Jordan Weisman, the creator of the Shdowrun setting used by both tabletop and videogame RPGs, has launched a new Kickstarter project that promises to revive that beleaguered franchise. He started this project with the goal of raising $400,000 in order to fund the creation of Shadowrun Returns, a new single-player RPG for the PC that will feature 2D graphics and turn-based gameplay. Amazingly, even though this project only launched the day before this article was posted, it has already reached its goal.
Even though the goal has been met, the Kickstarter project will be open until April 29, and Mr. Weisman and his team have promised to add more features to the game with additional funding. Additional revenue will add things such as Mac or Linux support, translation to additional languages, extra content, and giving their offices access to running water. Several benefits for pledging are being offered ranging from a DRM-free digital copy of the game for $15 up to a $10,000 reward where Mr. Weisman will personally run a game of the Shadowrun tabletop RPG for the backer and five friends.
