Welcome

Like I said, I'm starting bi-weekly updates. I've decided to bring you an unspecified number of fanart, Artist of the Week, and Critique Corner to you on Wednesdays, and the same routine of stuff on Fridays. Hope it's ok with everyone! And also, Notice that in the Artist of the Week column, what you read is the artist's own acceptance speech for the award, not my comments ^_^
From The Heart

Surprisingly, there were no objections to my archive sweep proposal. None that flamed me till I was a cinder, at least. I received exactly one (1) protest, and we still reached a compromise (for those of you who want to know, check out the lualicious Cecil fanart in the Final Fantasy IV (2 US) Fan Artwork Gallery. Such is a prime example of artwork that will escape my wrath! Lorelai will not clean out artwork unless it absolutely misses every single expectation in her long list.
Extra Notes

On a sudden whim a few days ago, Lorelai decided to take up Webmaster e-mail duty for RPGamer. Which means she's even busier than before...so...I'm sorry if things lose a little of their promptness around here (though I hope that won't happen; it hasn't yet, has it?) And also, I'd like to thank all of you who have specially written me to tell me how much you like this Fanart Page ever since I took over. It really makes my day great, people...thank you so much! I love you all too! and just for the great feedback, COMING YOUR WAY SOON is an ARCHIVE BY ARTIST! Thanks to the Perl genius of one Josh Kelley, you will soon be able to browse the archives by locating your favorite artist, and consequently all of his/her fan artwork ever submitted!!!
Question of the Day

How many of you like the idea of bi-weekly updates on Wednesday and Saturday? Would you like to move it to some other day(s)? E-mail me.
W. Lorelai...
Is this invisible text thing a trend, or what? e-mail me if you read this and win a sack of monkeys from Thor!

Artist: Andrew
Subject: Fei, from Xenogears
Medium: pencils
Comment: Andrew: You commented on Fei's back, and how it didn't look like a "back." My answer to this, and 99% of all "it doesn't look like a ____" is simple: shading. There is no conceivable way something won't look like something if you shade it right. Also, you were worried about wrong proportions; when you draw anime, proportions don't exist. Worry about them when you're doing realist art, not now =) Otherwise, Fei's facial expression is captured very nicely, and his clothes are simple yet adequate. Good job Andrew!

Artist: Ciab
Subject: Margie, from Xenogears
Medium: Prismacolor pencils
Comment: Dear Cat-in-a-Bucket, your Margie is very well done. You mentioned a lot of whiteout was used; I can't even see it! Funny, when I use Prismacolor they only exacerbate white-out. You asked about using color pencils: you just happened to pick Prismacolors, didn't you? ^_^ They are soft lead; which means they are waxier than most. Their finishing result look rather like oil paints, and hence they are primarily used for blending, which means layers upon layers is the technique! I did my bart and margie fanpic with prismacolor, in case you want to view the art of someone who has used prismacolors all her life...

Artist: Irwin Kwan
Subject: Rydia, from Final Fantasy IV (2)
Medium: pencils
Comment: Irwin: first, let me congratulate you on taking on such a hard pose, and at the same time, trying it on a person whom you have no physical reference for. To help you illustrate feminine faces, let me point these facts out: women have fuller lips, thinner faces, smoother jawlines, and overall, just more delicate. You actually don't have too much trouble handling Rydia's womanliness; it's the neck and her general anatomy you have to work on. Also, her neck may be too thick for a woman. Try slimming it down. And, for desperate stereotypical measures, use long eyelashes, hourglass bodies, and flowy long hair. Good luck!
