You might have noticed I haven't been posting the column on Frday for a few weeks. The reason is simple: I now work five days a week. In the past few days, I have progressed a lot in Chrono Trigger. I'm actually enjoying the bonus content before I head for the final confrontation. I also played a bit of Earthbound, in which I am still not very far. Under the spotlight this week, Boum presents Hero's Snack Time, her latest Fan Art piece. After much adventuring, a hero needs some rest and food, and Link found a huge snack to share with his hat. Ok, I haven't played this game so I'll pass judgement on that. Regardless, this picture is quite beautiful. Boum says the apple looks weird. Well, I think it looks good, although maybe a bit flat, somehow. Next up is a submission that was posted a while ago. The artist did some changes and resubmitted it. Of course, I prefer original submissions, but after looking at the original one, I think enough work was done to warrant a resubmit. You can see by yourself by comparing the original piece with the new one. Unstoppable Red strikes again this week with two submissions. The first one is inspired by the Castlevania series and stars a witch. Isn't the cat hypnotizing? Nice color choices, with the yellow hair echoing the bright moon. Then, find Link as he is exploring a dungeon in his latest adventure, accompanied by a fairy. I like how Red plays with the shadows in this one, although it could have been even darker in the back to give a greater feeling of depth. Last picture this week is by newcomer Callisto and features Polka from Eternal Sonata. The artist's goal was to show the character's happiness. Unfortunately, the facial expression, to me, shows a lot more melancholy than happiness. The background, character position, bird and colors do show happiness. The bright flowers and their pictoral treatment evoke a peaceful heart and the flow of white light enhances that feeling. Thank you for your interest in Fan Art, and please have a look at the comics and wallpaper. This week, Terra flees through the mines. BleuVII's final wallpaper is a variation of one of his previous submission. I would like to express my gratitude to the generous artists for their submissions, and I hope to receive some more in the days to come!
