The Bard's Tale (the original, not the comedy remake) is one of those RPG classics that, sadly, you just had to be there to truly appreciate. By today's standards, it is user-unfriendly in the extreme. Excepting the Amiga and Apple IIGS versions, it's also eye-bleedingly ugly.
Back in the day, though, The Bard's Tale was a breathtaking adventure through incredibly difficult dungeons that tested one's ability to draw graph paper maps to the extreme. How will inXile modernize the formula in its Bard's Tale IV revival? We don't have all the answers yet, but the game's first in-engine trailer shows us that, audiovisually at least, this ain't your momma's Bard's Tale.
