BioWare continued its new series of gameplay videos for the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda, with the second video focusing on the game's characters and growth systems. Mass Effect: Andromeda offers more freedom in player character builds than previous games, letting players select and upgrade any skill, though these skills are still divided into the combat, tech, and biotic groups.
As players unlock skills, they will gain access to profiles. The seven profiles follow similar construction to the original trilogy's classes, and provide bonuses to various skills. For example, the Adept profile offers boosts to various biotic-type skills. Profiles can be swapped at any time. Andromeda also introduces favorites, which lets players select four loadouts of three skills and one profile and switch between them on the fly, albeit with a cooldown before skills are available to use.
The game's six squadmates have their own templated builds, each having three active and two passive skills. For example Cora uses biotics to help support, while Drack is a damage-soaking bruiser. In addition to the usual orders players can give to their squadmates, say to defend a particular area or attack a certain enemy, they can also join up with them to unleash power combos.
The developer also released a behind-the-scenes video featuring Natalie Dormer, who talks about the character she voices in the game, Dr. Lexi T'Perro. Dr. T'Perro is an Asari physician on the Tempest and is one of the first chracters players meet in the game. A selection of new screenshots is also available below along with the two new videos.
Mass Effect: Andromeda marks a fresh start for the Mass Effect series, taking place in the neighbouring Andromeda galaxy as opposed to the original trilogy, which took place entirely within the Milky Way. Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in North America on March 21, 2017 and in Europe on March 24, 2017.
