Interplay's Dark Alliance II was on display and had a decent playable demo running for it, considering that it was just announced. The game begins exaclty as the original with the player choosing from several character classes. However, this time there are five selectable classes and they're all different from the originals.
For the demo, players could choose from 3 of the 5 characters, including a Barbarian, Necromancer, and Monk, all true to their D&D / Forgotten Realms counterparts. The Necromancer has some interesting magic, such as the summon creature spell. The Barbarian is well-equiped for hack-n-slash and can even use two weapons. The Monk is a pretty good fighter, but was the least interesting of the playable classes thus far.
The graphics engine seems almost untouched from the original Dark Alliance. Though the graphics for that game were fairly good for their time, they're certainly beginning to look outdated. The gameplay is also relatively untouched, with few enhancements at all. It would have worked better as an expansion pack, in my opinion. The company claims that it'll take a good 20-25 hours to beat on your first play-through. Look for this game on Xbox and PS2 later this year.
