NCsoft Corporation has announced preliminary beta testing plans for City of Villains, the sequel to City of Heroes. Long-time City of Heroes players will be rewarded with beta testing slots for the new title.
Priority will be given to those who have been subscribed the longest. Players who have been subscribed for at least 12 months will automatically receive beta test slots. Players subscribed for at least six months will receive the next level of priority in consideration. Higher character level is not necessarily an advantage in the selection process.
"It makes sense for us to offer this incentive to our most dedicated players," said City of Heroes lead designer Jack Emmert. "Who else would be more capable of assisting us in the beta test than the folks most familiar with the way City of Heroes works?"
New content is still being released for City of Heroes. The third expansion, A Council of War, will be launched in the next few months, and NCsoft will soon be announcing details of a City of Heroes Collectors DVD Edition, which will be released next month. City of Villains is slated for a 2005 release.
