Nintendo has begun to reveal the specifications of its next-generation console which has been officially named the Revolution. While the Big N is still being tight-lipped on most of the specs, it has released some tidbits that will have any old-school Nintendo fanboy camping out at his local game store weeks before the release date.

"Backwards compatibility" takes on new meaning with the Revolution. As expected, the new system will play Gamecube disks, but Nintendo is throwing in the ability to download classic NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64 titles straight to the Revolution. With this revelation, Nintendo has virtually guaranteed that its system will have the biggest launch "line-up" of any console in history.

What remains to be seem is what the "next-generation" part of the Revolution will bring to those looking for something new. RPGamer will update these specifications as soon as more information is available.
