Enix has shipped a total of 1 million units of Dragon Quest IV for the PlayStation across Japan. Over 750,000 copies were sold within the first two weeks of the game's release. The original Famicom version sold over 3 million copies in Japan, and with the added sales of the PSOne Dragon Quest IV, the game is well on its way to the 4 million total mark.

Released in 1992 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, the title is known as Dragon Warrior IV in North America. The game has been completely remade using Dragon Warrior VII's graphics engine. The remake should be available in North America sometime in 2002.
