Tom Plets Final Fantasy XI: Chains of Promathia | Turmoil
Author's Comments

This is a remix of the boss battle song "Turmoil" from Final Fantasy XI. This song always signals a desperate fight, especially when the Paladin realizes he forgot his potions!

I chose to do a industrial techno-ish remix which was rather a novelty for me. This style accurately depicts the intense action associated with the "turmoilific" (I just invented a new word) battles we're dealing with here. The vocal hits at 00:14 and 00:50 is me saying "the beat" with heavy filtering. The sound effect right after the countdown at 2:14 is a recording of the sword weapon skill "Vorpal Blade." Sound clips of a sword being drawn are also recorded from the game. The song ends on a slighty dissonant major chord that seems to say: "yea we won! but half our team is dead..."

Now, just as the title suggests, this Sound Test update is to inform those aspiring to join "The Grand Audition 2009" that Round 1: Belligerent Youngsters has been extended by two weeks due to the lack of submissions. The battle wouldn't be as exciting if there were only a couple of competitors slugging it out for the title, right? So for those who are planning to join, be informed that you may still submit for this round. The main contest page and the round page have been updated accordingly.

We have one of the round entries as our piece today, just to give you folks a taste of what is to come, as well as give the artists an idea of what they'll be up against. This one is a very modern mix by none other than Tom Plets. I'm itching to give my comments right now, but I shall reserve them for the competition proper. Go ahead and download it. After a few listens, I'm sure you'll be grooving to it as well.

This will be a very brief update. My elective/vacation in TCVS ends formally this Sunday, after which will be the infinitely toxic rotation in obstetrics and gynecology. I'll have to start reading again since my last rotation in the department was way back in June of 2007, so I'm a bit rusty. Enjoy the weekend folks!

P.S. Again, please make your comments and suggestions regarding "The Grand Audition 2009" in the official thread, the link for which is available in the main contest page.
