Lorelai's RPGamer Fan Artwork Gallery
The Calm before the Storm
  Artist of the Week
Ryuuzaki

E-mail | Webpage

Ryuuzaki has a near-perfect artistic record of submissions versus postings here at RPGamer...but, being the master artist that she is, that's not news. Her webpage is creative, neat, and organized: from the chinese counter to the impressive range of lovely artwork displays, it's a sight worth seeing. (But Ryuu dear, why is your link back to RPGamer so small?? ^_^ congratulations on a great job, and keep it up Ryuuzaki!)

 Artist of the Week
Welcome

Well! I sure had a rough-around-the-edges week. But gripes are no way to start out a welcome, so let's skip that for now...Welcome to Lorelai's Friday the 19th of 1999 update! (Anyone counting the days till 2000?) You'll notice today that there are far less artworks up. No, I'm not short on submissions, and no, I'm not getting lazy...instead, I have a big surprise for all you wonderful fans, as a thank you for your awesome patronage of this site. That's coming up next...

From The Heart

The wonderful, talented, awesome, Master-of-Perl Josh Kelley and humble little me present to you: Archives by Artist! This archive is very beta, however; expect something way cooler to hit the RPGamer vicinity as soon as next week. Meanwhile, enjoy this awesome archive! Note: It's lacking the newest fanart additions of this month. Also, on another note: I'm finally completely caught up with archiving fanart! You will now be able to find ALL fanart in their respective game galleries (just not in the Archive by Artist...yet) it took me darn close to a whole day to do it all...so, please appreciate it!

Extra Notes

Remember how I mentioned an archive clean-up? I think it's definitely necessary. Moments after my wednesday update proposing/finalizing such a clean-up, a very disgruntled Clio Saga e-mailed me personally and asked me to take her posted artwork down from the art archives. She's tired of being confused as a fan-artist when she's not. Folks, I don't want to be on the hit list of the talented artist who created and wrote storylines for half the characters in Xenogears...so, please beware what you submit! ^_^ Only your own fanart, no one else's!!!

Exclamation of the Day

Hear me speak...RPGamer's Fan Artwork Section, under the eye and hand of Lorelai, will be going through some big, big changes this following week. All for the better, never you fret. That's the reason for this small update...but hang on for a few more days and I'll show you everything I've got planned! One last note: The picture frame is MINE. As in, I own it; it is a cherished birthday present, please do not use the graphic for your own purposes. They are for RPGamer fanart only.

Fan Artwork for February 19th, 1999

Locke Cole and Rachel of Final Fantasy VI
Death and Resurrection
in Prismacolor Pencils

Art by Mo Sherman

The sheer emotional value and tension in this fan artwork made it hard to resist. As Locke holds the limp, pale body of Rachel, his face contorted with pain and devastation, the blindingly ironic image of the Phoenix blazes to life in the background. With the help of the rich, bright sheen chracteristic of Prismacolor pencils, Mo Sherman manages to bring life and death into juxtaposition in this emotionally charged piece.

Nina and Mina Wyndia of Breath of Fire II
Descending from the Heavens
in ink, watercolor, and Photoshop

Art by Ryuuzaki

Sadly, I have not played enough Breath of Fire II (working on III presently) to know the history of the Wyndia sisters. However, Ryuuzaki's thorough and stunningly detailed work (as well as her skill with layering and transparencies) allows the viewer to enjoy the beautiful richness of the piece without extensive Breath of Fire knowledge. Displayed here is only one of the eight words that Ryuuzaki has bestowed upon RPGamer; from this artwork alone one can almost feel the powerful tranquility in Ryuu's works that easily won her an Artist award this week.

Rydia of Mist in Final Fantasy IV
Rydia Concentrates
in pencil and watercolor

Art by Rydia X

A flattering portrait of the Last Caller of Mist Village. Expressionism abounds in this non-computerized image; Rydia's face is the epitomy of concentration, and between her hands burns a flame as bright and true as her devotion to her magic. Her skirts are lightly translucent and gracefully flowing; her figure, daintily perched upon a rock, lithe and graceful; many thanks to Rydia X, who brings these traits together to produce one fine work of art.

Tifa Lockhart and Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy VII
Chocolate Valentine
in unknown digital medium

Art by Amanda Zhang

How does Tifa manage to keep such a perfectly curved figure if she always licks the chocolate off the egg-beater? I guess it's because it's only a video game. Though a depiction of cuteness, Tifa Lockhart has an air of beauty and respectfulness. Her hair is especially well rendered; her golden highlights are lovely to gaze at (and Cloud sure does gaze) yet do not be carried away solely by the Final Fantasy scene; there is a little Pikachu near the bottom of the picture who is dying for your attention as well!
