Same Old

Welcome back to the regular old Fan Art, dear readers! Of course, everything that was posted last week was totally fake. I'm sorry for the fans of the new Final Fantasy VI Comic; it will never come back. I would like to thank everyone who made that special edition possible: Michael Baker, artist and critic; Tom Goldman, artist; and Nyx, critic. It was fun, but now it is time for some serious criticism of good art. And if you thought the overrated Moogle from last week was unbeatable, trust me, we have better stuff today.

Our first Avalon Code fan art sees the return of Jeneko, who hasn't posted for a long time. Judgment features the unnamed main character in its male iteration. This is a very well-polished piece with subtle textures but pretty good colors, although the character's brown sash gets lost in the brown of the background. The floating pages and crooked point of view add a lot of dynamism to the whole picture. I hope we get more from this artist in following weeks.

This is our first staff-submitted work in a long time. This is also JCServant's first submission. Basically a portrait, this drawing has some nice colors. The bright red contrasts very well with the pure black of the hair. If I'd complain about one thing, it would be that her left eye looks weird, but the rest of the face looks quite nice.

You might remember Andromeda's drawings from a few weeks back. Well, this is yet another one, this time from Romancing Saga 3. I love the bright green background here. It is very pictural, contrasting with the linear character exposed over it. You can find a decent amount of detail in this picture, namely on the character's accessories or clothing designs.

Aurian loves drawing summoned beasts and monsters, that's for sure. This week, she presents her interpretation of Atma from Final Fantasy VI. I like the bold inclusion of the monster's breath, as it creates some depth. The two moons are quite bright, and thus I would have liked to have some darker bits here and there to have some contrast, because as it is, the picture looks a bit too bright overall for a night scene.

So another week has come and gone for Fan Art. You might have noticed the column has not been regular for a few updates; I hope this will change soon, but my internet problems make updating quite hard at times. This week in Comics Corner, you get to see the inside of Edgar's castle, which looks rather good. I love Edgar's pose in the fifth panel of the second page. Thank you for reading, and please, please, send in some art. I received but two submissions in the last 20 days or so! I'll be waiting for your art!
