Suprisingly enough, Arx Fatalis was a fun play. Granted, the interface was really chunky and took time to get used to... and the graphics were nothing special... and the framerate was pitiful... and I couldn't hear any sound from my station... but it was still fun! I can't believe I'm saying this, too. I suppose since I enjoyed dungeon romps like Ultima:Underworld and massive RPGs like Morrowind, I was able to enjoy Arx Fatalis more than one might.
The game seemed to me like your average underground RPG, which isn't a bad thing. You could run around and pick up items, equip then, and toss them... all the while struggling with the overly complex controls in an attempt to horde all the goodies that the depths of the earth just so happened to contain. I equipped my leg bone and was ready to whallop anything that attack me... except nothing attacked me. Shortly after, I found a short sword, a shild, and some body armor! Whoohoo! Too bad my lower half(including my crotch region) was pretty bare. I didn't get too far, really. I pulled a couple of levers, rescued a peasant or something, ran into a big nasty Goblin Lord, fought to the death!... and died. I swear I stabbed 'im good, though!
Even if it wasn't anything new... it was fun. It really was. I guess playing Morrowind for about two hundred collective hours really improved my opinion of games like these. I'm interested to see if this game shapes up to something more than the E3 demo.
