Sega of Japan mentioned Monday that the upcoming GameCube version of Sonic Team's online RPG Phantasy Star Online would have a free thirty day trial period. During this trial period, the player will be able to test out the game and decide whether he or she likes it well enough to continue playing.
After the thirty day trial expires, the users of the game will then have to pay a set fee per month to continue playing online. Keep in mind that these conditions and terms do only apply to the Japanese version of the title, and any details are certainly subject to change before Phantasy Star Online makes its way to North America.
Expect more news on the stateside launch of Phantasy Star Online as its release approaches, and keep watching RPGamer for developments as they are available.
