Gust revealed some new details and media for the latest title in the Atelier series, the recently re-romanised Atelier Lydie & Suelle: Alchemists of the Mysterious Painting. The details include a couple of returning characters along with some information about its iteration of the synthesis system.
The two returning characters are Sophie Neuenmuller and Liane Mistlud. Sophie was the main character in the earlier title, Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Book. Now aged 24, she is now a senior alchemist and gives Lydie and Suelle advice. Meanwhile, Liane appeared in Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. Aged 22, she currently runs a shop where she sells the gains from her hunting exploits. These two are joined in the game by a new character, the 23-year-old Matthias Ferrié Adalet. Matthias is a knight and volunteers to be an escort to the protagonists.

Like the previous two games, the synthesis system uses a grid for placing ingredients. The first ingredient used works as a catalyst, adding in bonuses to certain squares that are added when another ingredient is placed over them. At any time during synthesis, players can use an activation item to change the effects and charactistics of the item being created. New recipes can be discovered through various means, including combat, material gathering, and exploration in the various painting worlds that Lydie and Suelle can venture into.
The third game in the Mysterious sub-series, Atelier Lydie & Suelle is being developed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Nintendo Switch. The game is planned for launch in Japan this winter.
