest Mana game as early as December 2005 or as late as February 2006.
