If God Didn't Exist, Why Do We Have to Create Him?
   by John Boske
"I wonder when an ascendance to godhood became a prerequisite for villainy."

Why Dot-Hack Should've Failed: Polymorphic Content
   by Philip Bloom
"A while back, Bandai had this clever idea. They'd create a single intellectual property which they'd develop across multiple forms of media at the same time, spreading a single cohesive set of stories over a broad set of possible commercial areas. They labeled this '.hack' a story covering the adventures of several people over a spanning massively multiplayer online virtual reality role playing game."

Sound...
   by Peter Duckhouse
"The brilliance of this music made me consider whether a scene could have the same emotional impact if it originated from an external source, like a band or solo artist, and was not specially created for the game - is the music’s originality a factor in it’s potency? Also, if a song had entered the public consciousness separately to the game, would this effect a player’s reaction if it was included in a game?"

...and Vision
   by Peter Duckhouse
"However, whilst going through my games collection I started to ruminate on the evolution of graphics, and realised that rather than just creating an interface for you to control the protagonists, they can actually add to events. Your perception of the world can be coloured by the graphics. Before the 32-bit era, the RPG realm had to be fleshed out more through content and background more than anything else. I was amazed how the monotonous world of Lufia 2 was able to make ever want to save it – no wonder I grew tired of the same towns, over and over again (and more towns than any other RPG of it’s ilk)."

Leave The RPG's Alone!
   by Stuart Hoggan
"That's it, I simply cannot bite my tongue anymore - leave the roots of the RPG genre alone, you torturers!"

Today, we have Japan to thank for our lovely title. His stirring rendition of my plans to take over Russia and turn it into an Editorials writing camp was so nice I couldn't help but take it as our title. Good stuff. We're also holding another Editorials Hour at 9 pm EST this Wednesday. Last time it was quite successful, and I hope many of you will show up and join in. It can be quite fun if you give it a try. Hopefully, it will also move us closer to that goal of updating twice a week!

About that though? Our backlog? Gone. Sorry folks, I didn't get enough editorials this week to keep it up. But we still have a full set of fun new editorials for you to ponder and stab at! John brings to the table a beautiful consideration of the trend to rob villians of their humanity for a few special effects. You get to prod at my meandering thoughts on the nature of Polymorphic Content and why I think it is the Devil! Peter Duckhouse gives us not one but two good editorials covering the way he viewed the importance of sound and visuals in games. Finally, wrapping up, Stuart gives another impassioned discussion on the attacks made against epic plots in RPGs.

Anyhow, we have no backlog now. So, unless I get some nice editorials soon, we might have a really small update next week with a lot of yammering from me. So send in some stuff, or better yet, show up for Editorials Hour! Anyhow, folks, keep your eyes on the section this month. We've had a great start here and it has been a pleasure meeting a lot of you. Are we going to sort of stall here? Nope. December is looking to be even better. I want to get the author's archive back into existence so folks will be able to look up what interesting writers have written in the past. And I also have some other ideas planned that I can't quite make public yet, but should be exciting if they all get off. Lets keep moving along and making this section the best on the site.

Minor note: I send a confirmation message for all Editorials I receive immediately upon receiving and saving them. I do read them and respond usually within a day as well, but if you send in an Editorial and don't receive an acknowledgement from me, assume it hasn't gotten here and send it again. Worst that'll happen is you'll send me it twice and I'll be all excited for the second it takes to recognize it.
