A Note from Lore

As you see, today's update is by the kind and wonderful Kouryuu, because Lorelai here is still pretty swamped. Rather than deny you a fanart update, I kidnapped...er...asked Kouryuu to assist me! Enjoy! I will return next week.

Welcome

Youkoso! ^_^ Welcome to the follow-up installment to the October 30th update! As you may have already read, you shall be stuck with ME, Kouryuu, for today. >D Perhaps I should introduce myself since I'm sure that there are many people out there who don't know I am. This is, of course, for the benefit of those that even give a hoot ...

I was the EVIL creator/maintainer of the Sephiroth shrine entitled Sephiroth no oukoku. (Actually, I'm still EVIL as noted by the update title. XP) After 2 years of running the place, I decided to retire due to my lack of interest and desire to continue with the Web page. My current game obsession is Tales of Phantasia. (Nope, no shrine for this but I do have a page for its soundtrack.) In fact, I have the PlayStation game just sitting on top of my Magic Knight Rayearth illustration collections ... and ... it's ... taunting me ... ~>_<~ Indeed, I would play it if I had a PlayStation. +P So for those that know me, yes, after all this time, I STILL don't have a PS so no, I STILL haven't finished FFVII. But! At least I own one "system" now -- a Game Boy Color. ^^; Now let's just hope Estpolis/Lufia III DOES get released on the GBC! >P

Erm, what else? Well, I do draw and LIKE to draw but churning out artwork is not something I do on a frequent basis. As a result, my skills are not up to par with some of the artists that grace this page. I applaud those that have the love and tenacity to keep practicing. ^___^ Me, I just get easily distracted with the Web and other things. ^^;;;;;;; The only time you'd probably catch me drawing nowadays is during lectures. Â_Â;;

Hee, having introduced meself, I would now like to thank Lorelai for giving me the opportunity to defile her spot here at RPGamer. =P

KouKou Babble

Okei, everyone must buy The Sandman: The Dream Hunters. XP For those that don't know, it's an illustrated story book written by Neil Gaiman, the renown author of The Sandman comic series, with dazzling art by Amano Yoshitaka. I got the graphic novel the day it came out (Wed, October 27th) and all I have to say is that Amano does an INCREDIBLE rendition of Morpheus. In fact, I fell IN LOVE with his Sandman the moment I saw the tapestry of the character at DC's booth at Chicago's Wizard World Comic Con. Storywise, it's a retelling of a Japanese legend, but like his recount of Orpheus' tale and Shakespeare's A Mid-Summer Night's Dream, Gaiman offers a different perspective on how certain events occurred.

And although I make it sound like I got it just for the art, I didn't. I bought The Dream Hunters as both a Sandman and Amano fan. ^.^ (Oh, the irony of calling myself a Sandman fan -- I've been with the series from the start but I haven't finished reading all the issues yet. +P)

Here is da thoughts-triggering Cookie!

Lore's Shtuff that you should know, take note, engrave onto your forehead ...:

  • "The Art Corner": Check out RPGamer's counterpart, The Art Corner. ^-^ If question marks are floating around your head on this, then you really should go and take a look. =P

  • Ask Lore:: Bother Lorelai with Lifestream e-mail! Just be nice and don't pry too much into her life. ^_~

  • Art on IRC:: Fire up your IRC client and log onto esper.net to join #artcorner, ye olde official channel for The Art Corner! Critiquers/staffers, if ye already haven't, go to the channel to get your Ops. (Yes, you shall obtain god-like powers to smite and flog peons that annoy you and other innocent bystanders in the channel!) And here's an incentive for you to drop by #artcorner: it's another way you can interrogate Lore about her life and all. ^.^

Kou's Shtuff that you should ignore, disregard, ignore:

  • No, that is not a sig: Indeed, my real name is not Chester Barklight although I suppose it wouldn't be too bad to be Chester Barklight. Of course, we all know that he's just a character from Namco's snazzy RPG, Tales of Phantasia ... right? Anyway, I just stuck this silly rodent (as in mouse-driven) piece, rendered via Photoshop 5, here since having Lore's sig here would be silly considering I'm not her. XP And I am not up to doodling myself for any purpose. >P If you want, you can click on the pic to see it in its original size -- not that it's drastically bigger or anything. =P

  • About this fan art update and why Kou is EVIL: Aside from the obvious fact of being long-winded, I must state that some of the comments shown below have been edited as they won't exactly read properly if I posted them exactly as they were written in the e-mail. =/ Edited out parts will have have brackets and/or ellipses. And just for the record, this is NOT censorship! >P Now, to avoid such from happening again in da future, I must point everyone sending fan art to the Submission Guidelines. I really, highly, extremely, SEVERELY RECOMMEND that cut and paste section. =P

    No, this isn't me

  • Ash and Eleni from Vandal Hearts
    " Ash, Eleni "
    Artwork by Anne "Lumina" Barrie

Comments: The [...] picture's from "Vandal Hearts", featuring Ash Lambert and Eleni Dunbar. I've got a thing for this particular couple for some odd reason...couldn't help but draw a romantic pic. ^_^

    Miklotov of Suikoden 2
    " Miklotov "
    Artwork by Anne "Lumina" Barrie

    Comments: [This] pic's of one of my fave "Suikoden 2" characters, the commander of the Matilda Blue Knights, Miklotov. I kinna think he's unappreciated compared to Camus. ^^;;

    Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII
    " One Winged Angel "
    Artwork by R.T Brown

Comments: Earlier in the year I did a One Winged Angel graphic for my web page. I figured the time was ripe to see if I could improve a little and test my 3-D rendering skills some. Most of the work was actually done in Poser and Bryce with the final touches done with painter 6.0. Comments are appreciated.

    Elly of Xenogears
    " Elly Looks Back "
    Artwork by Wai Chu Yu

Comments: This picture is known as the 'Elly butt shot' because, well, it's fairly obvious. :-) I think of it as Elly's reaction to Fei calling her when she has to run off to fight instead of staying by his side. Pencil and inked with pen on bristol.
    Kou note: My apologies to Wai Chu Yu for not posting all the thumbnails and comments to the submitted pics. I basically just chose my favourite out of the four pieces and posted that one. ^^ However, the other 3 (which are just as wonderful) can be seen here, here, and here. ^-^;

Selphie, Rinoa, and Quistis of Final Fantasy VIII
    " FF VIII girls "
    Artwork by Felicia Sant

Comments: I actually made it one by one. But then I combined them together, and I think it looks rather cool (the light effect looks good), but unfortunately Quistis doesn't macth to be in there >_<
Kou note: The thumbnail is obviously chopped. =P

    Quistis of Final Fantasy VIII
    " ..Watching Him.. "
    Artwork by QuEEnIe

Comments: This was actually a practice drawing of I drew on lined paper, so when I decided I wanted to color it, I had to take the lines out in Photoshop. I wrote the poem a few days before I drew this, and that's what inspired me to draw the pic to match.

    Tritoch of Final Fantasy VI
    " Tritoch the Esper from FF6 "
    Artwork by Annie Felis

Comments: A couple of my friends and I were arguing about Tritoch: what is he exactly? A dragon? A gryphon? A feathered serpent? So I went and turned on my SNES to find out. I figured it out: Tritoch is a winged, feathered wyrm with four arms. I wound up drawing him to send to those friends of mine to show what he is. No background for this one though, I thought it stood fine on its own without one. Done in Prismacolor pencils (I finally got to use my blender pencil! yay!) and ink.

Yuffie Kisaragi of Final Fantasy VII
    " Yuffie "
    Artwork by tr2

Comments: This pic was finished around the time FF7 came out in the US, so it's actually a pretty old pic (I sucked at drawing feet back then:). The pic is just a pencil sketch I did one day that turned out pretty good, so I decided to go ahead and cg it in Photoshop. I never inked the pic, cause I knew that if I did... I'd mess it up.

Celes Chere of Final Fantasy VI
    " Seamless Beauty "
    Artwork by Karniz Archada

Comments: I drew this in about, ummm . . . thirty minutes . . and then about fifteen to watercolour, I wanted to draw a really nice picture of Celes, but it just turned out that this was an EXTRAVAGANT portrait of Celes!

    Edea of Final Fantasy VIII
    " Edea "
    Artwork by Ciara Covey

Comments: First time i looked at the FF8 character artworks, i vowed that i would never attempt to draw Edea, because her whole character design was extremely complex, expecially her massive headress dilio! But when i tried drawing her...it wasn't hard at all! Really guys its not that bad! ((ok ok...perhaps a TINY bit detailed...)) but try it! (^_^)
