Tactical Failure Stew Shearer

Editorial Excerpt:

"It's a real shame the way that Final Fantasy Tactics has influenced the SPRG sub genre. It isn't that Tactics is a poor game. As a matter of fact, it is easily one of the best I've played in recent years. That being said, the way that so many games have emulated it has helped very much to stagnate the genre."

Spoiled Rotten Michael "Macstorm" Cunningham

Editorial Excerpt:"I remember having days, even months, to play through Final Fantasy IV multiple times without having to rush through it for the next game or worry about my increasing backlog. People really got to know about games, instead of playing one for two or three hours and jumping to the next, shiny game to appear."

From the Editor's Desk

Obama won; who didn't see that coming? I'll tell you what I didn't see coming: an episode of South Park about the election a day after the election was over. They must have thrown that together mighty quick, I tell you what. Not much going on game-wise for me. I just beat Mercenaries 2. I've been hearing it getting a lot of flak from reviewers and gamers alike, but I actually found it to be a blast. A flawed blast albeit, but still great fun. I've been rereading George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones as of late. The way I figure it, by the time I reread the entire series, the April release date of the next book will have arrived. That is unless, of course, Mr. Martin decides to push it back further. He just better not die before finishing the series, or so help me God, I will be angry!

We have two staff editorials this week: one from myself and a second from Macstorm. I discuss the effect that Final Fantasy Tactics has had on SRPGs, while Macstorm talks a little about how spoiled we gamers are nowadays and how nice things were way back when. It's good stuff, and I recommend giving them both a whirl and commenting on our lovely forums. Now if one of them really inspires you, feel free to write in. We can always use the material! Cheers everyone!
