The Drought Begins

Hello all, and welcome to the latest Fan Art update! This week was a busy week as I attended Montreal's International Game Summit and did some other very interesting stuff. I haven't played much this week, once again. I wonder what is happening, exactly... Anyway, let us look at some pictures now.

This week the featured art is Ace's Persona 3 piece, titled Persona 3. Although the name is hardly original, the piece looks wonderful. The characters are portrayed nicely in dynamic poses and are very expressive. The colors are vibrant and along with the use of light and shadow, help create the illusion the characters are solid, not merely drawings on a sheet of paper. The green outlining is interesting and helps your eye navigate in the composition. You might have noticed that the nearer the character, the thicker and brighter the green outline is.

It is indeed not Christmas yet. Those counting the days know that it is still 33 days before Christmas. What I like most in this picture is the feeling of intimacy between the protagonists. They seem to be lit only by the tree and their eyes shine with passion. The conifer itself is bright and colorful and defines a triangular composition. The gift should have been another color, though, because the viewer might confuse it with the tree. Red has another picture in store for you this week. Ness, Paula, and Jeff are out for an exciting night in the streets of Fourside! I am sure gamers familiar with Earthbound will notice some references in that picture. The rule of thirds has been well respected thanks to the tall buildings.

You might remember Siegfried VII's Cloud picture from a few updates ago. Well he returns this week with a new one, this time featuring Squall from Final Fantasy VIII. The hero is portrayed holding his gunblade, probably attacking something. It might be you. Watch out. The costume is almost identical to the original character's, but you might notice the big difference in the artist's interpretation: the face. Just like his other piece, Siegfried aimed for a more detailed face. I think he looks older, as if it was a drawing of somebody cosplaying as Squall. Good job with the background, it fits very well.

This is all for today! Terra is officially presented as a character this week as she wakes up in Arvis' house. The rest won't be long, though, because next week some more action is on the way. You might have noticed I decided to drop the Fan Art suggestion. You might also notice there are only four submissions this week. This is bad. It means I am running low on fan art. What will happen when the folder dries up? You tell me, readers. Or rather, send in some more fan art, ok? Since I want to end on a positive note, I have now implemented a new section in Fan Art. Themes are now going to be featured in the column in the same manner the regular submissions and comics are. Have a pleasant week!
