Comment: I was in the mood to make a wallpaper and chose .hack as my subject. The game looks very exciting and the official web site was pretty cool. I made the original white version in June. But someone said it was too bright, so I made the black version. I like them both and decided to keep and submit both versions. As usual, I made a Mac version and a PC version. The differences are the gamma output and the layout. (Am I the ONLY one that caters to both OS?)

Comment: A divine desktop background worthy of Celestia! I was going through some pictures I took recently. One of them was this beautiful shot of the Sun behind the clouds. It was almost heavenly. Call it divine inspiration, if you will. I decided to make a desktop background featuring our favorite nauseatingly cute ninja wanna-be angel trainee, Flonne! I couldn't find any usable picture of Flonne on line, oddly. So, I decided to scan an art from the official guide. My scanner is terrible and so it couldn't scan clearly. But I did the best I could to get a decent scan and fixed it up with image adjustments. The standard Pen tool was used to select Flonne. I used my photograph as the background. Added a soft white layer to cover out part of the clouds so Flonne stands out more. Created a custom paint brush in the shape of a feather and painted over a layer with these nice feathers. Added some layer styles to spruce them up. Created a custom pattern of dots. I think the dots add a touch of contemporary style. Again, some layer styles to spiff them up. The bottom curve thing was inspired by Qwest's commercials. I really liked the effect and style so I created one like it. The types are in Zapfino font type. I like this font because the letters are connected like cursive calligraphy. And it suits the divine theme. Overall, I'm VERY pleased with it.

Comment: Just a tribute to one of my favorite RPG. This will be a first of a series of wallpaper for FF VI. I've created two versions for both Mac & Wiodows. Windows version has a different layout and is brighter to accomadate desktop icons and PC monitors.

Comment: This is a little something I put together for a friend. She's an excellent cosplayer, as you can see. One of my previous project was to recreate the sending at Kilika. So, with her permission, I made a nice digital artwork out of her. I like it so much, I decided to turn it into a wallpaper. There's two versions, one for the Mac and the other for the PC. We see a lot of wallpaper featuring Yuna, but none featured an excellent cosplayer. I hope you like it!
Here's a quick synopsis on how I made this.

Ikai Okuri - This was a project in itself. So, I'll break it down.

Nessa/Yuna: I took a pic of Nessa and traced her with the pen path tool. Then, converted to selection and copy & pasted her into ikai_okuri.psd. To make her blend in with the picture of a sunset over a lake, I scaled her down a bit. Then, I adjusted the hue & saturation and added the lighting filter. (This took A LOT of adjusting.) To add depth of field perception, I progressively blurred her wand. For her reflection, I just pasted a copy under her, flip vertically, added the ripple filter, and changed the blending and opacity.

Pyreflies: This is a rather tedious one. Fortunately, I found a Photoshop action that helps me make it. Someday, I'm gonna follow that action closely so I know exactly how it's done.

Sunset: The only thing I did to it was progressively blurred the bottom foreground of the lake to add depth of field.

Wallpaper - Here's the second part.

Ikai Okuri: I just placed the image into the document and added drop shadows. Then selected two borders around it and cut into new layer. I then lowered the fill opacity and applied a bevel down style.

Hymns of the Fayth: I scanned the lyrics to the Song of Prayers into Photoshop. Then selected the hiragana and copy & paste into the document. Did a bit of scaling and layer styles (Bevel, Outer Glow, Drop Shadow.) And placed it to the side. I also made another copy and enlarged and blurred it to put in the background.

Sidebar: Do I really need to explain how to do this? I just a pastel purple because... I dunno... It just looked good, I guess.

Water Droplets: I learned this from "Photoshop 6 Down & Dirty Tricks" By Scott Kelby. First, I filled a new layer with white. Then applied the Add Noise Filter. Then I blurred it with the Gaussian Blur Filter. After that, I adjusted the Threshold so that water droplets form. Then blurred it again and readjust the threshold to make the smaller droplets. Using the Magic Wand, I selected the white are and deleted it. Then, inversed the selection and filled the droplets with gray. I also beveled it and stroked them, Next, I created a new layer below it and merged down to merge the layer style. Then, I changed the blending to hard light and adjusted the curve to give it that shiny look.

FF X Logo: Just placed it into document, scaled down, and blend to screen.

Watermark: I didn't explain this last time. It's just a similar style to the TV networks when they display their logo on lower right corner during shows. I just typed my SN in the font, Ethocentric. Then set fill to 0% and beveled it.

Comment: Yuna looks so damn hot in Final Fantasy X 2, I just had to make a wallpaper. Plus, my friend recently cosplayed as the new Yuna so I figured it'd be a cool thing to do. This was a two part project. The first part was to edit the picture of my friend. She made the costume prior to the recent release of FF X 2 information, so the costume needed to be updated. Here is the original pic As you can see, I added the Abes emblem, a second armband and colored her skirt. The second part of the project was the wallpaper. I based the layout on one of the official wallpaper but added some more elements. The phrase, "Now... This Is My Story." is a line I came up with. The full line is, "Two years ago, this was your story. Now... This is my story." It refers to Auron's line to Tidus, "This is your story." Since Yuna is the main protagonist in FF X 2, it's now Yuna's story. All in all, this took me close to 7 hours to make. I started at 5 am, finished around noon.

Comment:

This took me a total of 6 hours straight making this. And another 90 minutes correcting the tiny imperfections and all around improvement.

It's composed of 43 separate layers. Weighing in at 34 MB unflattened.

Here's a rundown on how I m ade this:

Shion & KOS-MOS - I was lucky to find two 1024 X 780 wallpapers featuring them This ensures that they will look good and clear. Had I used a smaller pic, there'd be pixelations. Anyway, I traced them with thev Pen path tool and copied and paste them into my document. I used Corel Knockout 2 to select and extract KOS-MOS' hairs. I also erased any stray pixels I don't need. The result was a nice, smooth selection, no jaggies.

Circle Console - I drew a circle and divided it into 8 slices in Illustrator 10. Then, I imported it in to use as a template. I took a bunch of AGWS pics, erased their backgrounds, placed them in each slice. Then, I made clipping paths for each slice to knockout anything outside of that slice, showing only a portion of the mechs. Then, I created a new layer to make the translucent blue panels and applied layer styles to them. I did A LOT of experimenting here to get the right look. Once satisfied, I saved the stles to use for later.

Middle Grid display - I filled a layer with black and applied the style I saved earlier, but with a few adjustments. Added a new layer, filled that with a custom pattern I made which is a grid. Then, entered Quickmask, used gradieent tool to gently knockout the right portion of the grids. Finally, I typed in "You shall Be As Gods" and copy & paste over and over. And knocked it out a bit. (THis also appeared in Xenosaga, just like in the Eldridge.)

VECTOR Logo - I couldn't find a clear, large pic of the logo to use. So... I made it myself! I traced the logo from a fuzzy screen shot. Then convert to selection and saved it. To get the nice chromre look, I applied a gaaussian blur filter to the Vector selection channel. Then, fill a layer with white. Under Lightings, I selected the Vector channel as texture. This gives a nice, smooth, beveled look. To add that REAL shiny chrome look, I adjusted the curves to the desired effect. I filled the inside of the logo with a red gradient. I did the word VECTOR similar to that.

Character panel displays - First, I drew evenly spaced guides in wich to draw the squares with rectangle selection. Then I skew them to get that slanted look. The process is similar to the Circle Console. The characters' backgrounds were transparent already... Except whoever did it, did a bad job. Because I can see white outlines around the characters. I was too tired to erase them all with a one pixel eraser, but luckily I came up with a quicker way. For each character, I selected the transparent areas with magic wand. Then, I expanded the selection by 1 pixel, which selects the outline. I just hit delete, and POOF! No more outlines.

Xenosaga Logo & Power line - I just pasted the logo in,. changed the blendings to hide the white. Then drew lines connecting the ZOHAR Modifyer to the circle console. And applied layer styles to give it that glow.

Background - I actually did this second, after Shion & KOSMOS. Its composed of two layers. The bottom is filled black. The top is filled with a custom pattern scan lines and blended with Hard Light.

Watermark - Just my SN, to give me credit. =D
