  Art and Lore - 08/10/00

  *plop*
  On the Drawing Board

Currently working on: Fanart! But Gahhh...I am crazy tired...Got back from Otakon 2000 this Monday, and I swear, these past two months have been incredibly stressful, what with producing art for the cons, demo book production for The Art Corner, and getting all one million and one websites I maintain updated. Gomen nasai, i've been a really lousy RPGamer fanart curator. But good news: i'm looking for a solution as i speak ^_^

Ack, late again. I guess i'll hafta go through my Anime Expo AND Otakon pictures and upload two oogly pictures. Doi. This suckeths. Sorry about apologizing so much for the recent slag in updates. I don't think I need to give you any more reasons/excuses, as they're getting lame and you've heard them all...I'm exploring my options currently, cuz the future layout of my schedule doesn't look like it will let up any...but i do want you all to get regular fanart updates. T_T so stay tuned....

Otakon 2000 absolutely rocked. I am so into anime cons now. I never thought it'd be possible to enjoy anime conventions without being an anime fan, but hell it is. =) For those who didn't think I'd have the guts to cosplay Mullenkamp from Vagrant Story...I did *snigger* and what's more, I found an Ashley who tried to stick a $5 in my costume XD. (I wonder if he reads this column.)

Gonna have to strike some more gaming conventions and meet more people! =)

If you don't know this by now...

  • When you send fanart in, press the "ok" button, and THEN discover that you made a boo-boo, don't panic!!! Simply send the ENTIRE submission again, all information and attachment included, and re-send right away. Don't send an e-mail with only an attachment and a short "sorry" message, that won't help me because now your fanart submission is floating around in multiple e-mails and is easily lost. I don't mind multiple e-mails as much as fragmented e-mails.

  • Again, PLEASE read up on the Submission Guidelines before submitting artwork! I've had shy, nervous first-time submitters send in absolutely gorgeous, complete submissions. So you can do it too, you veteran you! Not to mention...it'd save me a LOT of eyestrain...

    Bahamut of Final Fantasy VII
    " Mega Flare "
    Artwork by Repty

Comments: Bahamut is my favourite summon monster, he's *soo* cute! ^_^ I made this pic with acrylic paint. Unfortunately, my scanner left ugly lines all over it. I tried to retouch away the worst in Micrografx Picture Publisher but there are still some left. Sorry about that.

Cait Sith of Final Fantasy VII
    "Neglected "
    Artwork by Lightsoul

Comments: So it's a simple picture, but let me tell you about what it would have been. This is for my fanfic 'Neglect' which made it to the fanfic page a little while back. It originally had Reeve in the same pose as Cait Sith, but I always drew him badly so cut him out completely. Also, another of my fics made it to the page this week! Check it out!

    Feena of Grandia
    " Feena "
    Artwork by Landale

Comments: When I look at it, it does seem like Feena is singing in this picture, and that«s how I came up with the title^o^!! Haven«t done a CG in a while, so I did one in PSP (as always) and scanned a photo as background. I kind of like the coloring , with the help of Cging you«ll get clear colors, but I must say I like odinary colormarkers the best. The lensflare thingy gave the pic a warmer and brighter look too ^,~

    Bleu of Breath of Fire
    " Bleu "
    Artwork by Kathy

Comments: Well, this is my interpretation of what Bleu would look like in real life. I truly did try to draw her Naga-snake like tail, but I failed miserably T___T. So I...just cropped it out ^_^;. Hee hee! The easy solution to all your drawing problems...just crop them out XD. Bleh. Oh well, not my best picture, but not my worst, either ^_^.

    Kid of Chrono Cross
" Bugger! Now you'll eat some Thunder! "
    Artwork by Robert William Slade

Comments: Bugger! This was a tough one, as Kid would say. And I'll admit, this piece did take awhile. As you can see its a picture of Kid performing a thunder attack. I don't know if she uses lightning attacks, but oh well. The style here was inspired by Ah! My Goddess, my favorite manga of all time. And I used Painter again, too make all the cool effects, yada yada. I know the picture is large, but I honestly tried to shrink it, and if I did shrink any further the lines would of gotten jagged and ended up looking like stuff you see in Paintbrush. But anyway, I hope you like it, and I have another picture of Kid to send later on. E-mail me your comments at kayinvanderkill@aol.com, thank you : )

    Pokiehl of Legend of Mana
    " Poet Pokiehl "
    Artwork by Anchella

Comments: For some reason I really liked Pokiehl... He's neat ^_^ So I drew a picture of him in pen and then CGed it to look like watercolor. He's writing a poem ^_^

Red XIII from Final Fantasy VII
    " Red Fury "
    Artwork by Sulamoon

Comments: This was done first using Windows Paint brush... It come out cool enough, so I decide working on a Photoshop version. That is it. So long I don't draw Red XIII ^^; As always, comments are welcome!

    Aeris of Final Fantasy VII
    " Revival "
    Artwork by Shannon

Comments: This was just basically a pencil sketch I used to practice using my very rusty adobe photoshop skills. Its a scene we've all hoped we could see right? It took about three hours to draw and three days to color!

Ryu of Breath of Fire III
    " Dragon Warrior Ryu "
    Artwork by Wulfmune

Comments: Someone once mentioned to me awhile ago that they're aren't many pics of ryu in his dragon forms. so i thought hmm i really liked the warrior form. the pic is a bit old though i managed to somehow find it the other day.

    Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII
    " Untitled "
    Artwork by Leigh Bader

Comments: I actually don't draw Sephiroth that much, but this one came out really cool. Just a drawing I did, then CGed. For once I actually got his clothes to look the way they do in the game. Anyway, Enjoy!

    Fei Fong Wong of Xenogears
    " Flying Sparks "
    Artwork by Joel Cresencia

Comments: This is my first attempt with a Xenogear fanart, and I think it came out quite well. I wanted to give the impression of motion, hence Fei's leg. Plus, I was doing a l'il experimenting with Photoshop, and that's how I ended up with those sparks.lies

    Billy Lee Black of Xenogears
" Quiet before the Storm "
    Artwork by Lea

Comments: I've only drawn a few pics of Billy, and up until now, none of them turned out the way I wanted ^^;. This piece worked out well, to my surprise ^_^. I wanted to use muted colors to make it look stormier, and drew out my own bg instead my usually "use the cheesy filters in Photoshop". I hope everyone enjoys it!

    Slash of Chrono Cross
    " Superstar "
    Artwork by alia

Comments: Slash -- again! He is quite the fun fellow to depict. I've been experimenting with some slightly different mediums; here I tried color pencils on black texture paper. I rather like how it turned out! Comments are more than welcome.

Cloud and Aeris of Final Fantasy VII
" Waiting for the Rain to Stop "
    Artwork by Ludi Price

Comments: This is a really old pic from 1998, but since it was one of my first FFVII drawings to be painted, I thought I'd give it some credit. This had been a little diea that had been floating around in my head for a while...Well, we'd all like to huggle up to Cloud in the cold and rain wouldn't we??? Ack, my twisted little mind...
