The Artists Return
Good afternoon dear readers! Today we have a full update, complete with five submissions and three pages of comics. I have received a few submissions this past week, but if I don't get more, next week's column won't be as interesting! I haven't played much this week, so I won't talk about it. Featured this week is an amazing piece by Randel Wiley, a returning artist from a few months ago. I really like this drawing, because it mimics Disney's style perfectly, and even references a Disney character, Ariel. I can almost see the drawing animate itself. The background could have been paler, but a very good submission overall. Please don't miss it! Aurian's latest dragon piece portrays Belial from Odin Sphere. I like the style and the medium used, and they always look pretty good. The one problem here would be with light contrasts. This may be caused by the scanning procedure, but still, this is part of the submission, isn't it? The next piece completes Andromeda's series of pictures I received a few weeks ago. The drawing and treatment are nice, but this piece shines with its contrasts. The darker parts add some depth, while the cold and red colors reach your eye. The special effects add a nice touch to the scene. TomR returns with a new submission, featuring a funny-looking character. I haven't played Mass-Effect, but I suppose it does have blue characters. The light and shadows are great and give volume to the character, but for the sake of the overall picture, the light could have been brighter at some places. Another returning artist, Maeva, sent me a Crisis Core piece this week, featuring Shinra's 1st Class SOLDIER elite. This submission would make a great poster or DVD cover. There are several things I appreciate in this picture, such as the greenish tint and reflections here and there. I think this is pretty bold, or at least unusual. Next, the spiral in the background looks neat, but the fact it comes back in the front makes it even more dynamic and it becomes an element in the composition instead of a mere background. This is it for the regular update. This week in the comics Edgar presents himself, and Orinocou illustrates one of the little scenes I loved in the game. Watch out for big nasty words on the last page! Thank you for your readership and see you next week! Also, a message to the artists reading: send in MORE art! I don't have any submissions to post for next week, so please go crazy! Also remember we do accept drawings, photographs of sculptures, of costumes and also wallpapers and other themes submissions. Thank you for your effort and constant quality.
