Please don't die on the Table!

Welcome

Hello and Welcome! Now don't even start: I really, REALLY missed a week this time. So much for my record. Wahhh... Sheesh, it's been a really crazy week for me, I'm sniffley sneezy sore-throaty sick, and lots of my buddies at UC Berkeley as well are feeling the same, strange sort of zombie-esque, evil curse (you should read one of the e-mails I get most recently from a friend: it's entitled "I'd be better off in a pine box." Poor guy spends all his time 10 feet underground, literally (our computer labs are down there and he's an Engineering major, sooo...) Anyway, I've come crawling back to the sunlight because I have a bit of breather room before midterms hit. Bear with me if i suddenly crack and begin to babble about pine boxes, japanese skits and prozac. And I REALLY do apologize for letting you all hang for a week like that... -_-;;;
a Random Cookie from Lorelai

My pal and I had the most AWESOME japanese skit on Friday. It was about a pair of friends who went out for sushi one evening: I thought the sushi was very "oishii" (yummy) but he started to splutter and choke, and finally he sorta convulsed and fell across the dinner table. I got up and said very politely: "Taburu no ue ni shinanai de kudasai" ... "Please do not die on the table!" *BA BOOM CHING* Waaahahaha!! **dies**
A Cookie for your Thoughts

The Art Corner" Everyone who is interested in the development and growth of the RPGamer Fanart Gallery spinoff, "The Art Corner" will be happy to know that I've instated a messageboard on the site! Granted, it's the ONLY thing on the site that's functioning...but it's being put to good use as we speak! Go take a look! Now I'm sure you're all wondering if the Art Corner will start draining the time I spend here. My answer is both (1) no, and (2) it's irrelevant. First off TAC is not an art GALLERY...but this is. I consider RPGamer's Art Gallery and The Art Corner to be sorta "sisters" (maybe even &wuot;spinoff" like that new Angel series from Buffy The Vampire Slayer) and I intend on updating them in just the same way.
Ask Lore: Like always, I'm opening up my Lifestream e-mail to personal questions, whether it be related to RPGamer, my other jobs, my goals, nigel, my school, or my pet dog Bobby. Anything that's not inappropriate or too private. Go ahead, Ask Lore. ^_^ I usually answer by e-mail nowadays instead of posting my answer on this site, but you can still get to know me!
Art on IRC: come to esper.net and join #artcorner, the official channel for The Art Corner! I just registered it, so I welcome you to join. If you're a staffer (aka a critiquer) please be sure to drop by, I need to op you in the channel ^_^;;;
A Word on Today's Fanart: Dude....look at all that Final Fantasy VIII Fanart....maybe I should actually play it....Ohohoho!!! There's a Xenogears fanart!!! (Makes the Xenogears Artist "artist of the week") Heheh. Uh...that was a joke, you know that right? ^_^

Locke Cole of Final Fantasy VI
" Somewhere, Beyond the Sea"
Artwork by NM
Comments: This just started out as an idea about doing the unseen half of the bandanna/ bird scene from the world of ruin portion of the
game and turned into an attempt to show the feeling of loss that Locke must have had during his travels alone, thinking everyone
else dead. I have no idea whether I succeeded in the trying, but I'm fairly happy about the result (though, looking at it now, it
does have some problems, mainly the blurred feathers and the sand in the background). The pic itself was a combination of some
light ink/pencil work and a lot of CG. And yes, I do realize that the depiction looks nothing like Mr. Amano's version ^^; It's kind
of hard to explain, but, as much as I like Amano's work, this is how I've come to think of his (Locke's) design and so I really
couldn't have drawn him any other way. As far as his nose is concerned...well, call it too much of an affinity for Escaflowne ^^;

Cloud and Aeris from Final Fantasy VII
" The Moment "
Artwork by Nutz
Comments: Contrary to most people believe, I am not an all
Xenogears fan. Final Fantasy 7 is definitely one of my favorites too.
I really hated that moment when Aeris died and Cloud was such a heel
about her death. Here I tried reminiscing that moment Aeris fell into
Cloud's arms, using colored pencil and a few editing with Photoshop.
I promise I'll make a CG colored portrait of them soon!

Cloud and Tifa of Final Fantasy VII
" Love, Honor, Cherish "
Artwork by Meriko
Comments: Another request piece by a Tifa-obsessed fan! :)
This is my vision of Cloud and Tifa's wedding. I love their expressions;
and such a cute little kiss. *sniff* This is one of three I drew, but
I'll submit them separately, in case Lorelai thinks I'm getting to be
a post-pig. Is anyone sick of seeing my Tifa drawings? :) If not, go
to http://www.geocities.com/heartland/garden/2675/fanart.html. I have
all my fanart (FFVII and other) posted there for your perusal. I'll
try to upload my new pictures at least twice a month...maybe weekly.

Fei / Id of Xenogears
" Transformation "
Artwork by Zachary Knoles
Comments: Okay, the history behind how I was inspired to do
this picture is too complicated and warped that I really don't want
to go into it, so I'll just lie instead and say I was inspired from
the song, "Transformation" from the Jekyll & Hyde musical. (And if anyone
else out there has listened to it, you'll recognize the words as the
final lyrics before Jekyll transforms into Hyde.) I thought those lyrics
would be pretty appropriate for the situation. And they better be --
manipulating text in Photoshop has got to be one of the most painful
experiences I've ever had the honor of attempting.

Squall and Rinoa of Final Fantasy VIII
" Squall and Rinoa "
Artwork by ABU
Comments: Blah...that's all I can say about this piece...I
did it all of it in one day: pencil, ink, and photoshop..rush,rush,rush..wish
I didnt though... I could have worked more on Rinoa's face and definitely
put more detail into the feathers...oh and the background is just oh
so plain... ohhhh well..

Irvine Kinneas of Final Fantasy VIII
" Nature Boy "
Artwork by Jen M.
Comments: Irvine is still one of my fav. characters in FF8,
perhaps it's his personality and the fact thats it's so amusing. Somebody
who is so clueless, and tries too hard to impress people who will never
notice him...is hillarious. I decided to stick him in some casual clothing
(I'm going to do one for each of the characters) and on a rock in Yosemite
someplace.

Male Ninja of Final Fantasy Tactics
" Ninja "
Artwork by Zachary Knoles
Comments: I drew this picture off of a complete impulse --
from a crappy sketch in my sketchbook to a pen outline to coloring it
because I was BORED, to scanning it in and giving it a freaky background
in Photoshop. I'd like to point out right now that to actually be in
this pose would be REALLY hard. Notice how both of his arms are thrown
forward. No -- it doesn't work that way. That would completely throw
you off balance. Or, at the very least, trip you up or something. Oh
well -- he's a ninja, he'll cope.

Squall and Rinoa of Final Fantasy VIII
" Squall and Rinoa "
Artwork by Garrett Cooper
Comments: Idea for it: The back page of the FF8 booklet, plus
I moved Rinoa closer to Squall, to symbolize their love a little more,
and the rest of the drawing you can be the judge of.

Rufus of Final Fantasy VII
" Rufas at Junon "
Artwork by Keanof
Comments: I draw Rufas by photoshop and my brother use 3D Max
Studio to creat a background. This is our 1st pics that we work together.^_^
Rufas is so cute!! But I rarely see his pics around the internet. (snif...)
I don't understand why. I like his clothes ,hair and everything!

Sephiroth of Final Fantasy VII
" Sephiroth "
Artwork by Christine "Kestrel" Houser
Comments: Here's a pencil drawing of Sephiroth I did during
recover from the injury to my eye. It was essentially an excercise to
see how badly off my sight was in one eye (I was legally blind in one
eye for three weeks). But I liked this sketch, and did not change anything
from the original. The medium is plain pencil, unmodified, except by
finger smudging. ^_^

Squall Leonhart of Final Fantasy VIII
" Maybe I'm a Lion "
Artwork by Laura
Comments: The first full color drawing of Squall that I've
done for a while. The title comes from the name of a song in the game
that I thought fit the picture. The lion in this picture posed a unique
problem because I haven't had much experience at drawing animals but
I think it turned out pretty decent...

Squall and Rinoa of Final Fantasy VIII
" Midnight Rendezvous "
Artwork by Maggie Bradshaw
Comments: Here is my first real attempt at drawing anime characters
as more realistic people. It came out alright but Rinoa doesnt look
very pretty. I htink squall looks OK though. I like his hair! Anyway.
it was a difficult feat to accomplish and im kind of proud of myself.
I'm sure when i see it in a few weeks I'll hate it though. Is't that
alwasy the case though? Well, I did it in pencil, then scanned it and
colored it in photoshop 5! Please give me any feed back! good or bad!
Hope you enjoy!

Zell Dincht of Final Fantasy VIII
" Stormy "
Artwork by Jen M.
Comments: Zell also has one of those personalities that'll
either grow on you, or become something you want to avoid. It grew on
me, such a friendly guy and not afraid to say whats on his mind. Perhaps
I just know too many people like that. Once again it's the 'casual collection'
with him standing out in the middle of nowhere. I enjoy seeing the characters
out of their 'normal clothing' and in something different.

Tifa Lockhart of Final Fantasy VII
"Tifa in Autum"
Artwork by GlassShard
Comments: Being the ambitious little nut that I am, I'm going
to do a whole season series in watercolor with the ff7 characters. And
here's Tifa in autumn. The point of it all? I suck at watercolors and
I want to get better! So this is good practice. I actually like how
this piccie turned out, I think I got the quality of the light just
right though I'm still too heavy handed with the paint (I wish I'd made
her smiling too, she looks so serious). Vincent in Spring's gonna be
better ^_^
