Feel the Pain ('Cause Genre Bending is Serious Business) Sam "Nyx" Marchello

Editorial Excerpt:

"How many of us remember the game Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ring? How many of us remember being so excited at the prospect of playing a fighting game with our favourite Final Fantasy VII characters? I remember being a kid playing this game and thinking there was nothing cooler than playing as Tifa Lockhart and beating the crap out of Cloud Strife. To me, Ehrgeiz was a game that could have spawned fantastic possibilities."

The Spirits Within Stew Shearer

Editorial Excerpt:

"In the context of the history of Square, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was probably one of the worst things that ever happened to them. It cost hundreds of millions to make, and then managed to take only a fraction of its expenses. One could very well imagine the horrified expressions of the folks who put it together at the time as they watched the potential future of their otherwise successful company splash its way down the porcelain pee-hole."

From the Editor's Desk

I caved. FE: Radiant Dawn is resting, unfinished in my Wii, and you know what? I'm not sorry! As great a game as it is, my time with Valkyria Chronicles has been well worth the guilt I feel for once again perpetuating my backlog. In short, if you maintain the sort of taste for RPGs that likely officiates repeated visits to RPGamer, then you need to play this game. It is easily the freshest, most entertaining SPRG I've played in years. If you don't have it yet, go buy it. If you don't have a PS3, buy one for this game. It's truly great!

The staff, myself included, has pulled through for yet another week of opinionated goodness. Nyx returns this week to offer us up a nice editorial on games that cross the genre lines. It's a nice piece that I found interesting in the light of forthcoming games like Dissidia. I on the other offer up a short discussion of FInal Fantasy: The Spirits Within. You know, it's that movie that Square really wishes they could forget they ever made? Yeah, I didn't hate it, but you can read my editorial if you want to learn more about what I feel about the subject. Well that's all for this week folks! Enjoy, and write in if you get the inkling to do so!
