Failed Attempt

Welcome dear readers! Let me tell you this week was pretty painful. I've been sick all week long, and although it seems to be calming down, I'm still not fully healed. Anyhow, I managed to finish collecting all the pins in The World Ends With You, so now I've basically done everything the game had to offer. I am about to depart for Thamasa in Final Fantasy VI and that's about it. Let's have a look at this week's art, now, if you don't mind.

Starting us up this week is Red, presenting his latest piece called Every Link EVER. I'm not sure, but I think there's one missing. I haven't seen Link from the CD-i game. Oh, wait, maybe he was left behind for a reason. Ok now, this one is pretty epic. You'll have to look at it for yourself, and please do, because this is one large piece. Or rather, tall. Anyway, pretty creative stuff here, lots of scenes to look at, and a lot is going on in all the different panels. Have fun!

Boum is on a roll, with her latest male portrait featuring Edge from Final Fantasy IV. But I am sure you have recognized him without my help. Once again, she uses the trick with blurred swords in front of the character. This seems to work, but I think the fingers look a bit small in comparison with the rest. They seem too slender and effiminate, too. I like how you can get the basic shape of the face under the mask with nothing but the shadows.

Jackson Ferrell makes a comeback with a new piece, titled Cut Clean, illustrating a precise scene from Final Fantasy IX. I like the colors and the outfit, and the shadow seems plausible, but the anatomy looks weird. I find it works within the piece, though, so it's not such a big deal. I wish Mr. Ferrell had played with the hair a bit more, though, as if it had been blown away with the wind.

Next, Sentou Ryoku presents this Chrono Trigger piece portraying Lucca and Robo. We've seen a lot of Chrono Trigger fan art on the web that was nothing but an interpretation of the original art. I'm happy that the artist tried something different here, especially with Robo having a brand new pose. This picture seems very friendly, but I fear the two characters get mixed because of the similar colors. However, the difference in shading clearly seperates them, with the shadows in Lucca's clothes being more sublte than the highlights on Robo's metal pieces.

Lastly, here's a very different take on Garnet. She doesn't seem as innocent as we've known her in the game. Her outfit is similar to the original, but there's something in her looks that's just... different. I like the coloring, and even though the pose might be weird for the character, it is well executed. Also, good job with the shadows!

This is it for this week, dear readers. Thank you for sending so many submissions. We'll have an update next week too thanks to them. Don't forget to read the comic, and see, with Locke, what's left of the soldiers after the battle with the moogles. Have a fun week, and see you next Friday!
