Who's got the Hooch?
by TitoPaul
"Games imitate life, they imitate art, they imitate intergalactic soap operas,
movies, books, television or just bizarre otherworldly dream-induced time
anomalies and all with a heady dose of sex and violence thrown in. But where’s
the booze? Yes, a bar or inn is frequently a meeting place for adventurers and
yes, the latest gossip might be purchased with a round or two. Yet it is never
excessive, or thrown in as a fanservice the way blood and skin seem to be."

Non Linearity in Story RPGs - why don't we see more of it?
by Rob Janney
"An often heard complaint about console RPGs, Final Fantasy in particular, is their linearity. Let us consider the costs of making an effective non-linear plot driven RPG. There are two major ways to introduce non linearity: branching and the removal of temporal constraints in quests."

Editor's Comments
Welcome all to this week's editorials column. We return this week with one editorial by frequent-submitter TitoPaul about the use of adult-themed material in games, such as alcohol. We also have another classic editorial this week, this time about non-linearity in stories by Rob Janney. Both are well worth a read.
We'll be introducing a posting cap of 4 editorials per week to help keep each week's content equally divided. So, if your article isn't posted one week, it may very well make it into the next week's column. We may raise this cap if our submission rate increases. Happy reading and writing, and be sure to check back as we reveal new surprises for the section.
