COLUMNTITLE
Welcome back to Fan Art! Sorry for the little delay, I've been quite busy recently. It doesn't matter since the column is up, though. I've been playing Chrono Trigger on the DS for the past week. I've played this a lot in the past, but it's been a long time, so I'm really enjoying it. Watch out for spoilers... Talking about Chrono Trigger, Ishi sent a piece of Crono and Marle floating above the Millennial Fair. I don't know what it is exactly, but something about the character design in this drawing is very appealing and gives a lot of personality to the protagonists. The handling of light and shadow is tasteful, and the use of cool-colored shadows gives some depth to the whole picture. My only complaint is that they do not seem to float. Why? Because the baloons' strings are not tense. Lighting plays a big role in a picture, but so does weight. Aurian sends more summoned beasts our way with a few new submissions. This week, have a look at Bahamut, apparently preparing some kind of attack. Very nice effect around the paws, by the way. I like the bright colors and the details on the body, but the scales, I think, have a tendency to flatten the character. Talk about bright colors! Earthbound is full of them, and Red's submission is no exception. Ness and cie. are having fun waiting for the bus. For some reason, Jeff is always unhappy in Red's pictures. Why is that? At least, Ness' happy face saves the day and makes you smile. Is it some Final Fantasy X-2 fan art? No it's not! Actually, it's Yuna as seen in Kingdom Hearts 2. The drawing has a strong structure, but the line work seems a bit hesitant. There are some nice details in the picture, but the thickness of the medium harms them. Finally, a new drawing from TomR featuring Aeris from final Fantasy VII. The first thing you'll notice is that there are no outlines in this work. At least, no visible ones. I find this piece very interesting for that reason, because it makes it very simple as far as details go, but it still is easy to read and understand. This illustration is very strong, and the background is wonderful. This is it for this week, folks! Don't miss the comics and themes. Terra follows Arvis' advice by escaping the Empire's soldiers through the mines. BleuVII offers a new The World Ends With You wallpaper. Enjoy!
