All the cut scenes are here (except for the game's ending), but I didn't have enough time to get all the normal town script and such, so most of it isn't here. Also, some parts are missing, usually because I didn't have time to transcribe them (they proceeded automatically in the game), so until then, anyone who would like to email me those missing script segments is welcome to do so. ^_^ This transcript is not meant for people who have never played the game; the game is really so complex that those who haven't played it through will likely find this confusing. This transcript records what many people like to collect, and that is the dialog of the story. NOTICE: Because I am a generally busy person, I don't have the time or focus to complete this document. No further releases from me will be seen. However, if anyone wants to complete this document, they are allowed to, as long as they leave my notes, notices and copyrights, and wherever they add their own, they must make it clear that those words are from them, and not from me. This means that you are allowed to modify the document under these circumstances, but the rest of my copyright still holds. ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Long ago, the War of the Magi reduced the world to a scorched wasteland, and magic simply ceased to exist. 1000 years have passed... Iron, gunpowder and steam engines have been rediscovered, and high technology reigns... But there are some who would enslave the world by reviving the dread destructive force known as "magic." Can it be that those in power are on the verge of repeating a senseless and deadly mistake? ______________________________________________________________________ VICKS: There's the town... WEDGE: Hard to believe an Esper's been found intact in there, 1000 years after the War of the Magi... VICKS: Think it's still alive? WEDGE: Probably... ...judging from the urgency of our orders. VICKS: And this woman, this...sorcerer. Why's she here? I heard she fried 50 of our Magitek Armored soldiers in under 3 minutes. WEDGE: Not to worry. The Slave Crown on her head robs her of all conscious thought. She'll follow our orders. WEDGE: We'll approach from the east. Move out! ______________________________________________________________________ WEDGE: Let's put her on point. No sense taking any risks. Forward! (If you try to leave...) WEDGE: The Esper's gotta be in here. Move out! (Guard) Machine-riding, self-important swine! Take this! (Battle with Lobo.) (Guards) Imperial Magitek Armor? Not even Narshe's safe anymore! (Battle with 2 Guards.) (Guard) Narshe's freedom depends on us! (Battle with 2 Lobos.) (Battle with 2 Guards.) (Guard) We've got 'em trapped, now! (Battle with 2 Guards and Lobo.) (Guard) We must defend the mines! (Battle with 2 Guards and 2 Vomammoths.) WEDGE: According to our source, the frozen Esper was found in a new mine shaft. ...Maybe this one... ______________________________________________________________________ VICKS: I'll handle this. Stand back! (VICKS slides his armor through a barrier.) (Guard) We won't hand over the Esper!! Whelk! Get them! (Begin battle with Whelk.) VICKS: Hold it! Think back to our briefing...... WEDGE: What about it?! VICKS: Do you recall hearing about a monster that eats lightning...... WEDGE: ......and stores the energy in its shell! VICKS: Right. So whatever you do, don't attack the shell! WEDGE: Alright already! (End battle with Whelk.) ______________________________________________________________________ This is the frozen Esper... WEDGE: Hey! What's the matter? Do you know something we don't......? GIRL: ...... The frozen creature began emitting an eerie light...... WEDGE: Where's that light coming from?! Uwaaaaaaa!!!! (WEDGE vanishes.) VICKS: Hey! Wedge......where are you? W......what's happening?! (VICKS vanishes.) GIRL: ...... ...... ...... (The Girl and the Esper interact, and her armor breaks down.) ______________________________________________________________________ GIRL: Where am I...? OLD MAN: Whoa! And I only just removed the crown! GIRL: ...head...hurts... (Old Man gets the Slave Crown.) OLD MAN: Easy! This is a Slave Crown. The others had complete control over you while you were wearing it. GIRL: I can't remember a thing... OLD MAN: Don't worry. It'll all come back to you... in time, that is. ......... A mysterious young woman, controlled by the Empire, and born with the gift of magic...... (Name the girl.) TERRA: My name... ...is...TERRA... OLD MAN: Impressive! I've never heard of anyone recovering so fast...! (Guards and Lobos are outside the house.) (Guard) Open up! Give us back the girl and the Empire's Magitek Armor!! (Old Man approaches the door but doesn't open it.) (Guard) Open this door! We want the girl! She's an officer of the Empire! (TERRA walks over to Old Man.) TERRA: Empire...? Magitek Armor...? OLD MAN: Look, I have to get you out of here! I don't have time to explain! (Old Man walks over to a back door.) OLD MAN: Over here! OLD MAN: Make your way out through the mines! I'll keep these brutes occupied! (TERRA walks out the back door and onto a skywalk leading to a mine. Several guards see her on the skywalk.) (Guard) She's up there!! (Guards corner TERRA in the mineshaft.) (Guard) Got her! (TERRA backs up, and falls through the floor. She passes out.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In a castle.) KEFKA: My sweet little magic user...! Uweee, he, he! With this Slave Crown I'll practically OWN you!! (Kefka puts the crown on TERRA's head, and she starts following orders. Kefka laughs maniacally.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Burning town backdrop. TERRA kills several soldiers with her Magitek Armor.) KEFKA: Uwee, hee, hee! Good! Burn up everything! ______________________________________________________________________ (A large assembly of soldiers. Gestahl is talking in front of them; Kefka, TERRA and two generals are behind him.) GESTAHL: We stand on the brink of a major breakthrough! In the days to come, we'll witness a total revival of magic! It is our destiny, and ours alone, to take this mystic force and claim what is rightfully ours! (The four behind Gestahl stand more closely behind him.) GESTAHL: With our new-found power, nothing can stand in our way! (Everyone salutes.) (Soldiers) Hurrah!!! Long live Emperor Gestahl!!! ______________________________________________________________________ (A younger man rushes through the front door of Old Man's home.) OLD MAN: Took you long enough! How goes the robbing and plundering trade? (Younger man is shocked.) Treasure hunter and trail-worn traveler, searching the world over for relics of the past... (Name the younger man.) LOCKE: I PREFER the term treasure hunting! OLD MAN: Ha! Semantic nonsense! LOCKE: There's a HUGE difference! (LOCKE waves his finger.) LOCKE: Anyway, were you the one who sent for me? OLD MAN: Yeah. There's a girl I'd like you to meet. LOCKE: ......!? This better not have anything to do with that Magitek-riding, imperial...witch!!! OLD MAN: Imperial troops are pursuing here even as we speak. This town is no match for the Empire. Our independence can only be assured if we join forces with the Returners, an undergrond resistance movement. That girl wasn't responsible for her actions. We must get her to understand our dilemma! LOCKE: Alright... I think we'd better help her... OLD MAN: Agreed. Make your way first to Figaro, and talk to the king. ______________________________________________________________________ (LOCKE drops down the hole TERRA fell through, and finds her. Guards see them from down the tunnel.) (Guard) Now we gotcha! (Multiple Guards arrive behind him.) LOCKE: Wonderful... There's a whole bunch of 'em... Kupo... (Moogles arrive behind LOCKE and TERRA.) LOCKE: Moogles...! Are you saying you want to help me? Kupo!!! (Battle begins, and Locke and the Moogles split up into three parties. LOCKE, KUPOP, KUPEK and KUMAMA are in one; MOG, KUTAN, KUKU and KUPAN are in another; and KUSHU, KURU, KURIN and KAMOG are in the third.) (Battle ends after all soldiers are defeated.) LOCKE: Thanks, Moogles! We're in your debt! (LOCKE lifts TERRA and runs down the shaft.) ______________________________________________________________________ (LOCKE and TERRA arrive at a dead end.) LOCKE: I think this switch'll... (A door opens.) (TERRA comes to.) LOCKE: Eh? You back with us now?! TERRA: You...saved me? (TERRA gets up.) LOCKE: Save your thanks for the Moogles! (TERRA crouches.) TERRA: Uhh...I can't remember anything...past or present. LOCKE: You have amnesia?! (TERRA gets up.) TERRA: A man said my memory would come back... LOCKE: Give it time. You're safe with me! I give you my word! TERRA: ??? LOCKE: I won't leave you until your memory returns!! By the way, this secret entrance might be useful some day. Don't forget about it! (TERRA blinks.) ______________________________________________________________________ (At Narshe's gate, a Guard notices LOCKE and TERRA.) (Guard) Eh? ...... Who might you be? (LOCKE and TERRA hide behind the wall.) LOCKE: This is the pits. We'd better hightail it southward, to Figaro. ______________________________________________________________________ (At Figaro Castle's gate.) (Soldier) Wait! Hey! Oh, it's you. Proceed. CHANCELLOR: It doesn't look like it, but this castle incorporates some of the most high-tech devices in existance. For example, ... Oops... they're all top-secret! ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside the throne room.) MAN: You mean, THIS young woman...?! (Man stares at TERRA then walks away.) TERRA: Who do you think you are? MAN: Oh...sorry! (Man turns around.) MAN: How rude of me to turn my back to a lady! The young king of Figaro Castle, ally to the Empire, and a master designer of machinery... (Name the Man.) EDGAR: I am EDGAR, King of Figaro. LOCKE: Surprised that someone like me knows a king? (EDGAR and LOCKE talk briefly.) LOCKE: Talk to you later! (LOCKE leaves.) EDGAR: So...you're an Imperial soldier! No problem. Figaro and the Empire are allies! Please relax while you're here. It's not in my blood to harm a lady. TERRA: Look, why are you helping me? Is it because of my...abilities? (EDGAR waves his finger.) EDGAR: I'll give you three reasons: First of all, your beauty has captivated me! Second...I'm dying to know if I'm your type... (EDGAR walks away a bit.) EDGAR: I guess your...abilities...would be a distance 3rd. TERRA: ......? What's with you, anyway? EDGAR: Guess my technique's getting a bit rusty... (EDGAR leaves.) TERRA: Hmmm... I suppose a normal girl would have found him dashing. But I'm hardly...normal... ______________________________________________________________________ (About the castle.) (Woman) Though EDGAR showers his attention on women, most are too smart to pay any attention to him. (Soldier) The Empire has smashed the three cities on the southern continent. Just a matter of time 'til they come up here... ______________________________________________________________________ (In EDGAR's chambers.) MATRON: EDGAR has a twin brother. He was such a nice boy... ______________________________________________________________________ (Flashback.) YOUTH: Brother, what's wrong with father? What's all this talk of his successor? EDGAR: Are you blind? Look how thin his face has become! YOUTH: ? ...... What is it? YOUTH: Brother! (EDGAR leaves.) YOUTH: Tears......?! EDGAR's twinbrother, who traded the throne for his own freedom... (Name the Youth.) ______________________________________________________________________ MATRON: Yes... His name is SABIN. Oh, he looked so like his father! When he ran away, he was a sweet little child. I wonder what he's like now? ______________________________________________________________________ (Around the castle.) (Scholar) Scholars the world over are doing research on magic. Silly people, scholar... (Scholar) Long ago, a force called "magic" existed. People who used magic were called "Mage Knights." CHANCELLOR: The whole business of succession was so repugnant to SABIN, the King's brother, that he fled the castle forever. The succession was settled with a coin toss... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the throne room.) EDGAR: Well? How do you like me castle? (Soldier arrives.) (Soldier) King Edgar! Someone from the Empire to see you! EDGAR: Probably Kefka! ______________________________________________________________________ (Kefka and two Troopers in the desert outside the castle.) KEFKA: Phooey! Emperor's Gestahl's stupid orders! KEFKA: EDGAR, you pinhead! Why do you have to live in the middle of nowhere? These recon jobs are the pits! KEFKA: Ahem...there's SAND on my boots! (Troopers clean off Kefka's boots.) (Troopers) Yes, Sir! All set, Sir! (Kefka laughs maniacally.) KEFKA: Idiots! (Kefka and the Troopers arrive at Figaro's gate.) (Soldier) Sir Kefka!? What on earth do... KEFKA: Outta my way! (EDGAR arrives.) (EDGAR talks to one Trooper.) EDGAR: I thought we were allies! What are you doing in my domain? (EDGAR talks to the other Trooper.) EDGAR: Looking for more cities to destroy? TROOPER: That's for us to know! (EDGAR talks to Kefka.) EDGAR: What brings Kefka, humble servant to Emperor Gestahl, into our lowly presence? KEFKA: A girl of no importance recently escaped from us. We heard she found refuge here... EDGAR: Hmm...this wouldn't have anything to do with this "witch" everyone's been whispering about, would it? KEFKA: Lies! She...merely stole something of minor value. Is she here? EDGAR: That's a tough one! EDGAR: You see, there're more girls here than grains of sand out there. I can't keep track of 'em all! KEFKA: I'd hate to be you if we found out you're lying... Mwa, ha! (Kefka and Troopers proceed to leave.) KEFKA: I truly hope nothing happens to your precious Figaro...! (Kefka and Troopers leave.) (EDGAR walks back, up to LOCKE.) LOCKE: I'd say that guy's missing a few buttons... EDGAR: ... Where's TERRA? (TERRA comes out of the throne room door.) EDGAR: Take her to her room... (EDGAR talks to TERRA.) EDGAR: I'd love to chat with you, but the Chancellor and I must plan our strategy. Sometimes I hate being a king! If you'll excuse me. (EDGAR leaves.) LOCKE: Follow me. (LOCKE walks away, and TERRA follows him to a bedroom chamber.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In the bedroom chamber.) LOCKE: Don't you worry 'bout a thing! I'll TERRA: You're LOCKE, right? EDGAR told me about you. Is it true you're a thief? LOCKE: That's TREASURE HUNTER! LOCKE: On the surface, EDGAR pretends to support the Empire. The truth is, he's collaborating with the Returners, an organization opposed to the Empire. I am his contact with that group... The old man you met in Narshe is one of us. TERRA: Empire...but I'm a soldier of the Empire...! LOCKE: That's not true! They were using you! Things are different now. TERRA: I don't understand... What should I do? LOCKE: I can't tell you what to do. You don't have to decide right now. You'll soon find your way... (LOCKE leaves.) TERRA: But how will I know which way is right... ______________________________________________________________________ (The middle of the night in EDGAR's chamber. EDGAR wakes up.) EDGAR: ...? What the...?! (EDGAR runs outside.) ______________________________________________________________________ (The castle is on fire.) EDGAR: What's happening? (Soldier) It's the Empire! It's Kefka! (Kefka and the Troopers arrive.) (EDGAR talking to a Soldier.) (Soldier) FIRE!!! (EDGAR talking to a Trooper.) (Trooper) Fire! Fire! Heh, heh, heh... (EDGAR talks to Kefka.) KEFKA: Bring me the girl. Now! EDGAR: I don't know what you're talking about! KEFKA: Then...welcome to my barbecue!! Uwa ha ha ha! (EDGAR walks up to the throne room door and talks to a Soldier.) EDGAR: Get ready...! (Soldier) Yes, Sir! (Soldier walks into the door.) KEFKA: Changed your mind...? EDGAR: I guess I have no choice... (EDGAR whistles for a three Chocobos and jumps off the side of the castle wall onto one of them.) EDGAR: Or maybe I do! KEFKA: Ackk! Shameful that a king should flee, leaving his people behind! How utterly delightful! (EDGAR takes the Chocobo around the other side of castle, where LOCKE and TERRA are waiting.) EDGAR: Jump! (LOCKE and TERRA jump onto the Chocobos as they ride past, and they proceed to ride off.) EDGAR: OK! Dive now!!! LOCKE: Yahoooo! Figaro Submergance Code Engaged! (The castle starts to pull together by itself.) CHANCELLOR: No one can touch the people of Figaro! (Chancellor lowers into the castle, and it submerges. Kefka is wiped out on the surface of the desert sands.) KEFKA: Go!! GET THEM! (Battle starts.) (If TERRA uses magic, EDGAR is surprised.) LOCKE: EDGAR, What's the matter? You look positively spooked! EDGAR: D d d d d d did you just see what I saw...? (LOCKE glances at TERRA.) LOCKE: Yeah... ...this kid seems loaded for bear...... EDGAR: She's amazing! That was magic! M A G I C ! (LOCKE is shocked.) LOCKE: M M M M M M M MAGIC?! She used magic? (EDGAR and LOCKE) Pswswswsw! pswswswsw!! EDGAR: TERRA... ...where on earth did you learn that? TERRA: ......... Sorry......I......um...... LOCKE: Look, I didn't mean to make such a big deal of this...... EDGAR: Me either......it's just that I've never actually SEEN magic before! Where did you...? TERRA: ...... LOCKE: EDGAR, TERRA can use magic, and we can't. That's the only difference between us. The fact is......we could use her help! TERRA: Thank you, LOCKE! Thank you, EDGAR! (EDGAR and LOCKE still can't get the shock out of their system.) TERRA: Stop swooning...! (Battle proceeds.) (Battle ends.) ______________________________________________________________________ EDGAR: Bravo, Figaro!!! KEFKA: Son of a submariner! They'll pay for this... (EDGAR, LOCKE and TERRA ride off.) ______________________________________________________________________ (EDGAR, LOCKE and TERRA are still riding off on their Chocobos.) LOCKE: This is great!! TERRA: Was that a bad person? I... I'm scared... EDGAR: TERRA, there's someone I'd like you to meet...! LOCKE: We're members of the Returners. EDGAR: Our mentor, Banon, would certainly like to meet you. EDGAR: "Magic" is going to be the key to winning this war. TERRA: "Magic"... EDGAR: TERRA has magical powers. That Esper seemed to react with her. Can there be some connection? TERRA: I haven't the foggiest! It just seems natural to me that I have the use of this power... EDGAR: But no HUMAN is born with the powers you seem to have, and... (TERRA stops abruptly. EDGAR and LOCKE stop, and ride back to her.) EDGAR: I apologize. TERRA: What should I do...? EDGAR I'm sure the Empire is going to come after you... If they get their hands on you again, the world's finished... TERRA, you want to understand your own powers, right? EDGAR: Then I think we need to consult with Banon. TERRA: ...... LOCKE: Please... EDGAR: OK! To the south there's a cave that leads to South Figaro. ______________________________________________________________________ (At the entrance to the tunnel.) (Soldier) King EDGAR! Where are you headed? EDGAR: Through the cave, and eastward to South Figaro. EDGAR: Return to the castle, and tell the others we're safe. (Soldier) Yes, Sir! Take care! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the lone house.) EDGAR: Hm... What's that smell...? EDGAR: Flowers... His favorite... EDGAR: These dishes! They were his favorite! EDGAR: And this... His favorite tea... EDGAR: SABIN...he was...here?! ______________________________________________________________________ (Outside the house. EDGAR sees a man.) EDGAR: What the... EDGAR: You know this guy? (Man) Of course. He left a couple of days ago after he heard Master Duncan was slan. He headed into the mountains I heard Duncan's son, Vargas, is missing as well. I have a bad feeling about this. (Man leaves.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In the tavern in South Figaro. There is a man dressed in black and a huge dog at the bar.) (Man) ... . LOCKE: At the very least you could give me a response... EDGAR: Stand back! He seems vaguely familiar... Wait a minute...! He owes allegiance to no one, and will do anything for money. He comes and goes like the wind... (Name the man.) EDGAR: That's SHADOW...! He'd skut gus mama's throat for a nickel! LOCKE: Better steer clear of him, I guess. SHADOW: Leave us. The dog eats strangers... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the basement of the tavern. A merchant is there.) (Merchant) Outta the way! I gotta get this cider over to the old man! That's my job! Now scram! (The merchant picks up a bottle of cider and leaves with it.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In the old man's house. The merchant is giving the cider to the old man.) (Merchant) I'm off work. Get lost! (Merchant goes back to the tavern.) (Old Man) I don't like strangers. Bring me some cider, and maybe I'll talk to you. ______________________________________________________________________ (In the rich man's bedroom in his house.) (Man writing.) Attack from the east. That way, (Man) ......?! Hey! Whaddaya think you're doin'? Barging in here while I'm trying to write a letter! Harumph! Oh, uh, sorry... Even a millionaire can be...startled. (Man's Wife) There's always a nasty draft in this room. Where's it coming from? ______________________________________________________________________ (On Mt. Kolts. EDGAR, LOCKE and TERRA find Vargas.) VARGAS: SABIN sent you, right? LOCKE: Who're YOU? EDGAR: SABIN? Is he here? LOCKE: You were shadowing us earlier, right? VARGAS: Brilliant! VARGAS: And how unlucky it is that you have run into me...! (Battle with Vargas begins.) VARGAS: Enough!! Off with ya now! (Voice) Give it up, VARGAS! (SABIN arrives.) VARGAS: Is that you, SABIN?! SABIN: Vargas, why'd you do it? How could you do your own father in like that?! VARGAS: Fool! He made the mistake of choosing you as his successor! He snubbed me, his only son! SABIN: No! You were the one he chose! VARGAS: You're a liar! SABIN: Our Master wanted you to be his successor, not me. He appreciated your fine spirit...... VARGAS: Enough of your lies! Now, have a taste of my superior technique! Mortal Attack! Blizzard Fist! (Everyone else but SABIN is blown away from the battle.) VARGAS: Ahh, Sabin! The master taught you well! SABIN: I guess there's no avoiding this! VARGAS: Fate made us train together, and fate will send you to your doom! VARGAS: Phew... I tire of this! (SABIN uses Pummel on VARGAS.) VARGAS: He...he taught you that one already...?! SABIN: If only you hadn't been in the rush for power... (VARGAS vanishes. The battle ends.) EDGAR: SABIN!!! SABIN: Big brother? LOCKE: The brothers are reunited! TERRA: Younger..."brother"? At first glance I thought he was some bodybuilder who had strayed from his gym... SABIN: Bodybuilder?! (SABIN laughs.) SABIN: I'll...take that as a compliment... SABIN: Anyway, brother, what are you doing here? EDGAR: We're on our way to the Sabil Mountains... SABIN: To the Returner Hideout, no doubt? SABIN: I've been watching from afar, hoping that the world might regain some sanity... At this rate, Figaro will be reduced to a puppet state. EDGAR: Our time to strike back has arrived. The Empire's going to pay for what it has done... SABIN: Think a "bear" like me could help you in your fight? EDGAR: You'd...join us? Sabin...!! SABIN: I think Duncan would rest easier if he knew his disciple played a part in bringing peace to the world. LOCKE: Let's get going! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the Returner Hideout. A man is at the entrance.) (Man) King EDGAR! This way, please! (EDGAR follows the man to a room.) (Banon's chambers.) EDGAR: Banon! We brought the girl with us. BANON: Is she the girl who can talk to Espers...?! TERRA: Espers...? EDGAR: Seemed the Empire had complete control over her. BANON: Carrier pigeons brought word that she wiped out 50 of the Emppire's best soldiers in a few minutes. TERRA: That's a lie!!! LOCKE: TERRA! EDGAR: Banon! She doesn't remember ANYTHING! BANON: Stay where you are! (Banon approaches TERRA). BANON: Perhaps you've heard this story? Once, when people were pure and innocent, there was a box they were told never to open. But one man went and opened it anyway. He unleashed all the evils of the world: envy... greed... pride... violence... control... All that was left in the box was a single ray of light: Hope. TERRA: ...... BANON: We now confront those evils... And you are that last ray of light, our only hope... EDGAR: Banon! BANON: I'm so tired... Let me rest a while. ______________________________________________________________________ (TERRA wakes up and gets out of bed. LOCKE is in the same room.) LOCKE: Someone important to me was jailed by the Empire. I've hated the Empire ever since... I joined the Returners when I realized the Empire was rotten to the core. I wanted to make a difference. TERRA: But...I have no significant "other" in my life... LOCKE: That's not entirely true. Besides, I'm sure there are people who feel YOU'RE important to them! They are counting on you... (TERRA leaves the bedroom and walks around the Hideout.) (Returner) We're a small organization now, but our membership is starting to soar. (Or if you've already talked to everyone,) Banon? He went outside a moment ago. (Returner) (If you speak to this one after talking to Banon and rejecting his offer once,) I understand your unease. But even as we speak, innocent lives are being lost... Please. We need your abilities. This relic will keep you safe. (Received Genji Glove.) We truly need your help! (Otherwise,) Please join us in our battle! (Returner) The Empire is arresting Returners everywhere. We need to discover some means of fighting back, or... SABIN: The only thing I can add is that you can trust my brother implicitly. He's always been fair with me. You can trust him, TERRA... But don't you DARE tell him I said that! (SABIN laughs.) EDGAR: It's gonna be tough to talk you into helping us... If we push too hard, we're no different than the Empire... So we want you to make up your own mind. BANON: Have you made a decision? Will you become our last ray of hope? (If you choose no, go to Sub-Scenario A. If yes, go to Sub-Scenario B.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Sub-Scenario A.) (First time you choose no,) I see... (Second time,) I thought as much... (Third time,) You're sure about this? (TERRA walks inside.) TERRA: Hope... How can anyone put their hope in me? BANON: What's going on? What happened? (A wounded man comes in and collapses.) BANON: Someone did a number on him... (Skip Sub-Scenario B and continue.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Sub-Scenario B.) (TERRA says yes.) BANON: You will? Really!! TERRA: But... I'm scared... (If TERRA accepted the Genji Glove earlier,) BANON: If everyone works together we'll be successful. (Else,) BANON: The person who possesses the relic need not fear harm. BANON: Please, Terra... I'd like you to take it with you. TERRA: What is this??? BANON: A lucky charm. Take it! (Received Gauntlet.) BANON: I have a plan! Please get everyone together! ______________________________________________________________________ (EDGAR, LOCKE, TERRA, SABIN and several Returners are at a table. Banon walks in and joins them.) BANON: Right... We all know that the Empire is using Magitek power in battle. The point is, how has the Emperor created it? EDGAR: I had LOCKE look into the rumor that the Empire is forcing the world's finest scholars to study Espers. LOCKE: All the trouble in Narshe is over an Esper, too... TERRA: You mean there's some connection between Espers and Magitek? BANON: I can only recall one thing linking Espers with Magitek power... EDGAR: You don't mean... BANON: Indeed! The ancient War of the Magi... (Man) No! (Man) It can't be! LOCKE: My Grandma used to tell me stories about magical machines... Could they have been true? EDGAR: Could that ancient tragedy be playing out once again... BANON: It's just speculation... But historical studies have provided a number of conflicted and frightening theories... According to one theory, humans and machines were imbued with powers drained from Espers... TERRA: That could explain Magitek power... EDGAR: We can only fight Magitek enemies with Magitek weapons... BANON: It's risky, but if we have TERRA...speak with that Esper, it might just wake up... EDGAR: I wonder if that's wise...? BANON: Who can say? Regardless, we need TERRA's help. (LOCKE gets up and walks over to TERRA.) LOCKE: TERRA... TERRA: I'll do it! SABIN: What nonsense! You sound as if you're enjoying this! (The front door opens.) BANON: What? What's that noise? (Man) Emergency! Sir Banon... (Man collapses.) (Man) S...South Figaro... BANON: What's going on? What happened? (Continue with the next section.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Man) S...South Figaro... E...Empire...took Figaro... Coming...this way...unnnh... BANON: They've found us... We haven't a moment to lose! EDGAR: LOCKE! LOCKE: I know... "Someone" has to sneak into South Figaro and slow the Empire down, right? EDGAR: That's right up your alley! Good luck! LOCKE: TERRA... Please wait for me... And...please...don't let a lecherous young king, who shall remain nameless, near you! EDGAR: LOCKE!!! (EDGAR huffs and pouts.) SABIN: Big brother...Aren't you EVER going to grow up? BANON: What're we going to do? EDGAR: We'll escape down the Lete River, and make our way to Narshe. I want to see that Esper for myself... BANON: Right. There's a raft by the back entrance. It's a gamble, but we're fresh out of options... (EDGAR talks to TERRA.) EDGAR: You're in danger here. Come with us to Narshe. You'll probably even gain some understanding of your abilities... BANON: We've no time to dilly-dally. Let's make for Narshe! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the back entrance. A raft is tied on the bank of the river rapids.) Here we go! This raft'll take us to Narshe! (EDGAR, TERRA, SABIN and Banon jump on.) (MOG runs out for some gameplay info.) MOG: Head toward Narshe, but protect Banon at all costs. If Banon is put out of commission, your journey's over. ______________________________________________________________________ (Further down the rapids, the raft stops. A purple octopus approaches the raft.) What? WHAT IS IT? (Battle with Ultros begins.) ULTROS: Uwee hee hee... Game over! Don't tease the octopus, kids! (Some comments that Ultros says during battle:) Seafood soup! Muscle heads...hate 'em! Yaaooouch! Seafood soup! Delicious morsel! Let me get my bib...! (The battle ends.) ULTROS: Th...that's all, friends! (Ultros dives.) SABIN: I guess we thrashed it. EDGAR: Don't bet on it...... It's probably just hiding from us...... TERRA: Ewww!! Something's stuck to my leg! EDGAR: TERRA! Over here! BANON: It's alright now. SABIN: Watch out! I'm going to hit it with a Blitz! EDGAR: No! SABIN!! SABIN: Don't distract me, brother!! (SABIN goes flying off the raft and comes down in the water.) EDGAR: He's always been a tad zealous...... TERRA: SABIN......!!! BANON: Don't worry about him! EDGAR: Are you sure he's okay, Banon? BANON: You should know better than any of us! Any moment he'll flop right onto the raft! SABIN: What the...! (SABIN comes flying out, but doesn't land on the raft.) BANON: ...... ...... EDGAR: Seems a little too perky...... Ha...! TERRA: SABIN!!!! EDGAR: SABIN!!!! Take care of yourself! (Battle background ends.) SABIN!!! (SABIN and the rest of the party are separated by the river.) ______________________________________________________________________ (MOG runs out for some gameplay info.) EDGAR and TERRA rave toward Narshe while protecting Banon... ...but what about SABIN, who was swallowed by the raging waters...? And... how is Locke faring, after having penetrated the Empire's defenses in South Figaro... Is all going according to plan...? Choose a scenario...kupo! ______________________________________________________________________ (TERRA, EDGAR and Banon's scenario.) (MOG) Fleeing the Empire's troops, Banon, EDGAR and TERRA ride rapids toward Narshe. But the going won't be easy... ______________________________________________________________________ At the gates of Narshe. (Guard) Hey, lady...didn't you just bust in here wearing Magitek Armor? BANON: Wait a sec! (Guard strikes BANON.) (Guard) Get out of here! If you don't... EDGAR: Hold on. I'm King EDGAR of Figaro... (Guard) Liar!!! (Guard strikes EDGAR.) BANONL Aye yai yai... EDGAR: That kind of attitude is deadly! He won't even listen! TERRA: It's all my fault... ______________________________________________________________________ (EDGAR, TERRA and Banon are at the secret door LOCKE used earlier.) TERRA: When LOCKE first helped me, he fiddled with something right around here. EDGAR: Knowing him there's probably some secret switch in this rock wall... (They flip the switch and the door opens.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In a column-filled mineshaft. A beam of light appears in front of the party, and follows a specific path around different columns to reach the other side.) EDGAR: Goodness... TERRA: What's that...? EDGAR: I think this's a security checkpoint. If we follow the light exactly, we'll probably be okay. If we make a mistake, the light'll surround us. To proceed safely we must "tag" the glimmering light. ______________________________________________________________________ (At the Old Man's house. EDGAR, TERRA and Banon come through the back door. Arvis (Old Man) comes.) ARVIS: Banon! King EDGAR! ...and TERRA!!! BANON: Arvis! What's happening here in Narshe? ARVIS: The town's neutral. I've tried to get the people to side with the Returners, but... Anyway, why on earth have you come here? EDGAR: First, how are your people doing? ARVIS: They all went...slightly berserk when the Esper was discovered. BANON: We believe this young woman is out only hope of reaching out to that Esper. ARVIS: My people are dying to know what the Esper looks like. Maybe TERRA can help restore some order to our town...? EDGAR: That Esper is either going to save us...or dig us an early grave... ______________________________________________________________________ (SABIN's scenario.) (MOG) What dire fate has befallen SABIN, who feel from the raft after the fight with Ultros?... ______________________________________________________________________ (At a lone house. SHADOW and his dog are standing by a well. A Merchant on a Chocobo rides up.) Who're you? (Merchant) Howdy. I own the dry goods business out here! You're not from these parts, huh? Well, no matter. (Buy stuff.) See you around. (SABIN talking to the dog. The dog reacts viciously.) Whoa... The dog just can't stand strangers. (SABIN talking to SHADOW.) SABIN: You...on a journey? I got separated from my friends. Say, can you tell me how to get to Narshe? SHADOW: Imperial Soldiers have built a base somewhere beyond this forest. SABIN: ... Already!? SHADOW: They seem to have their sights set on Doma Castle. SABIN: So Doma's next, huh? I have to reach Narshe immediately! SHADOW: Your only hope is through Doma. I'll show you the way. Just know that I may take off at any time, if I feel like it. SHADOW: The Reaper is always just a step behind me... ______________________________________________________________________ (If you meet SHADOW here for the first time, and haven't met him before in South Figaro,) SABIN: You...on a journey? I got separated from my friends. Say, can you tell me how to get to Narshe? MAN: The Empire has set up a base somewhere beyond the forest, and to the east. SABIN: ...Empire!? ...Already!? MAN: They seem to have their sights set on Doma Castle. SABIN: Doma, huh? I have to reach Narshe immediately! MAN: Your only chance is through Doma. I'll show you the way. Just know that I may take off at any time, if I feel like it. He owes allegiance to no one, and will do anything for money. He comes and goes like the wind... (Name the man.) Welcome a partner? ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside the house.) AGED MAN: Hey!!? You the clock maker? I been waitin' for ages! "Uh...no. I'm not the clock maker." AGED MAN: There it is, on the wall. Ain't been tickin' for 1, 5, shucks, maybe even 10 years! AGED MAN: Got it! Lawnmower repairman, eh? Couldn't provide worse service! Grass's 25 feet high out back! AGED MAN: No more lip, repairman! Fix that stove, on the double! (If you try to,) Yaaaouch!!!! AGED MAN: Phew! No child could be this mischievious! Child...? Ain't no child 'round here! Bolderdash! I'm ready for you to leave! Go on, git! I'm tossin' ya out onto the Veldt! (Man throws out SABIN and SHADOW.) ??? I'd rather take a stick in the eye than deal with that guy again... AGED MAN: You're here to fix my bed! It's squeakin' like all git-out! ______________________________________________________________________ (If SHADOW decides to leave after a battle,) SHADOW: My job here's over. I've earned my fee! SHADOW: Ta-ta......! (SHADOW leaves.) ______________________________________________________________________ (At the imperial base. SABIN and SHADOW hide so as not to be seen.) This's an imperial base. Too many soldiers... (Two soldiers on patrol walk by each other and stop to chat.) SOLDIER A: Hey, have you heard? SOLDIER B: Oh, you mean... SOLDIER A: Shhh! Quiet down. If Kefka catches us, we're toast. (Soldier A looks around.) SOLDIER A: If he drives General Leo out of our battalion, he'll probably become the ntext general! SOLDIER B: Don't make me laugh! If someone like him becomes a general, I'll go home! SOLDIER A: Shhhhh! What if he hears you? You'll be jailed! SOLDIER B: Alright, alright! SOLDIER B: Uh, oh... Here he comes... Back to the waiting zone! KEFKA: Hey, you! You keeping a sharp lookout? SOLDIER A: Yes, Sir. You're Kefka, correct? How are you, Sir? KEFKA: Please! Save your petty small talk! Just do your job! (Kefka walks away.) SOLDIER B: Phew...! Someone's gotta put that guy away! I'd like to tell him to his face he's no General Leo! SOLDIER A: Shhhh! Do I always have to tell you to keep it down?! You're hopeless...! SOLDIER A: ... I hate that weirdo, Kefka. I don't even think he's human, not like General Leo... SOLDIER B: Agreed. (A Commander arrives.) COMMANDER: You two! We're about to storm Doma Castle... You will join the assault team! (The Soldiers scramble.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Outside of Doma Castle.) COMMANDER: Attack! (Inside the castle.) DOMA SENTRY: It's hopeless. We can't keep them out. DOMA SENTRY: So it's finally happening... (Voice) A moment, Sir! (A man walks in.) (Man) Allow me the honor! Faithful retainer to his family's liege, with the courage and strength of a hundred men... (Name the man.) CYAN: If we can fell their commander, they'll surely give up. CYAN: Let us give it a try. (Outside the castle.) DOMA SENTRY: Sir CYAN! Let their commander have it! CYAN: I am Cyan, retainer to the King of Doma. I am your worst nightmare... (Battle with Commander.) (Soldier) The general's been defeated! Run!!! CYAN: Walled up in there, we can wait out our enemy! ______________________________________________________________________ (Back to SABIN and SHADOW, prowling through the base.) (If you hit the box,) Yeeeouch! (Soldier) Who goes there? No! A sentry! (Hides inside the box.) (Soldier) ...??? I knew I heard something... Meoooow (Soldier) Just a lousy cat... That was too close...! (But if you kick the box,) (Battle with Doberman.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Further down the base, SABIN and SHADOW have to hide again.) (Soldier) General Leo. The citizens of Doma seem to be playing a waiting game... LEO: So, that's their strategy. (Soldier) General. We're ready to take the castle. Just give the order... LEO: Patience! If we attack now, we'll have to sacrifice too many lives. (Soldier) But, General! I'm ready to lay my life down at ant time for the Empire! LEO: You're from Maranda, right? (Soldier) Y...yes, Sir. Why? LEO: And your family lives there? Fall in battle, and I'll have to deliver the bad news... What shall I saw to them? You have a life to go back to someday. Don't throw it all away for nothing. Emperor Gestahl wouldn't want that. (Soldier) Yes, Sir! (Another Soldier) General Leo! A carrier pigeon from Emperor Gestahl. LEO: What...? The Emperor summons me. I must return immediately. (Soldier) I understand, Sir. LEO: Right. I'll leave Doma in your hands. (Soldier) Yes, Sir. LEO: Okay... Just don't jump the gun. Please... (Soldier) Sir! Leave it to us, Sir! LEO: Right. So that's General Leo... He would be my friend, if he weren't my enemy... (Another scene develops in the same place, and SABIN and SHADOW have to hide again.) KEFKA: Now that Leo's gone, I'll turn this water into a flowing river of poison! LEO: The Emperor has ordered me to return home. I don't want any trouble here! KEFKA: You loser! I'll take care of this situation in no time! LEO: Don't be pompous! And DON'T forget that they are PEOPLE, just like you and me. KEFKA: We need not spare those lands that gave rise to the Returners! (Leo leaves.) KEFKA: You just go and be a good little boy...! KEFKA: Is the poison ready? (Soldier) But, General Leo said... KEFKA: He's no longer here! I'm in charge now. Pour it! (Soldier) Some of our people are prisoners inside the castle! If we poison the river... KEFKA: Do it! Take 'em all out! (SABIN and SHADOW jump out from their hiding place.) That's inhuman! KEFKA: Unh? Silence! You're history, bub... (Battle with Kefka.) KEFKA: Yeouch!! SABIN: Kefka! Wait!!! KEFKA: "Wait," he says...... Do I look like a waiter? (Battle ends.) Wait!!! Wait!!! (Battle with Kefka.) KEFKA: Ha, ha, ha! What a toad! KEFKA: Yeouch!! (Kefka talks to a Soldier.) KEFKA: Oh, gripe! Hey! If you know what's good for you... (Battle with 2 Templars and 2 Soldiers.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Kefka at the river bank.) KEFKA: Hee, hee! Nothing can beat the music of hundreds of voices screaming in unison! Uwa, ha, ha! ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside the castle.) DOMA SENTRY: Sir CYAN! The Empire's base is bustling with activity. Something must be up! CYAN: Huh? The water looks odd... (Seven posted Doma Sentries collapse and die.) DOMA SENTRY: Sir CYAN! CYAN: This is...POISON! DOMA SENTRY: What a lowdown, contemptible...! CYAN: Guard our liege! DOMA SENTRY: To the King, on the double! CYAN: Right! The King's room is near! ______________________________________________________________________ (Doma's throne room. The King is on the floor.) CYAN: Your Highness! Fear not! KING: Who's there? CYAN: CYAN, Excellency. KING: Indeed! My sight is going fast... Can't see a thing... CYAN: Excellency! Hang on! KING: CYAN... You have defended the realm since my father's days... hack, cough... Thank you... It's over... Our kingdom is through. CYAN: Not yet, Highness! KING: I fear for your family. Uhh...chest is on f...fire... CYAN: Save your strength! Don't talk! KING: Go...run to your family...hack...gasp......... CYAN: Highness!! (Doma Sentry arrives.) DOMA SENTRY: Sir CYAN! CYAN: There have to be some survivors in the castle! DOMA SENTRY: Let's split up... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the sleeping chambers. Doma Sentry is standing outside a door.) DOMA SENTRY: Sir CYAN! We're through. (CYAN walks into another room, then backs out.) CYAN: Here, too... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the chambers of CYAN's family. A woman and a boy are dead.) CYAN: Elayne! Elayne! Wake up! CYAN: This... This...can't be happening! CYAN: ! Owain... NOT YOU TOO! Son...you can't BOTH leave me! CYAN: D... Dear me... I...impossibl! WARRIOR: I am CYAN, retainer to the King of Doma! (Soldier) The enemy! Get ready, everyone! SABIN: ! (If SABIN gets in front of CYAN, SABIN is thrown aside by the exchange.) CYAN: Eeoooa! Be you friend or enemy?! SABIN: Ouuuch! ...didn't MEAN to step in there... SABIN: May I give you a hand?! CYAN: Thank you...whomever you are. (Battle.) CYAN: Ohhh! This is too much! SABIN: Let me have at it! CYAN: What a mess!! Be careful, Sir!! (Battle.) CYAN: Urghh!!! Who released this poison?! Look...we're gonna have to do this together! CYAN: But what of my home, my family...my friends? SABIN: Look... If we stick around any longer we'll have a regiment of troops down our throats. (Soldier) Got 'em! Over here! SABIN: Hoo, boy... I have a great idea... Come over here. (SABIN and CYAN run over to some suits of Magitek Armor.) CYAN: Sir SABIN! What on earth are these? SABIN: I'll explain later! Relax. Just climb in! CYAN: Sir SABIN! How might these abominations be manipulated? SABIN: I'm getting sick of this! Thou art such a pain in the...! Confound it all! I'm starting to talk like you! Now listen! Just use those levers located by your hands. (CYAN's Armor starts moving around in a fast repeating circle.) CYAN: Sir SABIN!! It is I who is in your debt! SABIN: Forget it. Now, come on! (Soldier) Hey! What are you doing? CYAN: Aaahhh! We can't stop now! (CYAN rampages his Armor through some Soldiers.) SABIN: Then let's just bust through! End of the line! (Battle.) There's nowhere to run! (Battle.) Who said anything about running?! (Battle.) (SABIN, CYAN and SHADOW return to the entrance of the base.) SABIN: Can't believe we've made it this far... Say, how do we get to Narshe from here? CYAN: Narshe, eh? Only one route, through the forest to the south. SABIN: Alright! It's decided. Let's get going! ______________________________________________________________________ (In the Phantom Forest, SABIN, CYAN and SHADOW come across a train.) CYAN: A train's here!? But I thought Doma's railway had been destroyed...? SABIN: May be survivors inside. Let's take a look. (Walking along the side of the train, SABIN sees an passenger entrance.) SABIN: Hey! We can get in right here! CYAN: Sir SABIN! SABIN: We can't just wander around out here! We have to go on board! CYAN: Sir SABIN! SABIN: Don't worry! CYAN: Sir SABIN! ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside the train.) SABIN: What on earth...? CYAN: Let me off! This train's haunted! (The train starts moving.) SABIN: I...it's moving! CYAN: If we don't get off now... (SABIN tries to open the door he came from.) SABIN: Won't open! CYAN: We're too late. SABIN: What's with this train? CYAN: This is the Phantom Train... It carries the departed to...the other side. SABIN: Wait a sec... I don't want to go THERE! CYAN: We all have to go sometime... SABIN: I have things to do HERE. We have to stop this thing. Let's make for the engine. (Finding a ghost.) SABIN: What is it? CYAN: Seems to want to come with us. (Inside the manager's office.) IMPRESARIO: I manage this train! What business have you here? Hmmm... (If you choose "Tell us about the train.",) IMPRESARIO: This train ferries the dear departed to the "other side." There they can take their eternal rest. (If you choose "How do we stop it?",) IMPRESARIO: Wanna stop the train? Just use the controls in the engineer's compartment! (At a book on the table.) CYAN: Be these time schedules? SABIN: Hmmm... They're all blank! IMPRESARIO: The Phantom Train guides "the departed onces" to the spirit world. They have no need of schedules! (At a switch on the wall.) SABIN: What's this? Let me just give it a... CYAN: Sir SABIN! Maybe we shouldn't fumble with that! (SABIN laughs and flips the switch.) SABIN: Gave it my best shot. CYAN: How can you...!? (CYAN flips the switch back.) CYAN: How could you... SABIN: CYAN... You're not...scared, are you!? CYAN: How dare you?! Just because I respect other being's property doesn't mean I'm not mechanically minded! SABIN: CYAN... You're a total klutz when it comes to machines. CYAN: SILENCE..! H...how could you tell? ______________________________________________________________________ (At a ghost vendor.) Howdy, folks. I have some great, value-priced items! ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside a far left car. Leave the car, and a ghost blocks the passage.) N.o...e.s.c.a.p.e...! (Battle.) (Outside the car.) Ha, ha, ha.. What ever did you think you were doing? Huh!? Who's there!? It came from this direction. (Ghosts are surrounding SABIN, CYAN and SHADOW from both sides.) Whoa! They're coming...! This way too! You can't escape... Nowhere to run... Nowhere to hide... You can't escape... Nowhere to run... Nowhere to hide... Bloody persistent...! (SABIN, CYAN and SHADOW climb onto the roof of the car to try to escape the ghosts.) CYAN: I believe we're stuck! SABIN: I know! CYAN: You have an idea? SABIN: Okay... The time has come to see if all my training has paid off. Come, CYAN! SABIN: Yahoooo!! (SABIN jumps across several cars, supposedly taking the other two with him. :) He breaks through the roof of one of the cars, falling down.) Hey... Uh, oh...? (A ghost is seen on the roof of the trailing car.) Bloody persistent...! We have to detach the rear train cars! (Go in and flip the switch. The trailing cars are detached and slow down.) Can't follow us now. ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside the dining car. SABIN sits at the table.) SABIN: Food! Food! Bring me everything ya got! CYAN: A...are you going to be okay if you eat THIS? SABIN: Worried? Can't wage war on an empty stomach! CYAN: Hummm... Sir! I won't hear any more of this kind of talk! Gobble... snarf... snap... SABIN: Well! I've stuffed down all I can... Let's go! (If SHADOW eats at the table,) SHADOW: ...... As a treasure chest is about to be opened,) (Voice) Stop where you are! (Man) I am Ziegfried, the world's greatest swordsman! That treasure chest is mine. If I were you, Ox, I'd grab grandpa, here, and run! SABIN: You look more like a manicurist. Now SCRAM!!! (Battle with Siegfried.) ZIEGFRIED: Aha! The ox bellows! Allow me to introduce my blade! (Siegfried strikes several times with very weak blows.) ZIEGFRIED: Go! Guys!! Ha, ha, ha! Give up? (Battle ends.) What a bag of wind... SIGFRIED: Impossible! I...I'm the greatest... But I still laugh last! SIGFRIED: Uwa, ha, ha! This treasure is mine! Ta ta, cretins! ______________________________________________________________________ (At one point, if there is a ghost in the party, it decides to leave.) Shall we be off? I guess we're on our own now... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the engineer's room.) This is the engineer's room. Gotta stop this thing...! (On the counter,.) Something's written here! What? What? To stop the train, shut the first and third pressure valves, and operate the switch outside, near the smoke stack. ______________________________________________________________________ (By the smoke stack.) Press this switch and the train'll stop. (The switch is flipped. The train roars.) PHANTOM TRAIN: So! You've been slowing my progress! (Battle with GhostTrain.) PHANTOM TRAIN: I will let you go... ...but first there is something I must do... ______________________________________________________________________ (The train has stopped.) CYAN: Hulp...where are we? (SABIN, CYAN and SHADOW exit the car.) SABIN: Hoo, boy! Finally got off... SABIN: We shouldn't be here. Let's go NOW! (People to the far right are boarding the train.) CYAN: No!!! Elayne! Owain!! SABIN: CYAN! Is that your wife and child? (The train starts the leave.) Departing?! CYAN: Please, wait! (CYAN knocks SABIN off the plank while running toward Elayne and Owain. SHADOW dives down to save him.) CYAN: Elayne! Owain... (Elayne) My love... You made me so happy. Don't forget me... (Owain) Dad! I'll make sure Mom's alright! (The train leaves. CYAN stands at the edge of the plank.) SHADOW: Leave 'em alone. CYAN: ...... ______________________________________________________________________ (At Baren Falls.) SABIN: This must be Baren Falls. CYAN: To the south is the Veldt. Dangerous creatures there. SABIN: And the Empire's right on our tails. CYAN: If we can slip through the Veldt, we can reach the town of Mobliz, to the east... SHADOW: I have served my purpose... SABIN: Shadow! SABIN: Thanks for your help! Let's join ranks again some time! (SABIN and CYAN jump over the falls.) (Battle while falling.) ______________________________________________________________________ (At the bottom of Baren Falls. A boy comes and inspects SABIN and CYAN.) (Letter) I can't get used to imperial troopers walking the streets of Maranda, but otherwise things are okay. Flowers are blooming in the garden, telling me spring is here. How are you doing? I'm so worried. I wish I could fly to your side! Rest, and know that I think about you constantly. Come back to me. Lola (Man) I'd like to write her back, but I can't even pick up a pen. He finds the underwater breathing apparatus.) CYAN: Is this it? GAU's "treasure"? GAU: Treasure...yesss... CYAN: Looks like glass... SABIN: Looks like it just might fit... SABIN: Hummm... Is it of any use? Will this really let us breathe underwater? SABIN: Let's go! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the entrance of the Serpent Trench.) CYAN: Current's...fast. SABIN: No kidding. But unless we hop in, we won't see our friends again... SABIN: Let's go! (SABIN and CYAN jump in. GAU hesitates, then jumps in. The Serpent Trench takes them to Nikeah.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In Nikeah's tavern.) (Woman) Ya met that odd man, lives near Lete River? His wife bore 'm a son thirteen years ago. It was a problem birth, and the woman passed away. The man totally lost it. He thought the newborn was a monster. Wonder what happened to the poor little baby? (Woman) There used to be ships sailing to the southern continent. Tzen, Albrook, Maranda... They've all been smashed. (Talk to the woman standing,) (Woman) Yoo hoo! You handsome thing. How 'bout joining me? Tee hee! CYAN: H...how dare you...you licentious howler! (Woman) Geez, don't blow an artery, baby! CYANL B...baby?! SABIN: CYAN... Don't let it get to you. CYAN: I'm not like that! SABIN: No one thinks you are. Just let it go. (Woman) Stop whispering! My ears are burnin' baby! CYAN: Enough! Have you no shame? I'll have you know...etc...etc. (Woman) Goodness! ______________________________________________________________________ (On the ferry to Narshe.) CYAN: Narshe is just a stone's throw away! SABIN: I hope the others arrived safely! CYAN: I'm sure they did. GAU: Me hope so, too... ______________________________________________________________________ (LOCKE's scenario.) (MOG) LOCKE has worked hard to stymie the efforts of the imperial troops. But now he desperately needs to escape... ______________________________________________________________________ (LOCKE runs and hides from a Trooper behind a house. The Trooper gives up and returns to his post. (Inside Duncan's wife's house.) (Duncan's Wife) I'm sure there's a hidden passage under the rich man's house. Find the room that's drafty. (Talk to any Merchant.) MERCHANT: You're that thief, LOCKE, aren't you? LOCKE: Hey! Call me treasure hunter, or I'll rip your lungs out! (Battle with Merchant.) (If LOCKE steals Merchant's clothing, Merchant becomes B.Day Suit. LOCKE puts on his clothes.) LOCKE: Here we go! These are a little tight, but the price was right. (Merchant) Wh...whew!! (Merchant) Sorry! (Man) Avoid the armored soldiers! They have no sense of humor! (Old Man) I don't like strangers. Bring me some cider, and maybe I'll talk to you. (Boy) My grandfather was a servant for the richest man in town. (If LOCKE is not a Merchant,) Only people dressed as Merchants may pass through. (Else,) Merchant, right? You may proceed. (Man) Imperial soldiers are pigs! Green Suits live to brawl... (Boy) Lower ranking soldiers like to brawl. Try humiliating them by stealing their clothes! (If LOCKE steals Soldier's clothing, Soldier becomes B.Day Suit. LOCKE puts on his uniform.) LOCKE: Here we go! These are little too big, but they'll do. (Trooper With Magitek Armor) That clown, Kefka, is on the verge of invading Narshe. (Trooper) A detached force is making its way toward Narshe. We'll link up with them soon. (Trooper) Time's up? Good! I'll take a break! (Trooper) Never a dull moment... Time to guard the passage under the big mansion... Oh, well. Life is tough... (Trooper) I heard there are two secret tunnels under the rich man's house. One leads out of town, the other to one of these houses... (Trooper) I heard they grabbed a famous general who turned traitor! She's locked up somewhere in this town. (Merchant With Cider) Hey you! Come to steal my cider! You thief! (Battle with Merchant.) Took the old man's cider! (Old Man) Ah! Cider! Glug, glug, ... Huh? Secret passage? Well, there is one that leads to the rich man's house. Go downstairs and give my grandsom the password. It's...uh, um... I forget! (Boy) The password is... (Choose anything besides "courage",) You're an imperial spy! Can't fool me! (Boy beats up LOCKE. He wakes up outside.) LOCKE: Ouch!! I gotta steal me some new clothes, fast!! (Else,) Secret entrance. (Boy opens the door.) Good luck! ______________________________________________________________________ (Inside the rich man's house.) (Woman) The imperial troops have turned this house into their headquarters. (Trooper) Thanks to our informer, this town fell instantly! (Rich Man) Oh, what have I done?! I betrayed the town, and I didn't even need the money! ______________________________________________________________________ (In the basement. LOCKE looks through the window of one of the doors.) LOCKE: I've seen her before... Of course! She's one of the Empire's generals! (A Guard is striking a woman, who is chained to the wall.) (Guard) This's what happens to traitors! Product of genetic engineering, battle-hardened Magitek Knight, with a spirit as pure as snow... (Name the woman.) (Guard) So, the mighty CELES has fallen! CELES: How can you serve those cowards... (Guard) Hold your tongue! CELES: Isn't it true that Kefka's going to poison the people of Doma, to the east? (Guard) Shuddap! (Guard strikes CELES again, and she collapses.) (Guard) I'd hate to be in your shoes tomorrow! (Guard talks to the other Guard.) (Guard) Keep a close eye on her! (Other Guard) Yes, Sir! I can go for days without sleep! (Guard leaves. LOCKE is hiding up in the raftors. LOCKE enters. The Guard left to watch CELES has fallen asleep. LOCKE unshackles CELES.) (If LOCKE is dressed as a Soldier,) CELES: You're awfully short for a soldier... LOCKE: Oops! Forgot I was wearing these clothes. (Or if a Merchant,) CELES: What do you hope to peddle down here? LOCKE: Oops! Forgot I was wearing these clothes. (Or if dressed normally,) CELES: And you are...? LOCKE: I'm with the Returners. Name's LOCKE. CELES: Returners!!! I used to be General CELES... Now I'm just a common traitor... LOCKE: Let's go! CELES: !? You'd take me along? CELES: Thanks, but no thanks. I can barely walk... (CELES tries to take a few steps.) CELES: I'm grateful, but... Even if you got me out, you'd never be able to protect me. No, I think I'm better off here. LOCKE: I'll protect you! LOCKE: Trust me! You'll be fine! (LOCKE winks.) LOCKE: Let's go! CELES: Wait. This soldier has something important on him... (LOCKE searches the Guard.) There's a clock key in his pocket... Took the clock key! (Guard jumps up, scaring LOCKE.) (Guard) ...'n some bread, too... Mumble mumble... ...more soup 'n... (If you try to go back upstairs, CELES stops LOCKE.) CELES: This passage leads out. ______________________________________________________________________ (At the end of the catacomb.) CELES: Why are you helping me? LOCKE: You remind me of someone... LOCKE: But what's it matter, anyway? I just want to, okay?! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the end of the cave to Figaro.) LOCKE: Huh? CELES: Something's coming outta the wall!! (Battle starts.) CELES: TunnelArmr! I'll draw its magic attack. It won't hurt us. LOCKE: Come again?! CELES: I can simply absorb the attack with my Runic Blade. LOCKE: Are you sure you'll be okay?! CELES: Just you watch!! (Battle ends.) LOCKE: Whew!!! Looks like we're in the clear! ______________________________________________________________________ (MOG) The three have reached Narshe, and a decisive battle is about to take place... ______________________________________________________________________ (At Narshe's Elder's home. Elder, Arvis, Banon, EDGAR and TERRA are there.) ELDER: I understand all of it... Except... How can WE be encouraging bloodshed? ARVIS: I never said...that! ELDER: Something like it. BANON: He's right, you know. ARVIS: Banon! BANON: Our blood will spill because of you. BANON: Emperor Gestahl's racing to acqure Magitek power. He's set his sights on the Esper that was found here! The increased use of Magitek power'll surely lead to global destruction... ELDER: The War of the Magi... The mythical battle that set mankind back a thousand years. Can this really be happening? Peoplw will never learn... (SABIN, CYAN and GAU arrive.) SABIN: Brother! (They walk in.) EDGAR: SABIN! You're alright! (SABIN nods.) EDGAR: Who's with you? CYAN: I'm CYAN, retainer to the lord of Doma! GAU: GAU...GAU! SABIN: The people of Doma were wiped out by the Empire... CYAN: Kefka poisoned...everyone... ELDER: Barbaric! BANON: Elder! ELDER: But...that was only because Doma was collaborating with the Returners! If we make that mistake... (LOCKE and CELES arrive.) LOCKE: That's nonsense!! TERRA: LOCKE! LOCKE: The Empire's poised to attack Narshe right now! EDGAR: What?! BANON: LOCKE. Where'd you hear that? LOCKE: CELES, here, was one of the Empire's generals... CYAN: Grrr! I knew she seemed familiar. Sir GAU, out of my way! (CYAN tosses GAU to side, and GAU almost hits TERRA.) CYAN: This's General CELES! She torched Maranda! She's an Imperial spy! Now, stand aside! (LOCKE stands between CELES and CYAN.) LOCKE: Wait! CELES has joined the Returners! She's fighting with us, now! CYAN: But...! LOCKE: I promised I'd protect her. I WILL NOT back out on my word. EDGAR: LOCKE... Are you still thinking about...that? TERRA: I was also an Imperial soldier. CYAN: WHAT!! EDGAR: The Empire's evil. But not ALL of its citizens are! SABIN: Oh, this is... (A Guard runs in.) (Guard) Emergency!! The Empire cometh!! (Everyone is shocked.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Outside of Narshe. Kefka is accompanying a troop of soldiers on their way to the city.) KEFKA: I don't care what you do here, JUST GET ME THAT ESPER!! (Soldier) Lord Kefka! There're civilians here...! KEFKA: Exterminate everyone! (Soldier) But Narshe is neutral... KEFKA: Idiot!! Read my lips!! Dispose of all who oppose us! March! ______________________________________________________________________ (Back in the Elder's home.) ELDER: We really have no choice. Let's make ready for war! BANON: They're after the Esper. ELDER: We moved it into the hills. EDGAR: Then we're going up after it! ______________________________________________________________________ (On their way to the Esper, EDGAR stops to talk to CELES.) EDGAR: LOCKE has a complicated past. I wouldn't want to think he's fallen for you or something. CELES: I'm a soldier, not some love-starved twit! EDGAR: Cold as ice... (Further up, CELES stops to talk to TERRA.) CELES: So, you were born with the power of magic!? Isn't it a lovely gift... TERRA: You...can use magic, too? CELES: When I was a baby I was artificially infused with magic, and raised as a Magitek Knight. TERRA: Have you...loved anyone? CELES: ??? What's that supposed to mean?! (Further, CYAN stops to talk to CELES.) CYAN: Don't think for a moment I trust you! CELES: Fine. Use your own eyes, then decide. ______________________________________________________________________ (A battle with Kefka's forces proceeds. After Kefka is defeated,) KEFKA: Don't think you've won. Aack!! I won't forget this! (Battle ends. Kefka escapes.) EDGAR: Where's the Esper? LOCKE: Is it okay? ______________________________________________________________________ (Up on the clifftop, at the Esper.) EDGAR: That was a close call! CYAN: Can it still be alive? SABIN: Impossible...right? LOCKE: TERRA!! What is it? TERRA: Nooo!! (TERRA and the Esper become fixed on each other.) SABIN: TERRA ;n the Esper... EDGAR: There's...some kinda reaction! TERRA: What!? What am I feeling?! Huh? W... ...what's going on... ...? Please... ...tell me! Who am I? WHO?! LOCKE: TERRA! CELES: An Esper... ...I can actually feel its mind...... EDGAR: TERRA...... Step away from the Esper... (TERRA and the Esper interact, and TERRA turns bright pink. She starts spinning, then flies off screaming.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In Arvis's home. LOCKE is in bed.) LOCKE: Unhh... CELES: You're awake? LOCKE: ... Where's TERRA?! CELES: She changed into a...something, and...took off. She looked like... She looked like...an Esper... EDGAR: LOCKE! You okay? EDGAR: Something happened to TERRA... There seems to be some connection between Espers and her... Anyway, we need to find her. Witnesses saw her screaming across the sky to the west. LOCKE: Let's go! I promised her I'd... CELES: LOCKE... EDGAR: Think, people! The Empire still wants that Esper. SABIN: Banon needs our help, too... CYAN: A former Imperial soldier... But we've no choice. We must help her! EDGAR: Let's split up. Those who aren't searching for TERRA will stay and guard Narshe. Figaro Castle can shuttle us to the western province. Then we'll make for Kohlingen or Jidoor. (The party splits up. The player is allowed to choose to take up to four out of LOCKE, CYAN, EDGAR, SABIN, CELES and GAU.) ______________________________________________________________________ (If EDGAR and SABIN come along and arrive at Figaro Castle,) SABIN: This's like old times! I have to wander around for a while! (Once you go to bed, a scene unfolds at night. SABIN is in the throne room.) SABIN: Hmm... Castle hasn't changed much... SABIN: And yet it's all different... Mom and Dad are gone... Everyone's gone... Since that day... (Flashback starts.) Tonight took a turn for the worse. No...he can't be dead! Matron, the King's... EDGAR: SABIN! (SABIN runs, and EDGAR chases him. SABIN sits on the steps outside.) SABIN: I can't believe it he's... (EDGAR arrives.) SABIN: B...brother... Waa, ahhh, ahhh... EDGAR: So... They went and told you... (Matron arrives.) MATRON: Edgar! Here you are... Your father... He just uttered his last wish that Figaro be divided between you... SABIN: This is NONSENSE!! Everyone's saying that the Empire poisoned Dad... And the only thing on your minds is "Who's going to be the next king?!" You're all pathetic! SABIN: No one cared when Mom passed away, either... MATRON: That's not... SABIN: You were as bad as any of 'em! EDGAR: SABIN... SABIN: Empire of murderers... They won't get away with this! EDGAR: Matron... Please leave us. (Up on the lookout tower.) SABIN: I'm outta here! I'm forsaking this war-sick realm for my dignity and freedom. You said you were sick of it too, right?! EDGAR: ...freedom... EDGAR: What'll happen to this realm if we both leave? And what would Dad say...? EDGAR: SABIN, let's settle whis with a toss of a coin. If it's heads, you win. We'll choose whichever path we want, without any regrets. Okay? EDGAR: This is for Dad! (EDGAR throws the coin high in the air. The flashback ends.) EDGAR: And then, you opted for your freedom. (EDGAR comes out from around the corner.) EDGAR: It's been...ten years. The little shrimp's grown into a whopping lobster SABIN: And you're a king crab! EDGAR: SABIN... I often wonder if he'd be proud of me... SABIN: Don't you ever doubt that! EDGAR: Ten years... SABIN: Where has the time gone...? EDGAR: Here's to a couple of confused grownups! EDGAR: Here's to Dad... SABIN: ...to Mom... ...and to Figaro. ______________________________________________________________________ (In Kohlingen's inn, SHADOW is sitting at a table. If you sleep at the inn, four dream sequences can play out.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Dream One. Clyde stands in the dark.) BARAM: Clyde...I'm...done for BARAM: Find me here BARAM: Please Clyde ______________________________________________________________________ (Dream Two. Clyde and Baram are in the Phantom Forest.) BARAM: Yahoooo! We did it, Clyde! CLYDE: A million GP! What a blast! I love this! BARAM: Guess it's time to change our name. CLYDE: Our name? BARAM: We need something more...appropriate. BARAM: Such as...? BARAM: ...SHADOW! Not bad, huh? CLYDE: Great train robbers of the century...SHADOW...? ______________________________________________________________________ (Dream Three. Clyde and Baram are at the bottom of Barren Falls, and Baram is wounded.) CLYDE: Open your eyes! BARAM: I'm scared...hack, cough... Is...is this MY blood...? CLYDE: You're gonna be okay! BARAM: I've let you down... I'm sorry... CLYDE: Save your strength. We're almost to a town. BARAM: You don't have to pretend. I know. I've lost...too much blood. BARAM: Get going! I'm gonna slow you down. CLYDE: But...! BARAM: You wanna get caught? (Clyde starts to leave.) BARAM: Before you go... You have to use your knight... CLYDE: WHAT!!!! BARAM: Think what they'll do to me if I get caught. I don't want to go through that. Do me this favor. BARAM: Are you...shaking? I can't believe it! You're acting like a coward! Come on, you weakling! Grab the knife and... CLYDE: I CAN'T! BARAM: Clyde!!! CLYDE: I'm sorry... (Clyde runs away, leaving Baram on the river bank.) BARAM: Clyde! How dare you!? ______________________________________________________________________ (Dream Four. Clyde is in a strange town. A woman approaches him with a large dog.) (Woman) Hey...HEY! Stay with me now! CLYDE: Where...am...? (Woman) A small village called Thama... Hang in there! (Clyde follows the woman.) ______________________________________________________________________ (If you visit the empty house in Kohlingen with LOCKE,) LOCKE: ...wasn't able to...save her when she needed me... (Flashback begins. LOCKE and Rachel are at Mt. Kolts.) RACHEL: LOCKE! What are we off to find today? LOCKE: Soon, you'll... LOCKE: You're not going to believe what awaits us up here! Come on, it's worth a fortune! (LOCKE steps on a bridge, and it begins to collapse underneath him.) RACHEL: LOCKE! Look out! (Rachel pushes LOCKE off the bridge, but then falls.) LOCKE: Rachel!! (LOCKE jumps down to save Rachel.) (Back at Rachel's home in Kohlingen.) LOCKE: Rachel! Are you awake? RACHEL: ... ......? I...I can't remember anything... (LOCKE is surprised.) (Outside of Rachel's home. LOCKE is kicked out forcefully.) RACHEL'S DAD: Get outta here! It's your fault she's lost her memory! LOCKE: Wait a minute! She said "Yes!" We were gonna... RACHEL: Go! I don't know who you are, but ever since you came here my parents have been upset! (A friend arrives.) (Man) You'd best leave Rachel alone. She's going to have to make a new start of it. LOCKE... Your being here doesn't help. (End flashback.) LOCKE: A year passed... When I returned here, I learned that Rachel had perished in an Imperial attack. Her memory returned just before she passed away. The last thing she uttered was...my name... I never should have left her side. I...I failed her... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the basement of LOCKE's home. A very weird man is watching over Rachel, who is laying on a bed.) (Man) Oh! Is that you, LOCKE? It's been a while! Uh? Oh, that?! Worry not! Your treasure's quite safe! Uwa, ha, ha! (Man) I used some herbs to put her into suspended animation. She won't age a day! Uwaa, ha! That's what you wanted, right? Had to use my herbs, I did! (Flashback begins. Same location.) LOCKE: Rachel... LOCKE: You mean those herbs have actually saved her? (Man) Of course! The love of your life will sleep here like this forever. Kwa, ha, ha! LOCKE: What if there were some way to...call her back? (Man) If you could call her back...she'd come back! Wah, ha, ha! I'm sure you'll find something that'll bring her around! Kuha, ha, ha!! (Flashback ends.) LOCKE: I...failed her... (Everyone walks back upstairs.) (If CELES is in the party too, she'll come downstairs again.) CELES: LOCKE... ______________________________________________________________________ (Up in Zozo Tower. TERRA is found, but she's asleep.) TERRA? TERRA? (TERRA leaps out of bed, and jumps around disoriented.) RAMUH: She's scared, you know. (An old man appears out of nowhere.) "Who're you?" RAMUH: This girl is your friend? "Is TERRA alright?" RAMUH: You call her TERRA... ...TERRA?? How odd... RAMUH: She is undamaged. But I fear she can't understand you. As for me, I am Ramuh. The Esper, Ramuh. ESPER!? "But don't Espers live in another world?" RAMUH: That doesn't mean we don't live here, too. Espers take a variety of forms. Sometimes we live here, taking the shape of humans. You have nothing to fear from us. "Why do you hide the fact that you're Espers?" RAMUH: Humans and Espers can't survive together. LOCKE: But my grandma told me that Espers and people once lived side by side! Was that just a fairy tale? RAMUH: No, that was no fairy tale. That was true. We started out as friends. Then along came the War of the Magi... War of the Magi... RAMUH: It took place...long ago. Espers fought humans who were infused with magical powers extracted from Espers... Fearing our magical powers would once again become a target, we fashioned a new realm, and moved there. [NOTE: I apologize for not getting down the clip from this point right here; I couldn't transcribe the script fast enough. But it talks about how humans stumbled over the realm, and started hunting for Espers, and about Gestahl's ambition.] RAMUH: In response to this, we erected a doorway, and threw the humans out. Even as we speak, many of my kind are trapped in the Empire's Magitek Research Facility, being... ...drained of their powers... I fled here to avoid a similar fate. (The party carries TERRA back to her bed. RAMUH: That's right, relax. RAMUH: I sensed that TERRA was in trouble. My magic...summoned her here. "TERRA's an...Esper?" RAMUH: No, she's actually quite different. "TERRA looks like she's in pain." RAMUH: Her very existance strikes fear into her own heart. "How can we help her?" RAMUH: When she accepts this aspect of herself, I think she'll be alright. "We have to do something!" RAMUH: Then free those of my kind imprisoned in Gestahl's Magitek Research Facility. One of them can surely help her. "If we find the Magitek Research Facility, you're sure we'll find your people?" RAMUH: Like a coward, I escaped leaving the others there. It'll be the end of them... "What do you mean?" RAMUH: Gestahl's methods are incorrect. You can't drain a live Esper of all its power. It is only when we are reduced to Magicite that our abilities can be transferred in total... "Pardon?" RAMUH: When we transform into Magicite, our power can be relocated. "Magicite...?!" RAMUH: That's what's left of us when we...pass away. (Ramuh reveals three Magicite stones.) RAMUH: These are my comradfes who fell while escaping the Empire. And I will give you my power, as well... (Ramuh turns to Magicite, lighting up the room.) "Old man... Are you really gone...?" "Magicite...?" "He traded his power, so that others might live..." "TERRA wait for us. We'll be back!" (Talking to Ramuh's Magicite.) "Why are you doing this..." RAMUH: We few can help save many. The War of the Magi must not be repeated... (Received the Esper "Ramuh".) (Received the Esper "Kirin". Received the Esper "Siren". Received the Esper "Stray".) At the bottom of the room, the rest of the party left behind in Narshe is waiting.) "Let's talk on the way." ______________________________________________________________________ (On the way down Zozo Tower.) (EDGAR is talking to CYAN.) EDGAR: The Empire is trying to drain magic from Espers. (SABIN is talking to CELES.) SABIN: This can't be true... CELES CELES: I don't remember because I was asleep when they...augmented me. But I've heard rumors to that effect. (At the entrance of Zozo.) CYAN: Then we're going in... EDGAR: We'd best split into two groups. We stil need to beef up our defense in Narshe. CYAN: Indeed. CELES: I'll go to the Empire. I know it well... SABIN: But alone...? LOCKE: Don't worry, I'll go with her. CELES: LOCKE! CYAN: You need a hand? SHADOW: There's no need for me to remain with you. (SHADOW leaves.) LOCKE: Please wait for us in Narshe. We'll find our way back safely. CYAN: If you wish to change group members, head for Narshe. (The remaining unchosen party members leave.) CELES: So...how we gonna get there? The Empire's on the continent to the south. No boats go there... LOCKE: The peopl of Jidoor, a town to the south, can probably help us. CELES: LOCKE. LOCKE: Yes? CELES: Why are you coming with me? LOCKE: Well... There's bound to be treasures there. And besides, I've always wanted an inside look at the Empire! [NOTE: The following parts of the script also contain additional lines by other characters, depending if you brought them along or not. I don't have the scripts to these characters (except for a few parts), but I do know that CYAN, EDGAR, SABIN and GAU do have their own lines every now and then.] ______________________________________________________________________ (In Owzer's home in Jidoor, a man is pacing left and right.) IMPRESARIO: Maria!? CELES: Are you talking to me? IMPRESARIO: Sorry...my mistake. Wow, you could pass for Maria in a heartbeat! Hoo boy, now I really am in trouble... (Impresario leaves.) CELES looks like Maria...? (A man is at the entrance of Owzer's home.) (Man) You're the spittin' image of Maria! Huh? Haven't you heard of her? She's a famous opera singer! That PERSON dropped it off. He's the directory of operas here. Everyone just calls him "Impresario." He's been in a tizzy since that letter arrived. (Letter) "My Dear Maria, I want you for my wife. I'm coming for you... The Wandering Gambler" LOCKE: Who's this "Wandering Gambler"...? (Man) You born on a farm, son? (Shows a man piloting an airship.) A black jack-playing, world-traveling casino-dwelling free spirit... (Name the man.) (Man) SETZER! The owner of the world's only airship. CELES: If we could get that airship, we'd make the Empire in no time. LOCKE: Let's set up a meeting...with SETZER... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the Opera House.) IMPRESARIO: Ah! You again! LOCKE: I read that letter. SETZER's coming to steal her... IMPRESARIO: He'll probably appear right at the climax of Scene I. He loves an entrance... LOCKE: Right! If we could only grab him then...! IMPRESARIO: Dear me, NO! You'll ruin the performance! I'll lose my job! CELES: Then you're history! IMPRESARIO: This is simply horrid! I want the performance to be a success! But I don't want Maria to be abducted...! LOCKE: We'll let him grab her... (Impresario is puzzled.) LOCKE: We'll use CELES as a decoy. After she's abducted, I'll follow 'em right to his airshiP! IMPRESARIO: Are you mad?!! If something should happen to Maria... LOCKE: That's why the decoy! We'll hide Maria somewhere safe! IMPRESARIO: Come again? LOCKE: You said SHE looks like Maria, right? CELES: Now just a minute... LOCKE: CELES will be out Maria! She'll lead us to the airship! IMPRESARIO: Brilliant! CELES: W...wait! (CELES goes ballistic.) CELES: I'm a GENERAL, not some opera floozy! (CELES runs into Maria's room and shuts the door.) CELES: Mii... Mii... Do, re, mi... Faa...hack, cough... Maa... rii... aaaa (LOCKE laughs.) LOCKE: Not bad, CELES! (Ultros is not far away.) ULTROS: Mwa, ha, ha! I'll pretend to be SETZER and foil their little plan! (Ultros throws out a letter, landing near the party.) CELES: Let's get ready! LOCKE: It's showtime! (They enter Maria's room, not noticing the letter.) ULTROS: D'haaaaa! Come on! Read it...! ______________________________________________________________________ (The play begins. Impresario comes out to narrate.) The West and East were waging war... Draco, the West's great hero, thinks of his love, Maria Is she safe? Is she waiting? (Draco comes out, and is run over by Chocobos. He gets back up.) DRACO Oh Maria Oh Maria Please, hear my voice! How I long to be with you! (In the audience.) LOCKE: I'm going to the dressing room. IMPRESARIO: Is everything okay? ______________________________________________________________________ (In Maria's room. CELES is in costume.) LOCKE: Aye yai yai! Izzat...you!? CELES: LOCKE. Why did you hlp me escape back there? LOCKE: I...once abandoned someone when she needed me... CELES: Somewhere inside you were saving...her, weren't you...? LOCKE: That ribbon suits you. CELES: On with the show! This is the big scene in which Maria senses that something's happened to Draco! LOCKE: You'd better check the score one last time. ______________________________________________________________________ (Aria de Mezzo Caraterre.) The forces of the West fell, and Maria's castle was taken. Prince Ralse, of the East, took her hand by force, but she never stopped yearning for Draco... (CELES is standing on the set in costume, playing the part of Maria, and singing.) Oh my hero, so far away now. Will I ever see your smile? Love goes away, like night into day. It's just a fading dream. I'm the darkness, you're the stars. Our love is brighter than the sun. For eternity, for me there can be, Only you, my chosen one... Must I forget you? Our solemn promise? Will autumn take the place of spring? What shall I do? I'm lost without you. Speak to me once more! (Draco appears and dances with Maria.) DRACO: Come, Maria. Follow my lead. (Draco then vanishes. Maria walks up some stairs, holding a bouquet of flowers.) ...We must part now, my life goes on. But my heart won't give you up. Ere I walk away, let me hear you say I meant as much to you.... So gently, you touched my heart. I will be forever yours. Come what may, I won't age a day, I'll wait for you, always... (Maria throws the bouquet of flowers over the balcony.) ______________________________________________________________________ [NOTE: I apologize again but I couldn't get the rest of the opera up to Ultros's scene. There wasn't enough time to transcribe it.] (LOCKE outside Maria's room. He noticed Ultros's letter.) (Letter) I owe you one, so I'm gonna jam up your opera! Ultros LOCKE: Uh oh... Better tell the Impresario! (In the audience.) IMPRESARIO: What!!!? IMPRESARIO: But how might he disrupt the opera? ...With that?! (Shows Ultros and a 4-ton weight up on the catwalk above the stage.) ULTROS: Mwa ha ha! Let's see if Maria can shurg THIS off! (Ultros tries to push.) ULTROS: N'ghaaa! This is heavier than I thought! It's take me five minutes to drop it! (Back in the audience.) LOCKE: We haven't a second to lose! IMPRESARIO: Talk to the man in the room to the far right! He'll help you get up there! LOCKE: I's as good as done! ______________________________________________________________________ (Up on the catwalk, when the party reaches Ultros.) ULTROS: Phew... Rats! (Ultros and the party clash, and they all fall down onto the stage, falling on the actors playing Draco and Prince Ralse. Impresario comes onto the stage in horror.) IMPRESARIO: Disaster! If the two heroes are flattened, the opera's over! Then who'll win the girl?! (LOCKE gets an idea.) LOCKE: Neither Draco nor Ralse will save CELES! I, LOCKE, the world's premier adventurer, will save her! IMPRESARIO: Aya... What awful acting! ULTROS: Silence! You are in the presence of octopus royalty! A lowborn thug like you could never defeat me! IMPRESARIO: Hmm... Might as well make the most of this. MUSIC!! (Battle with Ultros begins.) ULTROS: Long time no see! You've changed! Did ya miss me? (When Ultros is defeated,) (Ultros) What an unlucky day! Adios! (Ultros vanishes, leaving the party with 2 GP. Battle ends.) Voice) Just a darn minute! What a performance!! IMPRESARIO: SETZER! SETZER: I'm a man of my word, music man! CELES: That's HIM...?! (SETZER snatches CELES and rises away with her. The others are gone too. Impresario is alone on the stage.) IMPRESARIO: What a reversal! Thinking she's LOCKE's new queen, Maria is instead nabbed by SETZER! What fate lies in store for her! Stay tuned for Part II! ______________________________________________________________________---------- (In a room in SETZER's airship, the Blackjack. CELES is thrown through the door and it closes.) SETZER: I'll deal with you in a minute! (CELES winks. She walks over to the opening in the floor, and LOCKE and the rest of the party jump up from it.) LOCKE: What a performance! CELES: Enough already! LOCKE: But this is the tough one! Part II begins now! LOCKE: ... Where's SETZER? CELES: He's coming. (SETZER runs into the room.) SETZER: W...who're YOU? You're not Maria! CELES: SETZER, we need your help. We have to go to Vector. We need this ship to get there. SETZER: Look, if you're not Maria, I don't want you aboard. CELES: Wait! We were told your ship is the finest vessel in the world. LOCKE: And that you were the world's most notorious gambler... (If EDGAR is there,) EDGAR: I'm King EDGAR of Figaro. If you cooperate, you'll be well rewarded. SETZER: Come here. CELES: Yeah... SETZER: Don't misunderstand me. I'm still not sure if I'm going to help you. ______________________________________________________________________ (In a different part of the Blackjack.) SETZER: Phew... The Empire's made me a rich man. CELES: Stop thinking of yourself. Many towns and villages have been smashed by the Empire. LOCKE: The Empire's also totally rotten! It's using magic to enslave the world. (If EDGAR is there,) EDGAR: The Empire and my realm were allies...until recently. SETZER: The Empire...evil...? CELES: We all hate the Empire for the same reasons. That's why... SETZER: You know, you're even more stunning than Maria. CELES: ???? SETZER: Enough! If you... If Celes becomes my wife, I'll help. Otherwise... LOCKE: WHAT! Are you stupid!? CELES: We haven't any choice. SETZER: Yes! It's settled! CELES: But I have conditions... (If EDGAR is there, CELES gets a coin from him.) CELES: We'll decide with a coin toss. If it's heads, you'll help us. If it's tails, I'll go with you. Well, Mr. Gambler...? SETZER: Oho! Fine! I accept! LOCKER: Listen to yourself! CELES...you can't become his wife! You just can't! CELES: Ready? (CELES tosses the coin.) CELES: I win! Now, honor your part of the bargain! SETZER: How...unusual! A codin with identical sides...! (If EDGAR and SABIN are there,) SABIN: That coin...!? EDGAR!!! Don't tell me...! CELES: I think you've been hustled, Mr. Gambler. SETZER: Ha! How low can you get?! I love it! Alright, I'll help you. Nothing to lose but my life... My life is a chip in your pile! Ante up! ______________________________________________________________________ (On the deck of the airship.) LOCKE: This unwieldy-looking ship really moves! Could it crash? SETZER: When things fall, they fall! It's all a matter of fate... LOCKE: This ship's going to stick out like a sore thumb. Better land some distance away. SETZER: Right. I'll wait on board in case of an emergency. ______________________________________________________________________ (In the town of Vector. A man is standing next to some boxes.) (Man) Shh! I'm a Returner sympathizer! (Surprised.) (Man) I've heard of you! While I distract the soldiers, climb onto the steel tower from this box, and enter the facility! All ready? (Party climbs up on the raftors. Man approaches soldiers.) (Man) I...I'm gonna be sick! (Soldier) Get outta here! (Man) Urghh... Gonna toss it all... (Soldier) Hey... (Party sneaks over the soldiers and into the Magitek Research Facility.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In the Magitek Research Facility. Party sees Kefka and has to hide behind a box. Two unconscious Espers are also there, and a moving conveyor belt dumping waste into a pit.) KEFKA: I'm all-powerful! Hee, hee, haw! I'm collecting Espers! I'm extracting magic! And...and...I'll restore the statues! (Kefka laughs maniacally.) (Kefka to one Esper.) KEFKA: I've drained you of your power! You're useless to me now! (Kefka throws the Esper on the conveyor and it falls through.) (Kefka to the other Esper.) KEFKA: And...you! Take a hike! (Kefka throws the other Esper onto the conveyor.) (Scene ends, and Kefka is gone. Party jumps on the conveyor and drops down the pit. They find the two Espers, and a battle with Ifrit and Shiva begins shortly after.) (After Ifrit and Shiva have received enough damage,) IFRIT: I sense a kindred spirit... SHIVA: Who're you...? IFRIT: You have Ramuh's power...? SHIVA: Wait! We're... Espers... (Battle ends.) IFRIT: Hmmm... SHIVA: Well, Ramuh DID entrust them with his power. IFRIT: Gestahl has grabbed our friends and is trying to drain them of their power. I, too, suffered my turn in one of the glass tubes... SHIVA: They drained our powers, then threw us away to... We haven't long to live... We will follow Ramuh's lead, and give to you our power... Our friends are all gone... We haven't much time left... No choice but to entrust you with our essences... (Ifrit and Shiva become Magicite. Received the Esper "Ifrit". Received the Esper "Shiva".) ______________________________________________________________________ (In the laboratory. Six Espers are floating in glass tubes.) ESPER: You want to help me... But... I haven't long to live. Just as Ifrit did before me, I'll give you my power... (All Espers change to Magicite, and the glass shatters. All collect in the party's hands. Cid arrives.) CID: What are you doing there? CID: W...what's this!? CID: So...Esper magical power can only truly be transferred when one of them passes away... CELES: Professor Cid. CID: General CELES! And who might these dubious characters be? Your troops? CELES: No... You see, ... CID: Can it be true that you came here as a spy, seeking to case an uprising?! LOCKE: !? CELES...? (Kefka arrives.) KEFKA: So that's it! Magicite... Cid, you miserable blockhead! Now... General CELES!! The game's over. Bring me those Magitek shards! LOCKE: CELES! You...deceived me?! CELES: Of course not! Have a little faith! KEFKA: G'hee, hee, hee! She has tricked you all! CELES, that's so... YOU! CELES: LOCKE... Please believe me... LOCKE: I......... KEFKA: NOW!! Exterminate all of them! (Soldiers fire on the crowd, but CELES dodges fire.) CELES: LOCKE... Let me protect you for once... Maybe now... Now you'll believe me... KEFKA: CELES! W...what are you doing? Stop it!!! (CELES casts a spell, and she, Kefka and the soldiers vanish.) LOCKE: CELES... CID: Ooh, ooh... What happened? CID: This is a disaster! Your fighting has caused the capsules to rupture! Their contents are spilling out! Quick! Over here! (Cid rushes toward an elevator, and LOCKE and the others follow.) ______________________________________________________________________ (On the elevator.) CID: Kefka has used me...used the Empire. What have I done...? The life-energy of those Espers... You've helped me come to a decision. I'm going to talk to the Emperor and have this stupid war stopped! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the bottom of the elevator, by the railway tunnel.) CID: CELES... I've known her since she was a baby. I raised her as if she was my own daughter! But she was forced to become a Magitek Knight, and has done some awful things. If I could talk to her...I'd apologize for the way her life has turned out. (Maniacal laugh in the background.) CID: No! It's Kefka! GO!! (Cid pushes LOCKE and the others into a railway car, and shoves it off.) ______________________________________________________________________ (Outside the facility, back in the town. SETZER has come to meet them as they escape.) SETZER: I was starting to worry... SETZER: ? What's up with CELES? LOCKE: ...... SETZER: We'll talk later. Let's get outta here! ______________________________________________________________________ (In Vector's castle.) KEFKA: Crud! What a mess!! KEFKA: I don't think so...! You won't get away! (Kefka operates a machine.) ______________________________________________________________________ (In the Blackjack, which is airborne.) LOCKE: Let's not overstay our visit. We're outta here on the double! SETZER: Right. Speaking of which... Maybe we should be leaving. (If EDGAR is there,) EDGAR: Something horrible's coming!! (If SABIN is there,) SABIN: Uwaaoo! What in the...? (Battle with Cranes.) LOCKE: I'm worried about TERRA. Let's return to Zozo. SETZER: TERRA? Who's that? LOCKE: I'll explain on the way... ...about TERRA... ...Espers... ...the Returners... ______________________________________________________________________ (In Zozo Tower.) We're all here... LOCKE: TERRA... (A piece of Magicite glows.) LOCKE: Magicite!! (The Esper "Maduin" glows in TERRA's presence.) TERRA: Father...? TERRA: I remember it all... I was raised in the Esper's world. (Begin flashback. In a strange world.) The Esper World... (Esper) Emergency! Something's coming through the gate! (Maduin runs out and finds a human girl.) MADUIN: Listen well, and think clearly! What will you do? (Return Together) (The Esper Elder's chambers.) (Girl) She's pretty weak. Better let her rest for a moment. (Man) You'd better do away with it. Humans and Espers are incompatible... ELDER: Did I hear there was a human here? MADUIN: Probably... ...wandered in here by mistake. (Girl wakes up.) MADUIN: Did I awaken you? GIRL: You're...an Esper? What's that pendant for? MADUIN: It's...yours now! It helps protect the Esper World. GIRL: Esper World... Boy, did I take the low road or what? MADUIN: The Esper folk are pretty upset, you being a human and all... GIRL: You the one who...saved me? ESPER: I am Maduin. I tired living in the human world... That world is filled with desire, greed and loathing. It's highly infection... Are humans and Espers truly...so different? MADONNA: So...I'm an example of the evil in this world, huh? MADUIN: No, I mean... MADONNA: I'll return to my world tomorrow! MADUIN: You'll need a guide! (The next day.) ELDER: Everything all right? WHAT? The human's gone? (Girl) The human girl made it all the way to the gate! (Man) If this generation of humans knew about out abilities... And decided they wanted to utilize our powers... It would be a total disaster! (Girl) Everyone here's feeling uneasy. (Man) The link between worlds has surely weakened over the past 1000 years. (Girl) Why has this happened now after all these years? YOUTH: What's wrong, Maduin? (At the gate. Madonna is there.) MADUIN: If you don't want to return to your world, you may stay here. MADONNA: But humans and Espers can never coexist...! MADUIN: How do we know for sure unless we observe for ourselves? How do we know... unless we... observe for ourselves...? MADUIN: We've given her a name... MADONNA: What? MADUIN: It's TERRA. Not bad, huh? (Two years later.) (Imperial soldiers have broken in, and are taking away Espers.) (Esper) Humans!!!!! The nexus between our worlds has opened again!! The wind...so odd...just like two years ago... But everything's different now... Troops have come seeking our magical power. Blast it! They've made it as far as the Elder's house! (Gestahl arrives.) GESTAHL: Aha! We've finally found it! Those ancient writings told us of this world, and described the awesome magical properties of these beasts! GESTAHL: Grab them! Riches to any man who captures an Esper! GO! (In the Elder's chambers.) MADONNA: TERRA's alright. (Man) Soon the humans will arrive! ELDER: We've no choice... We must do what we've been avoiding... MADUIN: You mean...the magic barrier? ELDER: Here's the plan. We'll cause a tempest that'll sweep all the nasty creatures out of our realm. Then we'll seal the gate... I am the last of our kind able to cast this magical seal. MADUIN: But in your state, you might just... ELDER: Pass away...but at least we will finally be safe. MADUIN: Madonna...... MADONNA: I, for one will not miss the other side... ELDER: Let's do it. We have no other choice. (Man) This is all because of that human girl! MADUIN: Nonsense! (Man) I'm sure she helped the others find us! MADUIN: Get a grip on yourself! (Man) No! She's one of them! Soon she'll be wearing our hide! (Madonna runs out.) MADUIN: Urghhh! (Man) Madonna took TERRA to the gate! (Near the gate. Elder is there, casting the spell.) ELDER: Where are you going?! D'goh! MADUIN: Madonna's getting drawn into the next world...! ELDER: Impossible! It's too late! I've already begun casting the barrier. There's no turning back! MADUIN: That fool... (At the gate. Gestahl, some soldiers, Madonna and TERRA are there.) (Soldier) Look what popped out! (A wind blows the soldiers and Gestahl through the gate.) GESTAHL: Shriek!!! Just when we were in reach of a veritable bonanza...! MADONNA: Maduin... I'm not their friend... MADUIN: I understand that! MADONNA: Thank you... MADUIN: Can you make it back here? MADONNA: Sure... (Madonna loses hold of TERRA, who is sucked through the gate.) TERRA!!! (Madonna goes after her, being herself sucked through the gate.) MADUIN: MADONNA!! (Maduin is sucked through the gate. The three lie in the forest outside the gate. Gestahl approaches Madonna.) GESTAHL: A...human girl? Wh... Who is she? MADONNA: Please...take care...of my baby... GESTAHL: YOUR girl!? Eh!? Hmmm... Then she's half human and half... How absolutely fascinating! Mwa, ha, ha... She will help us realize our dream faster than we ever imagined! MADONNA: N...noooo!!! GESTAHL: Quiet, my dear!! (Gestahl strikes Madonna.) GESTAHL: We will own this world! Ha, ha, ha... (The gate finally completely closes.) (Flashback ends.) TERRA: That was my father...? I'm the product of an Esper and a human... That's where I got my powers... Now I understand... I finally feel I can begin to control this power of mine... EDGAR: So Gestahl must've known the secret of the Espers' power back then. LOCKE: And those Espers at the facility were grabbed during that expedition! That means CELES's power came... ...at the expense of an Esper... SABIN: They can't get away with this! We have to strike back! TERRA: What's happening in Narshe? LOCKE: Hmm... Maybe we should head back that way. SETZER: The airship's ready! TERRA: Come on! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the gates of Narshe.) We've been waiting for you. This way, please... (In Elder's home.) BANON: Oh, you're here! The people of Narshe have decided to battle the Empire. How did it go at Vector...? ARVIS: I see... Your plan would combine Narshe's money with Figaro's machinery to storm the Empire...not enough manpower, though... BANON: We have to open the sealed gate... (TERRA arrives.) TERRA!? TERRA: To the Esper World...? ARVIS: We'll never beat the Empire without them. BANON: When the gate has been opened, the Espers can attack from the east. We'll storm in at the same time, from the north. No way around it. BANON: We MUST get the Espers to understand. We have to establish a bond of trust between humans and Espers. Only one person can do this... TERRA... Half human, half Esper... My existence is proof that such a bond CAN exist... TERRA: I'll do it. I'm the only one who can! BANON: Get the Espers to understand, and we can bring this war to a screeching halt. TERRA... I know you can do this... ELDER: Our battle lies before us. We must make ourselves ready. ARVIS: The sealed gate stands at the eastern edge of the Empire. There's a base there, but somehow we'll have to slip through... ______________________________________________________________________ (In the treasure shed.) (Man) G'whoa! I've been made! I am Lone Wolf, the pickpocket! I wanted that treasure! (As the party chases Lone Wolf, he backtracks every now and then to see if they've given up or not.) LONE WOLF: G'heh! LONE WOLF: Persistent, aren't you! (At the top, by the frozen Esper, Lone Wolf has a Moogle hostage.) LONE WOLF: Halt! Don't move or this one's dust...! MOG: Kupo!! LONE WOLF: G'heh! Got a wild one, here...! Uwaaa! (Lone Wolf and MOG are hanging off opposite edges of the cliff.) LONE WOLF: Grrrr... You'll never get this "Gold Hairpin"! (If you save MOG instead of Lone Wolf,) MOG: Thankupo! (Surprise.) Can you talk?! MOG: That old psycho, Ramuh, came to me in a dream and told me to be expectin' you! And now... I'm...gonna join your party! LONE WOLF: Hmmm...if this is how it's gonna be then...take this! (Lone Wolf falls down the cliff.) MOG: I'll wait in the airship, kupo! ______________________________________________________________________ (At the Imperial base, east of Vector.) That's odd... No Imperial soldiers... TERRA: Let's get this over with. ______________________________________________________________________ (At the sealed gate.) This is the sealed gate... LOCKE: Beyond is the Esper World... (If SETZER is there,) SETZER: Why'd you bring me to such an awful place!? TERRA: ...... (Kefka arrives behind them.) TERRA! ...the gate...quickly! K... ...Kefka!! You followed us! KEFKA: U'hee, hee, heeee!!!! The Emperor was right! Let TERRA fall into your hands, and you'd open the gate for us...! ......! How does it feel to know you've been working for us?! KEFKA: Now I fear you've outlived your usefulness...... You'd better think again, Kefka! KEFKA: Oh dear...... You wanna fight me?! This is just dreadful! Keep Kefka busy until TERRA slips through the gate!! (When TERRA opens the gate,) Look... The, the door's opening! TERRA: Espers... Please head my call... KEFKA: It opened!! TERRA!!! KEFKA: I, I, I, I feel so anxious. Something's coming!!! (Espers start to fly out past their heads.) KEFKA: Frightful energy! KEFKA: Uwaaa! TERRA!!! TERRA: ......... (Rocks above the gate crumble and block it.) Hey! The gate!!! What about those Espers...? TERRA: Look, let's return to the airship. ______________________________________________________________________ (At the Imperial base, the party meets up with the others they left behind on the airship.) What happened? The Espers flew off together... Then, the Empire's citizens ran off, as though they were terrified. Which way did the Espers go? Toward the capital... Vector... ______________________________________________________________________ (On the deck of the Blackjack.) SETZER: We're almost at Vector. There! What's that? LOCKE: What's wrong, TERRA? TERRA: I can feel it...... It's coming closer and closer... LOCKE: What do you mean you can feel it? TERRA: It was... ...glowing! LOCKE: What's that? LOCKE: It can't be... ...! An Esper??? LOCKE: It's coming!!! Watch out, TERRA!! (LOCKE throws TERRA to the floor. Espers are flying around. SETZER approaches to see what's going on.) SETZER: What was that!? LOCKE: SETZER, get down! (LOCKE throws SETZER to the floor.) SETZER: Gulp... ...Espers... ...! LOCKE: Where are they going? TERRA: They were mad...... LOCKE: They seemed... ...angry. TERRA: No...... Stop...! Please, don't go!! SETZER: Forget that... ...what's with this vibration?! Is it from the Espers? EDGAR: Um... ...SETZER!!!! I've lost control!!! (The Blackjack crashes near Maranda.) ______________________________________________________________________ (At Vector. The city is in flames. Banon, Arvis and many Returners and Narshe Guards are wandering around the city.) BANON: What ARE you talking about...? ......!! Talking with... Espers...? ARVIS: It was like this when we got here. (Chancellor) The Emperor's expecting you. This way... ______________________________________________________________________ (At the throne room. Gestahl is there.) GESTAHL: I've lost my will to fight... (Cid comes out of a door.) CID: The Emperor's had a change of heart... Cid!! CID: The Espers came to save their friends. When they learned the others had perished, they went berserk, and trashed the town... Never will I forget their shrieks of rage... (Sentry) We're hanging up our weapons and armor for good. GESTAHL: The power of those Espers... I had no idea... They'll shred the world...! We must get them to understand that we are no longer at war. CID: No human's going to make them sit down and listen... GESTAHL: But for now my friends... Let us feast and rejoice! CID: There're some people here who'd prefer to keep fighting. Please, before we dine, talk to as many soldiers as you can! Make them understand! (Trooper) Please talk to as many soldiers as you can. You have four minutes before dinner. [NOTE: Because of time restraints during this scene, I couldn't transcribe the words of the soldiers, but I did get the words of Kefka, in his jail cell.] KEFKA: Grrr! How DARE they put me in a place like this! I don't believe this! (Kefka jumps around, wasting the player's time, and occasionally laughing maniacally.) KEFKA: What a bore. ______________________________________________________________________ That Evening the banquet with the Emperor took place... (In the banquet room. Gestahl, four Chancellors, and the party are seated.) (Soldier) This way, please. CID: You can count me in as a Returner! (Cid sits in the remaining seat on the Returners' side.) [NOTE: This dinner has several variations and is very interactive, but I decided to only use the best version; the one that gives you the most points.] GESTAHL: Imagine! All of us here together, sharing a meal! First we must have a toast! To our hometowns... GESTAHL: Well then... To our hometowns! GESTAHL: As you know, Kefka's in jail for his war crimes. What shall we do with him? Leave him in jail... GESTAHL: Hmm... Well, let's let him stew in his cell for a while. Then we'll decide what to do. GESTAHL: I truly apologize about the poisoning of Doma. No one dreamed Kefka would use poison. That was inexcusable. GESTAHL: I'm so terribly sorry! Kefka's being severely punished, and we're cleaning up the poison. GESTAHL: By the way... With regard to General CELES... CELES is one of us! GESTAHL: Kefka was lying. General CELES realized the war was stupid before anyone else. That's why she joined the Returners. Any other questions for me? Why'd you start the war? GESTAHL: My desire for power got the best of me. Now I've come to my senses. With your permission, I'd like to talk about the Espers... One more question please! Why do you want peace now? GESTAHL: I feel we need each other's help at this time... One more question please! Why'd we have to talk to your men? GESTAHL: Some of my men refuse to embrace peace. I felt they'd understand if they actually met you face to face. Let's talk about Espers... GESTAHL: My Empire's been decimated by the Espers that emerged from the sealed gate. They're acting spiteful. Unless they're stopped, they'll rip the world asunder! Yes, the Espers have gone too far. GESTAHL: After the Espers went on their rampage, I knew I couldn't go on with my war. I asked myself why I had started it in the first place. By the way... About those questions you asked me... Which did you ask first? "Why'd you start the war?" GESTAHL: Right. Anyway, more than anything I want peace. That's my true dream. I want you to understand that! CID: You seem a bit tired. Care for a rest break? Yes, let's take a break. CID: All will be put right if we can achieve peace...! (Chancellors) We want to test your strength! Won't you fight us for a couple of minutes? Sure. (Battle.) (Chancellors) Just as we thought... Shall we begin again? GESTAHL: Is there anything you wish to hear me say? That your war's truly over. GESTAHL: I understand. I've ordered this war to be over! Now I must ask for a favor... GESTAHL: After they devastated my Empire, the Espers headed northward, toward Crescent Island. They must be found...! We must tell them we're no longer their enemy. After all that I have put them through, it is up to me to set things right. This is why...I need to borrow TERRA's power. Only TERRA can bridge the gap between Esper and human. GESTAHL: We must make for Crescent Island aboard the freighter from Albrook. Will you accompany me? Yes. GESTAHL: I'll have mu finest warrior accompany us! General Leo! (Leo arrives.) LEO: I'm General Leo. Nice to meet you. (If SABIN is there,) Didn't I see you at Doma? ...I'm SURE I did... So that's General Leo... (If CYAN is there,) LEO: You! You're CYAN, liege to the king of Doma! Please forgive me for not being there to stop Kefka... CYAN: ...... That wasn't your fault. LEO: I'll be waiting for you in Albrook. GESTAHL: We must find the Espers and come to terms with them! You are our last hope! LOCKE: If TERRA goes, I'll go. TERRA: LOCKE... Thank you... LOCKE: The rest of you wait here. I smell a rat... EDGAR: agreed... It's hard to trust the Emperor just like that... CYAN: We'll stay here and investigate. LOCKE: Please do. Leave no stone unturned! EDGAR: Right. And you be careful! ______________________________________________________________________ (In the throne room. A Chancellor arrives.) (Chancellor) A message from the Emperor... Because you were able to talk to so many soldiers, you are to be rewarded as follows. Imperial troops have withdrawn from South Figaro. In addition, our troops have also pulled out of Doma. We hereby give you the right to take any weapons you desire from the Imperial base to the east, near the sealed cave. And this is from the Emperor himself... (Received Tintinabar.) Your behavior at the banquet was impeccable. Please take this as well! (Received Charm Bangle.) Well... (Chancellor leaves.) (Around the town.) EDGAR: Albrook's a port to the south of the Empire. A Magitek Armor hauling ship piles the waters between there and Crescent Island... We'll penetrate the Imperial base. You deal with the Espers! GESTAHL: General Leo's waiting in Albrook. Please head for Crescent Island and look for Espers... CYAN: Never will I be able to forgive Kefka... BANON: Could Gestahl have meant such a thing? Team up with the Empire to track down an Esper... Hmm... ARVIS: Makes sense. Can't just forget about Espers... SABIN: Can we really trust the Empire?! I have an awful feeling about this... MOG: Kupo! GAU: Smells like parents' house here...why so familiar? ______________________________________________________________________ (In Tzen, a man is hiding in the trees.) (Man) Oh, NO! Whew...don't SCARE people like that! I thought you were a trooper! A while ago someone broke into the Magitek Research Facility, and raised a ruckus! I took the opportunity to grab this. For 3000 GP this glowing stone's yours. (Received the Esper "Sraphim".) Got an juicy gossip? [NOTE: If you wait to buy Seraphim much later in the game, the stone will only cost 10 GP.] ______________________________________________________________________ [NOTE: It's rumored that if you go back to the Blackjack at this point, you will find Cid and SETZER working together down in the engine room. I can't verify this since I've never seen it. LEO: People are people. Not all of us are like Kefka. TERRA: What...what's with you? LEO: I knew you were being used as a kind of biological weapon... And because I didn't do anything about it, I'm no different than Kefka... TERRA: I'm the product of a human and an Esper... Will I ever be able to love someone? LEO: Of course! TERRA: But...I haven't felt that way yet... LEO: You're just young. ...but I understand what you mean. I understand only too well... (Leo leaves.) TERRA: But...I want to know what love is...now!
