by Geronimo WARNING: FF7 and Suikoden Spoilers In a recent editorial, TheRooster proclaimed that he was "sick and tired of whining about spoilers" on "every gaming website". He has some good points, but he's not completely right. I agree, it won't destroy a game's plot if you know the name of the hero's grandmother's goldfish. On the other hand, I've never heard of anyone complaining because they knew a character's name. That's not really a spoiler. It's just a detail. As for spoiler warnings, what harm can they do? If website maintainers want to warn people about possible spoilers, they can. If it doesn't apply to you, just ignore it and scroll down. Yes, some miniature miscellaneous spoilers help sell games, although these days it seems like the selling point is based heavily upon a quick flash of fabulous movie scene graphics. By looking at a commercial for FF8 or LoD you can't really see where any plot is leaking out. But, I have to disagree here. TheRooster claimed that EVERY bit of info about a game is a spoiler. I was always under the impression that spoilers referred to major plot twists, or character deaths, etc. By the way, my final point is that TheRooster is very WRONG in saying that hearing about a death of a character before seeing it won't change a thing. Aeris's death was all over the internet, people were talking about it everywhere. The first thing I ever heard about FF7 was that a girl named Aeris dies. Now, even now I still haven't played FF7, and I haven't seen her die, but if I did...I'm positive I would sit through it with little emotion or none. Knowing about deaths makes people jaded. I knew, before I played Suikoden, that Gremio was going to die. I poked fun at it a bit. When he did die, it was sad, but expected. However, I had NO IDEA about Odessa's death, and therefore I was shocked, and it was much more sad for me. Aeris, pah. Poor Odessa.... So, if you don't like spoiler warnings, or people's complaints, ignore them....and stop your whining. Send all replies, flames, etc to:
