The newest major expansion for Grinding Gear Games' free-to-play action RPG Path of Exile has a release date. Fall of Oriath, dubbed the 3.0 expansion, will be available for PC on August 4, 2017. Like other Path of Exile content, the expansion will be free to all players.
In addition to adding a new fifth story act, Fall of Oriath revamps the previous difficulty-level based progression system of Path of Exile. Previously, players were required to play through the game again at a higher difficulty before heading to end-game content. That system has been replaced by five more acts (bringing to total to ten), as players return to previous areas that ahve been altered considerably since the player's first went through them.
Path of Exile was originally released in 2013 for PC, and is planned for release on Xbox One later this year. All of the content from the expansions will be available on the Xbox One version.
