Art and Lore - April 26th, 1999

Hi ho.

I would have updated the main page for Art and Lore today (ya know, the one with all the topics and columns and pretty stuff) but it's two in the morning, I have class tomorrow, I'm dead tired, and I'm sick...but I think this update will cheer you (and me) up, despite it being late ;_;

Thank you to all those who e-mailed me at Lifestream@hotmail.com. I got far too many e-mails to reply to all of you, but suffice it to say the dilemma has been solved and I feel much better about it, thank you very much.

The dilemma in a nutshell: I've had a hard time updating on RPGamer recently, because of physical and psychological forces beyond my control. (uh, yeah... ^_^) I, Lorelai, who was once known never to miss an update, has now missed two...that made me think twice about whether or not I still deserved to be your fanart curator. But thanks to everyone who (unwittingly) told me I was doing the best job they've seen in a long time....I feel refreshed, renewed, full of RPG spirit again. Thanks all. This update is dedicated to all of you who care. ^_^

I've Committed So Many Sins...
by Pedro Coelho
medium: pencil

Comments: Again, it's a drawing of Krelian. This time, he's standing in the Nisan Cathedral, praying (though I've never seen him do so, I assume he IS religious, just from the way he talks about God) for Sophia, who left to sacrifice herself in the war with Solaris. I know that's not exactly how the Nisan cross looks like, but my only visual reference was the narrative sequence in Disc 2, where the cross spins as Fei talks. But it's close enough. Another hard thing was finding a picture to use as reference for the gothic stained glass window in the background. So I used a regular window instead of a 'rose' window like the one seen in the game.

Sleeping Beauties in the Woods
by Kaitlin Kublius
medium: construction paper, black ink

Comments: Love. This isn't a depiction of romance. It is one of friends. Locke and Terra. Terra, mainly--she is the soul of this picture because it was my intent to show her frailty in situations that she doesn't know how to handle. Whatever that situation may be, Locke is there for her. I don't want anyone to misconstrue this drawing as one of me wishing those two would have gotten together. I think everyone understands the nature of their relationship, and I feel that is how it should remain.

Sleeping Beauties in the Woods
by Landale Yuurei
medium: watercolors and CG backround

Comments: Sleeping in the Sleeping Forest. Doesn«t that sound so cozy? I think that Aeris look so innocent there. Well the whole pic looks a lil dreamy like and when you think of it, the only time both of them went there TOGETHER was in an dream before....(sob) I got proud for real about the coloring of this pic! Of course, that«s only mine opinion, does it Count? But then again, when you look at a profesional fanartists watercolor artwork....One realises that I«m still a rookie ^^

Blue Monday
by Amanda aka Kameshell
medium: pencil

Comments: And after getting home and finding out that none of my sites needed updates, I sat down to draw. Hehe. I started doing 'link' since he was my favorite, but for some werid reason the new cd I was listening to made me think of drawing 'squall', so i slowly transform link into squall. Hehe. Okay onto the title, it's 'blue monday' after the song I was listening too. And the gesture that I pose that i placed squall into reflects the song's lyics. Hehe. I don't think I have to tell you who squall is. And what game he is going to be from, too. Also about the look, I forgot the scar, so I thought Squall could be the pre-scar squall. And I guess that is all.

Lorelai's comments:

I got an e-mail this week that stated quality, though very improved over the months, has not been enough to make up for the lack in quantity. The e-mail also said, "Surely it can't be to hard to post a few more (fan artworks) each time?"

Ah, my friend, it IS that much more work. I try hard to please everyone but I think in the end, time is the factor that stops me from updating every day. Never fear though, on some days we'll have huge updates like this, when I empty out the Maybe box.

Anyway, the artists who sent in comments got their comments posted; the artists who didn't...well, didn't. ^_^ Fabulous artwork all around, of course. There still seems to be a Xenogears trend going on...Believe me, I'm no longer on my Xenogears day...but other than that, the people of the week seem to be Locke Cole from Final Fantasy VI, Elly from Xenogears, and Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy VIII...what a treat!

Twenty works of art this update folks...TWENTY! ^_^ (Lorelai promptly drops dead from sheer exhaustion)
