Welcome To The New Year

Hoihoihoi! I'm so glad to be back! Hope you had a good time with nigel last update...thank him for covering for me while I was kidnapped and having an in Las Vegas and L.A! (No, seriously!!) That's where the, ah, aliens took me. They were studying the influence of casino static electricity on the human brain. Yeah, that's it.

Anyway, I have a VERY important announcement today. In fact, I have only one announcement today, hence the absence of all the other blabber usually here. RPGamer Fanart is hosting the first Fanart "competition" it's ever had: The Best of 1999 Contest! You will notice that in the Update Archive, I have included every single update I've done this year. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to browse these updates and send me nominations of the best piece of fanart in 1999. No nominating yourself, please. (This means you, Lorelai...oh wait, h-h-hey! Oops...heh...) Because of the sheer volume of e-mails i expect to get, please follow the nomination process TO THE LETTER:

  1. You can nominate up to THREE pieces of fanart. Now, since I'm the curator of RPGamer, do not vote for any artist named Lorelai. I will be automatically disqualified. (I'm SO nice...)

  2. E-mail your choice to lorelai@rpgamer.com. In the subject line, write this: "Best of 1999 fanart nomination" COPY THIS EXACTLY! Filters will be in place, and if your e-mail doesn't land in the appropriate box, the vote may not be counted.

  3. In the BODY of your e-mail, type a link to the piece of fanart. It's not that hard...just right-click the link and select "copy link location" and paste that into the body of your e-mail. There would be NOTHING else in the body of the e-mail except maybe two or three lines of comments you may add at your discretion.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL ARTISTS!!!!

Charlotte from Seiken Densetsu 3
" Merry X-masu "
Artwork by Landale

Comments: O~kay! X-mas is fastly sneaking up by the corner and I just Had to Do a X-mas pic to send to everyone I know and to have on my Homepage! (since it«s my first X-masu on the net WITH a Homepage^^) It all started out with the eyes and I can«t tell HOW long I sat and grumbeled over WHO it should be. Probaly that took the most time of the whole pic! But then it was decided after seein g and old Issue of Super Power (now called Super Play) a Swedish game«s mag^^ It had a article «bout SD3 and I just love that game..and Charlotte do seem to be the most X-masu-looking character of all of them «(and I used her in my game..) I`M very please with the way it all came out. I wanted it to be a lil simple, the color and all. I was suposed to put Kevin in that boxfrom the beg. but it chnaged into the Sprite (who«s name I can«t renember) of SD2^^ It«s a nice cross-fanart^^ And YES those funny letter-boxes are partily created by me, so it«s not some phrame I found on the net.

Luca, Seed, and Culgan from Suikoden II
" Pig Killer "
Artwork by Arashi

Comments: No, I'm not sick or anything! I just thought it'd be funny if Luca LITERALLY killed pigs, and this is what came to mind... ^_^; You'd have to have played the game to understand this. Anyway, this is an SD picture of Luca killing "pigs" while doing his crazy (but awesome) laugh, and Seed and Culgan are standing behind him, confused.

Rosa from Final Fantasy IV
" Rosa "
Artwork by Guillaume

Comments: Well, this is my second submission so far! I recently bought myself some art material and wanted to try it out on some fanart. My first try on this portrait was done with watercolor, but seeing the desastreous result it gave, I decided to cg it instead. I definitly need more practice! Anyway, the outline was done with indian ink (I also need some practice with that!) and the coloring was done with photoshop 5.0 LE. I think it turned out pretty well, I learned many things doing this fanart. The two thing I don't like is the way the hand looks (a little unproportioned) and her hair, it's too much pink-looking! Oh well, I hope you all like it, any comments are welcomed!

Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI
" Magic "
Artwork by Rin-chan

Comments: This was my first serious CG work ... and it took forEVER o_O! I'm happy with the way her clothes came out, but the hair and skin look ... odd -_-;; I still gotta work on coloring hair ... anyhoo, hope u like! ^.^

Aeris from Final Fantasy VII
" Aeris "
Artwork by Majin Vegeta

Comments Aeris was my favorite character from Final Fantasy VII, and I always wanted to draw a good fanart of her. Majin actually wanted to color it, he says he wanted to do it for my practice with adobe coloring. We did this in Adobe Photoshop 5.0.

Ellone from Final Fantasy VIII
" Kimono Girl "
Artwork by K-chan

Comments: I just came up with the idea of drawing Elle in a kimono. Actually, I'm not really good at kimonos so I had help with the design and patterns from a picture. The patterns actually took most of my CG time. There are rarely any fanart of Ellone around so I hope this makes up to it. I hope you enjoy this fanart^_^

Ultimecia of Final Fantasy VIII
" The Ultimate Sorceress "
Artwork by K. Kortelainen

Comments: The making of the picture started from making a pencil sketch of Ultimecia ( about 3 hours of pausing the game and casting the scan spell). Then I made the actual drawing which I scanned. After that I coloured the picture in Photoshop, and that wasn«t a short process. But I think that the picture looks pretty nice. And has anyone made any pictures of this character?

Squall from Final Fantasy VIII
" LionHeart "
Artwork by GlassShard

Comments: Heh, I've never spent so long on a piece of fanart as I did on this one. Oh, and since I've had people ask, *yes* I drew everything in here by hand, even the dinky little clowns! ^_^ But hey, it was worth it, the scene where cutie Squall goes after Edea at the end of disc one has got to be one of my favourites from any game. So here's my version of it, in Photoshop 5.5

Cast of Final Fantasy VI
" Final Fantasy Anime "
Artwork by Duncan Burris

Comments: If Final Fantasy VI was ever made into an anime, it would probably look something like this. Well, okay, maybe not. ^_^ This baby was a toughy since there arn't many official designs to base the drawing off of. I just had to find a happy marriage between the game sprites and Amano's sketches. But, I think it turned out pretty good. This picture took about 2 months to do, manly because I kept putting it off and I have to make every little detail look right. It ended up looking almost nothing like the original I drew on paper...but, all for the better I suppose.
