"Music is the wine which inspires one to new generative processes, and I am Bacchus who presses out this glorious wine for mankind and makes them spiritually drunken."

The Goose and the Cursed Knight
Rexy Live A Live | Prelude to the Demon King
Author's Comments

Odio, the main villain for Live A Live and the subject matter I've chosen for this round, can be seen as an unconventional type of villain for its time so what I put together was something just as unconventional for what I'd normally do. It's a piano-led track, but with a more modern and almost gutsy backup of what could be considered a chamber-band setting in parts; think of it as Shimomura meets Reuben Kee meets Avenged Sevenfold meets Russ Conway (!) and you'll see what I mean. The original track I chose for the task, "Twisted Goosewings", was a symphonic track that I wrote 2 years ago for an unfinished soundtrack project, representing a fallen hero that could shapeshift into a goose at will. Chances are, if you know how the final scenarios of Chapter 8 in the game go like, you'll understand the closer link between original and source tune selections as well as how the structure related to Odio as a character. Thanks for reading this, now go listen :)

Wings of Steel
The Black Antonio Final Fantasy IV | The Red Wings and Main Theme
Author's Comments

This remix opens with a composite of the Theme of Sorrow and Red Wings theme (the melody is Theme of Sorrow, while the insistent hammering rhythm comes from the Red Wings theme), which gives way to a solo, fugal exposition for the organ, using a quieter, more introspective stop. This leads to a classic rock section (1:55) which centres on the Theme of Sorrow, and contains a virtuosic solo for the organ across the chords of the theme. The original theme only makes its appearance near the four-minute mark, on the quiet, introspective tone. The Red Wings rhythm returns again at 4:54 in an intense extreme metal style, with the Crystal theme making a brief appearance as a screaming siren. Red Wings is only heard in its entirety at the six-minute mark, whereupon the remix ends on a reprise of the opening.

Done using Sibelius 4, and mastered using GarageBand and Audacity.

And here are your finalists for the Final Round of "The Grand Audition 2009." Sadly, Tom Plets and Jormungand were unable to submit their entries. As such, I was left with two remaining contenders. As if by a twist of fate, I received an entry from someone named Anthony Black. After much thought, I decided to include his entry in the roster of competitors, thereby disregarding the "winner or runner-up only" rule. It may seem unfair to others, but I figured the weight of the bonus percentage points should be sufficient to offset this considering how two of the preliminary rounds were decided by mere fractions of a percent. Voting shall last for a week. Go to the round page and cast your votes. Remember, the weight of the reader votes is greater in this round, so support your favorite by giving them high marks!

I am awfully sorry about the tardiness of this update. I have so many things going on right now: a couple of dance performances, case conferences, exit reports... Gah! I haven't run my Sibelius in weeks! Anyway, don't forget to cast your vote.
