Forever Kingdom

Forever Kingdom is the second installment of the Evergrace series for the PlayStation 2. Substantial improvements have been made over the original title, including an enticing combo system in battles, better voice-acting, and a fuller soundtrack. Join Darius and his companions as they attempt to prevent a war, and enjoy equipping the party with a strange variety of equipment in this "Fashion RPG".

Grandia II

First released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, Grandia II was ported to the PlayStation 2 earlier this year due to the popularity of the game, which contains one of the most active battle systems of any console RPG to date. This port enables RPGamers who missed out on the Dreamcast version to join Ryudo and friends in their quest to vanquish evil may now get the oppurtunity to try it out.

Grandia Extreme

Game Arts' Grandia series is home to one of the most enjoyable battle systems around, which is good news as Grandia Extreme is a textbook example of a dungeon crawler. Bounty hunter Evan and up to seven other party members will tackle four main dungeons in search of the Spirit Ruins that will hopefully restore order to their world, which has been ravaged by evil spirits.

Kingdom Hearts

Quite possibly the dream game of anyone who has every written a fan fiction, Kingdom Hearts, created by SquareSoft and Disney puts players on an adventure as Sora, a young boy who is swept up in a violent storm on his island home. He comes to a world populated by dozens of Disney characters, including his two new companions, Donald Duck and Goofy, and goes off in search of his missing friends, who disappeared during the storm. As the wielder of the keyblade, Sora fights the forces of the Heartless who are not only trying to take over the worlds of Disney, but are haunting his dreams as well. Featuring unique play mechanics, a bizarre storyline, and a truckload of secrets, Kingdom Hearts manages to be a great game even with its unique company background.

King's Field: The Ancient City

A scion to a respectable series, King's Field: The Ancient City is unique as a PS2 RPG in the sense that it takes place in the first person. It is through the eyes of Prince Devian that players explore the Ancient City and fight off lots of enemies with an array of weapons. The game can also lay claim to some reasonable graphics and music. It may not be a high profile game, but for those who have already worked through the others on this list, this one might be worth a look.
