This past weekend marked the first anniversary of the launch of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. The game has been a success by almost any measure, with 500,000 registered users and 115,000 players logging in each day.
Quite a few additions were made over the past year. November saw the rise of player cities and player-owned homes, as well as the ability to construct public buildings and elect mayors. In December, creature mounts and player-crafted vehicles were added, including the speeder and swoop bike, and early 2004 saw the addition of the Geonosian Bio Lab, Deathwatch Bunker, and Corellian Corvette adventure areas.
The improvements should continue with the expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed, scheduled for release this October. The expansion will add space combat to the game, with 15 starships, four space-based professions, and two new playable species.
The expansion's launch date will also see the launch of a new veteran's reward: all players who have subscribed for six consecutive months will receive a deed for a multi-passenger SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht 3000. If that sounds familiar to readers of the Star Wars novels, it should--it's the same model as Lando Calrissian's ship, Lady Luck. This deed will be awarded to all six-month veterans thereafter.
