The Things I Write and Write For
by John Boske
"The reasons are different for everybody, that I know. Some do it to explore a universe, one ready-made and yet ripe for coloring outside the lines, while others focus more on the characters to whom they grew attached over a period of time. Still others tie up loose ends, or create entirely new ones. These are all well and good, and more than one applies to me and mine, but that doesn't explain the drive to actually write something so obviously frivolous and indulgent. "
Suffering for Greatness
by John Boske
"How does one quantify annoyance, or frustration? Delight or enjoyment? Can a number be put to a willingness to sit through repetitive combat, lazy plotwork or nonsenscial dialogue? Is there a specific, tangible point where one says, "This just isn't worth it?"
Give It a Breathalyzer, It Will Pass: Alcoholism in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
by Drew Robarge
"The pub in the game doesn't even sell alcohol to me or even make a reference to it. Sure, there are some sprites of people sitting a table drinking from a mug."
RPGamer Editorial History: Volume III: January to March 1998
by Drew Robarge
"One of the things that I wanted to do on this site to get the most out of it is try to read all of the editorials and fan fictions that has been submitted to the site since the site has been on the internet."
Playing Second Fiddle
by Dustin Windes
"The secondary person is the most important person of any RPG. Without them, the main hero is a solitary entity who has a bunch of followers walking behind him everywhere he travels."

Editor's Comments
You guys rock. You really do. My email swells with nifty editorials for posting. We're growing by leaps and bounds here and it's good to see some new bright faces. This week, John Boske, better known as Karlinn from the forums, gives his thoughts on video game fanfiction as well as touching upon what we go through for a bit of entertainment in games. Drew Robarge makes his first appearance on the column, starting a bit of a historical analysis of what was written in the past as well as arguing against the ESRB ratings. Finally, Dustin Windes takes a moment to give tribute to the Luigis in all of us. Good stuff folks and keep sending them in and remember to add [Editorials] to the subject so I can get them as fast as possible. We're also still looking for our final addition to the editorials writing crew. Think you got what it takes? Send me an e-mail.
I've also have two special announcements. This week we're planning on kicking of Editorials Hour in #edscorner@irc.esper.net. This Wednesday from 9:00-10:30 PM EST, we'll be holding a group writing session there where we'll be around to help out with editorials, give comments, help with brainstorming and generally just meet some of you guys. Drop on by and join us. Also, for those concerned with some of the writing quality of previous Editorials, we're working on our end to get that improved. Keep an eye on it.
The second, possibly not as exciting to everyone but still great, John "Karlinn" Boske joins the editorials team as my assistant editor. He'll be helping me to bridge the gap between requiring everyone to be a stellar writer and providing the most pleasant reading experience for you readers. In other words, his job is to help me make you guys look great.
Just as a final note, after finishing this, I checked my email. Two new editorials for next week. You guys totally rock. Keep 'em coming.
