Koei Tecmo released a new batch of details and media for the latest Atelier title, Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, which is releasing next month in North America and Europe. Highlighted in this latest update is the game's synthesis system, with various characters also getting a chance to shine.
As in other Atelier titles, crafting items through alchemy is key. As Sophie and her friends travel the lands, they gain new recipes which can be added to the titular Mysterious Book, Plachta, who also takes the form of a young girl. In Sophie's updated system, players have access to a 4x4 panel that can grow in size depending on the cauldron used. Ingredients take up part of the grid, allowing players to place more items through sensible placement of the differently-shaped tiles.
Joining main character Sophie Neuenmuller is a large number of other cast members. She and her friends Monika Ellmenreich and Oskar Behlmer begin a quest to restore the memories of Plachta from their home town of Kirchen Bell. They soon come across Julio Sebald Leidenschaft, a knight from the nation of Adalett who is investigating alchemy, and Fritz Weissberg, an ex-mercenary who now works as a puppeteer. Adding to the cast list is Logy, a returning character from Atelier Escha & Logy who runs a blacksmithing shop, and Corneria, a girl who runs a mass-production shop thanks to her mysterious ability to duplicate items. Other store owners are Harol Simens, who runs a clock shop, and the travelling tailor, Leon. Finally in this update, Horst Basler runs the local café and is a great source of information for Sophie.
Atelier Sophie is set to be released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in North America on June 7, 2016, and in Europe on June 10, 2016. The game will be available digitally for both platforms, with physical standard and limited editions also available for the PlayStation 4 version.
