Having had mixed feelings about the Frontier games, I wasn't sure what to expect from the next SaGa generation. While I disliked intently SaGa Frontier, I truly enjoyed SaGa Frontier 2, and was hoping Unlimited SaGa would be more like the latter. It wasn't really, but I did enjoy it.
I was thrust into the exploration part of the game. You sit on the world map and have two or three options in which direction you'd like to explore next. Color of the question marks or area name indicate the danger (likelihood of being attacked or finding a trap). Once on an area, if an event has taken place (such as finding an enemy, a trap, or a treasure chest), then you may decide whether to continue moving forward, or face what is in front of you. In the case of traps, they must be resolved immediately.
In battle itself and outside (traps), a spinning ring is used to determine what happens. During combat, this ring may indicate where you need to stop to gain a more powerful hit; on traps, this roulette indicates whether you take damage (HP and/or LP), or get away. It is likely this spinning ring is used elswhere, but as the Square Enix location was in high demand, I left before I could get much deeper. This is definitely not a game for the casual RPGamer, but those looking for a difficult but fun game should definitely be looking into this title.
