Hooray for videos of chibi-style characters with interesting worlds and
interesting battle systems! While I'll admit that Symphonia doesn't bring
anything new to the table, in a world of RPGs that are rapidly splitting into
sub-genres, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. The graphics were similar to
the Gamecube's Harvest moon, with a hero clad in red armor who fights with two
swords. The video showed him traveling through a variety of terrains, including
deserts, tundras, and an interesting looking town high atop a mountain.
While the textboxes were in Japanese, it was apparent that the hero was off on
some sort of important quest, and the end of the video had a rather cute girl
appear before the hero and his party, after being summoned by a winged priest.
The battle system looks very interesting, with enemies appearing on the maps
so you can choose to fight or flee, and the system itself appeared to be a free
style brawl between your party, which appears to allow up to four members, and
the monsters. In the video, the enemies and heroes both charged at each other,
in a style similar to Star Ocean 2, and went at it, with much sword waving and
spell casting. From what I saw of Symphonia I liked, so here's hoping it turns
out good.
