Square Enix recently revealed new screenshots and details for Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, this time primarily focusing on item synthesis. Crafting falls under the watchful eye of recurring character Welch Vineyard, who in this iteration is a blonde girl working as a researcher in the town of Medauq. By visiting Welch's lab, players can learn crafting techniques, which can then be used by the party. There are three types of techniques available to players: Recipe Synthesis, Creative Synthesis, and Equipment Enhancement.
Recipe Synthesis is the standard method of crafting, where players must combine the required ingredients to create a new item. There are seven types of recipe and item. Mixtures allows players to create recovery and attack items. Handicraft allows for the creation of recovery and attack items but more is focused on status effects. Smithing results in new weapons and armour. Craftmanship creates new accessories. Cooking provides food that can be used in battle to restore HP or MP as well as providing buffs. Finally, Alchemy allows players to create new recipes.
Creative Synthesis allows players to throw together an assortment of six items and see what results. While there is a large amount of chance involved, a rare item can potentially come out of it. Finally, Equipment Enhancement lets players synthesise materials onto the party's equipment. These materials can add to the item's strength or provide special effects.
The screenshots were rounded out with a few more images from private actions and some more combat skills. There are also new character trailers, viewable below, for Victor Oakville and Miki Sauvester. Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is due to be released in Japan for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on March 31, 2016. The game will be released in North America and Europe sometime in 2016, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
