Monsters Multiplied!
Welcome back dear readers to another update of Fan Art! I am now stuck in Baldur's Gate because I encountered some weird bug that multiplies enemies at a very scary pace. Anyway, nothing interesting to write about once again this week, so let's get started with the art! Long-time reader, first-time submitter, Misty Rydia starts her RPGamer Fan Art career with a drawing portraying the Mist Dragon from Final Fantasy IV. The artist chose to interpret the summoned beast as if it was a baby, thus its cute appearance. I don't know why, but I like white characters with thick black lines over semi-tone backgrounds. The strokes here are well balanced, with thick and subtle lines each playing their role. I'd like to point out a detail in the background. At first sight the foggy effect looks nice, but upon closer inspection, a clear pattern can be recognized in the texture. This tends to happen with excessive use of a digital brush. A little variation in there would enhance the effect, I'm sure of it. I'm expecting more art from you in the future! Sandy is a returning artist, along with her Final Fantasy XIII series. This week you can see her two latest pieces, the first of which features three characters on a bright, pink background. It looks like they are sleeping, but their positioning expresses the unison and bond they have between each other, and if I understood everything properly, the white light behind them represents just that. Or am I reading too deeply into this? Next is Sazh Katzroy, that weird character with the baby chocobo. What I like in Sandy's pictures is the quanlity of the detail, mixed with the subtlety it is incorporated into the drawing via. How is this achieved? By using pale, faint and thin lines. The contrast here is pretty good, but I feel like some shadows could have given a bit more volume to the character. Thank you for your submissions! We are already done with this week's update! In the comics, please enjoy some comic relief as Kefka makes his appearance for the first time outside of a flashback. Thank you everyone for reading, and please send in suggestions if you have any, as well as critisms, comments and other general praise. But most importantly, send in submissions! A little reminder: anyone can draw! Of course it takes practice, but please, don't be turned off from fear of not being good enough. Please have a pleasant weekend, and see you all next week for another Fan Art Friday!
