Following up on Nintendo's last Pokémon Crystal press release comes another, giving an exact release date for the newest Game Boy Color Pokémon game as well as giving the differences between this game and its Japanese counterpart. Nothing was mentioned about the chief selling point of Pokémon Crystal over in Japan -- mobile adapter support, allowing players to trade their Pokémon over a cellular phone network. The option to choose a male or female character and the improved battle scenes, featuring more animated attacks, will remain in the North American version.
Also in the press release were revealed some recent statistics about the Pokémon series: current games in the series average a hundred thousand units sold a week, and Pokémon games made up ten percent of all software sales over a 12-month period. Pokémon Stadium 2 is the top-selling console game so far this year, selling over four hundred thousand units in the first three weeks of its release. Finally the release date information everyone has been waiting for: Pokémon Crystal will arrive on July 30, 2001 at about $34.95.
