Art and Lore - May 10th, 1999

Welcome to Art and Lore, RPGamer's Fan Artwork Gallery -- installment 5/9/99! MOTHER's DAY! (as if that applies to me...) I'm your host, W. Lorelai Wu, and you will notice that there's been a bit of a renovation in here, in format and otherwise. Hope you enjoy your stay!

  • Remember, to submit art to Lorelai, send the URL of the picture or attach it to the e-mail, to Lorelai. My e-mail address for fan artwork is fanart@rpgamer.com and for personal RPGamer contact, it's lorelai@rpgamer.com.

    Sorry about the horrid comments section this update. I had so much fun with the layout I forgot that so many people had sent in comments...and I had nowhere to put them. I'll make it nicer next time, I promise.

Fan Artwork a la Billy

Erm, yeah, ok so I have a penchant for Billy...but when he comprises of 50% of this week's fanart submissions I have to wonder...have I made you all think I'm some kind of Billy worshipper who will post your art, no matter it's quality, if it's a Billy picture? Erm. We need to talk. Well anyway, I was cautious about posting so many Billy pics, but I have to say that these are all EXCELLENT fan artworks.

Final Fantasy Flurry

Some interesting takes on some Final Fantasy characters we've all come to know and love! I really like the dissolve-into-feathers portrait of Aeris that Blademoor gives us. It seems fitting for a character of such grace and purity. Also extraodinarily well done are Sephiroth and Terra / Tina Branford; accuracy and emotional value are 100% in "Moonlight Sephiroth" and Tina gives us a new impression of herself in pinstripes!

Comments from the Artists

  • Kelly Gammons says: (regarding Tina in pinstripes) A lot of the elements in final fantasy 6 suggest that it's set in a late 1800's / early 1900's time period. So I decided to go with this theme and put the lovely Tina in a boyish pinstripe outfit ^_^. In the game, Tina is very serious and quiet. However this picture shows a very different side of her. Cute, ne?

  • Eric says: (regarding Gunslingers: Billy and Aya) Well, after reading the Inspirational Notes, I thought I'd do try a cross-over piece. Somehow the idea crossed my mind to do a theme with gunslingers (Billy and Aya) I could probably name this pic "The Longcoat Loners" seeing how both of them have longcoats in the pic... heh. There are a few mistakes I should fix tho....

  • Sydney Kyle says: (regarding Angels: Billy and Emeralda) : Making this pic was mostly a trial-and-error process, which partly explains the file's immense size (believe me, the original was *way* bigger!). It's of the two coolest characters in Xenogears--Emeralda Kasim and Billy Lee Black. ^_^ I originally made it for a fanfic, but it turned out an okay-looking piece on its own. It's the first CG I made with Photoshop, so it's a little amateurish, I think... ^^;;

  • Blademoor says: (regarding Touched by the Wind) Aeris is very much a graceful and almost angelic charatcer... yet her life is as fleeting as the wind itself. She seem to have enjoyed life to its fullest as well. Perhaps this piece will capture these aspects of her well. ^_^

  • Tana says: (regarding Moonlight Sephiroth) It's Sephiroth. What else need be said? I have never actually play FF7, but I have to admit that Sephiroth is the coolest character yet. (Well, I'm sure Billy from Xenogears must be pretty cool, but I haven't played that one yet. *grin*) I wasn't sure what kind of background to give him, then I decided to try a moon, but I didn't have a compass (nor did I feel like hand-drawing a circle) so I grabbed a can of miller paint and traced it's outline onto my paper copy, and loved it. The glow I was goofing around, and once I finished it, Sephy said: "Keep the Glow." So I did. ;P
