No mainstream Final Fantasy title would be complete without rabid hordes of fanboys gathering around the gameplay booths at E3. Final Fantasy X-2 wasn't as in demand as previous FF installments, but it was certainly an improvement to the pathetic showing at last year's E3 for Final Fantasy XI. The question is, what more does FFX-2 really have to offer?
I hate to be nasty, but it wasn't much. The battle system is real time, and some of the characters (Yuna, in particular) have fun special abilities to use. Who'd ever think our favorite Summoner could go "Trigger Happy"? Once again, voice-acting is used for a majority of the game's dialogue, but it doesn't seem like there's a paritcularly famous English cast supporting the title, like Kingdom Hearts.
Perhaps there are more goodies hidden within the game, as I was just scrolling through one of the dungeons and a ridiculously easy mini-boss fight. Sure, this game will sell rabidly, but maybe it will convince Square-Enix that each particular FF world should not be expanded. It's not as much of a quantum leap in graphics, voice-acting, and the like as Final Fantasy X was. Oh...Yuna strikes a pose during battle so much it's not even funny.
