by Harry Negron I am writing this in response to all the responses to the 'True Meaning of FFVII's Finale' by Thomas Mastrangelo. First of, I agree with Great Gospel's response. Humans did live on, even 500 years later. Great Gospel said there was no proof to this, but there is! Right after you see Red XIII look down at Midgar, the Final Fantasy VII logo appears and you hear children happily laughing in the background. Squaresoft purposely included this to justify that humans indeed survive and the world went on happily. Oh. By the way, you know how most people think the Promised Land was in the northern area? Wrong! Midgar IS the Promised Land. That's why there's such a high abundance of Mako and that's why Shinra built Midgar in that area. This is proven during the ending when lifestream appears. You see, I agree with Cheryl Lachowicz's response about Meteor not being evil. Meteor wasn't an evil magic and Holy wasn't necessarily a pure magic. They acted as one weapon to protect the planet. You see, both Meteor and Holy were created by the Cetra, the Ancients. Why would these peaceful people create a destructive magic such as Meteor? They purposely created the both of them to protect the planet together. Meteor alone could not destroy Midgar, so Holy came to aid it. "Holy is having the opposite affect!" This is what Red XIII exclaimed when he saw Holy beneath Meteor. When Holy appeared, it helped Meteor destroy Midgar because Midgar was blocking the entrance to the planet, the Promised Land. "Although she should've returned by now, something stopped her and now she's stuck..." When Cloud said this I realized that the people that die and flow into the Lifestream cannot return to the Planet, including Aeris. Lifestream wondered around underground, which was the cause of the Mideel disaster, because it had nowhere else to go. Once Holy and Meteor began to destroy Midgar together, Lifestream realizes that the entrance to the Planet is now open and heads towards Midgar. Then the final thing you see is Aeris smiling. She is happy because she has finally reach the Promised Land. I know the rest of the people in the world were safe, but I am not sure what happened to the people of Midgar. Perhaps they were sacrificed for a greater good, the preservation of the Planet. Maybe Lifestream helped out the people when it appeared. I also believe that Sephiroth was ignorant. He believed that Meteor was a destructive power that he could use to destroy the planet. But he was wrong. It was there to help. Unless, he knew all along. Maybe all that time he was trying to re-open the way into the Promised Land. He was a studious person so perhaps he read about it somewhere. He could have known all along that only the combined strength of Meteor and Holy could destroy Midgar, and release the seal of the Promised Land. That is probably why he killed Aeris. She was the final Cetra, the only one that could summon Holy, and Bugenhagen once said a person must die in order to completely summon Holy. So Sephiroth may have killed her in order to call forth Holy and later on he summoned Meteor. It's kind of a relief knowing that Sephiroth didn't kill Aeris in cold blood, but to protect the planet. Now I just don't get why Cloud and the othershad to go and kill him. I know Cloud an Tifa had his reasons for defeating Sephiroth, but everyone else was there just for the hell of it. I guess Cloud and the gang were ignorant of this Meteor not being evil matter, if it is true. And I don't get the whole Jenova thing and why it was with Sephiroth if Jenova is a threat to the planet. This whole paragraph about Sephiroth I am unsure of, but the rest of the editorial I am adamant on.
